Nature's Own Odourless Fish Oil 200 caps @ ChemistWarehouse $12.99

61

Was at chemist warehouse today getting vitamins and they had these odourless fish oils for 12.99. I personally think these fish oils are better than the other odourless ones because they actually are odourless.

Hopefully someone find this useful because I know me and my family go through these like they're nothing.

This is not a very good price or brand of Fish Oil, typically $10 for 200 Fish Oil, Herbs of Gold brand Salmon oil, which is a quality manufacturer at many discount vitamin stores, like Mr Vitamins at Chatswood or Wholesome Health at Broadway, both in Sydney. Bioglan 200 also sells for $10 at some chemists.

Also, Ethical Nutrients is a high strength liquid supplement which is a very attractive price if you do the sums, and this is highly recommended by Natrapaths for the brand name and the bang for buck.

    • Agreed, 0.065c/capsule is not the cheapest!

      • 6.5c

    • Is this bioglan odourless? If not I would say that 10$/200caps is a rip. You can get 12.99/400 caps at chemist warehouse. The not completely odourless ones.

  • I'm always stock-up when these Bioglan on special for my Mom.

  • Melrose Omega Fish Oil liquid is also a very attractive price 500mL for $24. Best to buy this at Health shops when on 21% special price like first Tuesday of the month.

    • I've tried that. It is quite smelly though.

What do you think of this?

Surm, I only use the brands that Naturopaths recommend, so probably pay a higher dollar figure for fish oil.

Naturopaths are quite strict on brand, as the better brands provide the better results. The difference between the Ethical Nutrients vs others can vary significantly, and i find significant improvement in cognitive skills with the EN. If you consider the EPA/DHA of EN it sells at a good price. So good a price that it is a bargain and bought by health professionals themselves. I also understand that there is not much profit in EN, so it may not always be recommended by professionals trying to make a higher profit on other brands.

naturopaths lol. are they related to homeopathics / chiropractors / accupuncturist / psychic / astrologist by chance? in other words, quacks.

          Healthy Care Fish Oil 1000mg Capsules 400 $12.99 (3.25c/capsule)
          Active Ingredients Per Capsule:
Fish Oil (Natural) 1g (1000mg) containing omega-3 marine Triglycerides 300mg as:
          Eicosapentaenoic Acid (EPA) 180mg
          Docosahexaenoic Acid (DHA) 120mg

Ethical Nutrients Hi Strength Fish Oil Capsules 120 $39.99 (33.33c/capsule)
          Active Ingredients Per Capsule:
          Concentrated Omega-3 triglycerides - fish 1.02g
          Equiv Eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) 300mg
          Equiv Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) 200mg
(Similar to Ethical Nutrients Hi Strength Liquid Fish Oil 170ml $38.99)

So unless "oils ain't oils" I could have ten of the cheaper capsules for each EN capsule! Two would exceed the active ingredients (EPA/DHA) of each EN capsule. Each to their own.

        • How do you know health care professionals buy EN? Are you sure your naturopath isnt just trying to rip you off and make the big sale? Because my pharmacist and doctor has never recommend one brand over another until i mention personal preference of smelly or no.

At the end of the day you're still getting the same amount of omega-3, EPA and DHA. Only difference is your paying 10x the amount for nasty stanky product which is only 2 times stronger. As daydream message you could easily just take 2 capsules and oooh snap problem solved, you've saved 25c per capsule of "EN".

I've looked through a lot of the fish oil, EN doesn't state anywhere that it uses premium quality fish in comparison to others. I've heard of brands like swisse doing that though but not EN. But all to their own. I still don't think your neg is quite valid when you made your comparisons since they:
          1) were not odourless
          2) your EN example is 10x the cost

    • That isnt odourless though which is why I thought the product I mentioned was cheap. Otherwise for the smelly regular ones, you can easily find them for cheaper.

          lol

but why bother? smokers smell like ashtrays. why can't healthy wannabes smell like fish??

i like to stand next to smokers and let off a loud smelly fart :)

        • The odour lingers for a bit. It doesn't just go away as soon as you swallow it. So its not really that practical to be wearing that for an hour or so, I'd rather save stares and looks from colleagues and strangers and pay the bit extra haha.

  • Are these mercury tested?

  • i currently have a bottle of blackmores odourless ones and they are fine, no reflux or anything like that. when i stick my nose in the bottle they smell nice too :)

  • I really don't see what the big fuss with 'odourless' fish oil is about. I've just started taking them and, well, it's a capsule. You down it with water and be done with it. No one said you had to chew on it. $12/200 is not the best deal. Like many have said, you could get double the capsules for the same price, maybe a bit more.

