MyUS.com Issues with GST & Weight Questions

Hello guys,

I am relatively new to using MYUS. It has been great using individual items, but now with consolidation and the new GST rules i am having some problems and would like your thoughts.

1) MyUS charges GST on the Shipping/Servicing+Insurance+TheItem. However they seem to be charging GST on the Prediscount shipping rates. Eg most of us should be getting 30% off the shipping rates. am shipping something that has $50 shipping rate, discounted to $35. However they are charging $5 GST on this. I see this like buying a product on sale in the shop, and the shop charging you the GST on the full value of the product. This doesnt seem right…

2) I have a purchased a packaged before July 1st, and consolidating the shipment with items purchased after July 1st. I assumed because the sale of the product was prior to July 1st, I shouldnt have to pay GST on the pre-July 1st item. MYUS automatically calculates the all orders with GST and saying its based on when its shipped not when its purchased. Any thoughts

3) With the consolidated packages a few of the items are really light, but they seem to be charging a standard 0.9lbs. if they weighed all 3 of these items together they will combined weigh less than 0.9lb, but they are stating they weight the individual items with packaging and this becomes compounded. Anyone have experience consolidating orders like this, and know if they actually do re-weigh the total consolidated package before they ship? (I notice it just says estimate at this point)

Any help with above will be appreciated!!

AFAIK they should not be charging your GST on freight, only the value of the goods you purchased…from businesses not operating in Australia…but whatever. GST should be calculated before freight. What did MYUS say when you asked them about it?

    2) It should be charged based on the date of purchase on the invoice.

    3) No idea. Maybe they just have a minimum freight charge?

GST will be charged on the total landed cost in Australia, i.e. the cost of goods, plus shipping, plus insurance. This has always been the case on shipments over $1,000 so they are now applying the same costing to all imports.
Can't comment about how the calculate the GST on the shipping cost, viz. pre or post discount, but I suggest it should be on the actual (post discount) cost. Maybe it is a system issue MyUS have, but then again they are know to screw every last cent out of customers!
Insofar as the weight issue then as each item hits your inbox you will get an email with the weight of the order. When they consolidate they will remove items from boxes etc and consolidate into one box, it is then you will be able to accurately see the weight of the total shipment.

    • MyUS don't have a system issue, they have no clue what the GST is and how it works. They're just using it as an excuse to charge 10% and pocket it.

Beware of MYUS, they are deceitfully charging 10% for "GST" purposes, but have absolutely no idea how it works and why. So they're literally using it as an excuse to make 10% profit from the value of the item.

Here's my recent chat with them: https://pastebin.com/5UyXUs4P

They even contradict themselves a couple of times, and it just proves they are not being honest.

Try this though, it may allow you deceive them in return:
    1. Find a random ABN that's GST registered via https://abr.business.gov.au/Help/EntityTypeDescription?Id=12
    2. In MyUS My Account Settings > Shipping Preferences > enter number (without spaces) in Business Registration Number
    3. Tick "I am Exempt of Tax"
    4. RIP GST!

  • If you seriously believe they would charge the 10% GST and not pass it onto the Australian Government then you are well wrong - they would have far too much too lose.
Insofar as entering a false ABN then you have too much to lose. I believe (from discussions with one of our overseas suppliers) that MyUS is required to submit regular reports to the government detailing the name, address and ABN number of Australian buyers that have claimed GST exemption on the basis they will be submitting BAS statements here in Australia, and pay the GST at this end.