    • i think some people with stomach problems (?) tend to burp and get a fishy reflux. you are just lucky not to experience it, but for some people it is an issue.

      • remember to drink with warm water/tea and you are fine

  • I personally consume 2 capsules/day of:
    [Blackmores Omega Daily odourless 90 Capsules - Chemist warehouse](http://www.chemistwarehouse.com.au/product.asp?id=55284&pnam… "Title") $22.39 (24.8c/capsule)
    Active Ingredients Per Capsule:
    Concentrated omega 3 triglycerides - fish 1.034g (1034mg)
Containing omega-3 marine Triglycerides 600mg as:
    Eicosapentaenoic Acid (EPA) 351.7mg
    Docosahexaenoic Acid (DHA) 248.3mg

    or
[Blackmores Omega Daily odourless 90 Capsules - pharmacydirect](http://www.chemistwarehouse.com.au/product.asp?id=55284&pnam… "Title") $18.39 (20.4c/capsule) - You get free postage if you spend over $120, which is equivalent to 7 bottles

I stocked up like crazy when they had them for sale at my local Terry Whites for Buy 2 get 1 free. With an expiry date of 2013, I am stocked for awhile. I still have 10 bottles left..lol Dad's a bit of a health nut and told me about the special. I think I only paid $12-15/bottle back then. They are awesome. No odour whatsoever, easy to consume. This brand of Blackmores has 600mg of omega-3 marine Triglycerides/capsule as opposed to 500mg/capsule for EN. Cheaper too. From what I was told, not all oils are the same and you always go for the levels of omega-3 marine Triglycerides. I have never heard of this brand but it's cheap for 3c+/capsule but I don't fancy swallowing more capsules than I have to for the same amount of omega-3 marine Triglycerides >.< My parents actually consume 6 capsules/day. Imagine having to double that lol. Ouch!

    • That seems a bit extreme. I remember a Choice article saying it's a common recommendation to have a daily average of 500mg EPA+DHA Omega3, either from 2-3 oily fish meals a week or supplements.
Only 1 of your tablets a day is plenty, without eating any Omega3 rich fish or food during the week.

BTW. It seems a standard tablet of 300mg EPA+DHA daily combined with oily fish once a week will get you close to the recommendation, or just one of the strong 1500mg oil tablets that has 500mg EPA+DHA daily.

  • emptypocket, you mention your pharmasist and doctor. A naturapath/nutritionist is a different professional. If you ask at a health shop, these professionals use EN and practitioner brands for other suppliments. I am not getting ripped off as i am a close friend.

How do you know what you are buying is rated at what is claimed or that there are toxins/fillers? The $13 price for 200 is not a good price when 400 can be purchased easily for $20.

Also my consumption of fish oil is 5 to 10 ml or 6 capsules but YMMV

    • naturopaths are not professionals. they are pseudo-scientists and quacks. pharmacists/doctors are professionals. nutritionists are different from naturopaths.

      • Yeah that's the thing with naturopaths. Since they aren't proper health care professionals I don't trust that their advice is totally safe compared to Dr or pharmacist. Like with my mum she takes a fair few meds so she has to be careful what she takes. I know my pharmacist has told me she shouldn't take certain things because it could be harmful while on other meds. Correct me if I'm wrong but this is not something I expect a naturopath to know.

But I think I'm going a bit off topic. So back to the post lol. I guess if you compare the fish oil I posted to non-odourless versions, they are pricey.

    • I doubt that there are any fillers in the fish oil caps in natures own or healthy care. That's not something I can confirm, but the only part of the capsule I could see as not fish oil is the capsule shell itself. Plus what toxins? If there were any toxins that were harmful when consuming such large quantities of fish oil capsules, I'm sure pharmacies would not be allowed to sell it. I mean they work with peoples lives.

  • epharmacy have 2 x 400 Blackmores for $37.99 (plus delivery). That = $9.50 per 200.

I used to have a girlfriend in the medical field and it was unbelievable all the kickbacks, perks and freebies given by manufacturers to recommend/use their brand. Starting with the innocuous pens and post it notes, through coffee machines to swanky hotel rooms and overseas trips. An incredibly corrupt business. I would not take any recommendation by a medical person for a particular brand as legitimate and uninfluenced by personal motive.

    • Reminds me of the movie - Love and Other Drugs ;D

  • for what it's worth, coles have 350 pk cenvois fish oil 1000mg capsules $16.00 on sale this week (save 25%).

  • Seems like a pretty bog standard price to be honest.
