How to check if the phone is Australian Stock

Hello,

Planning to buy a brand new sealed Samsung Note 8 from one of Ebay sellers. He/She has 100% feedback. The listing says it is Australian stock.

I asked for the IMEI number and I checked it on www.amta.org.au and it is clean.

Is there a way to check if the handset is 100% Australian stock? Model number is SM-N950F. Does AMTA website checks (if it is clean or blocked) only for Australian stock or does it also check for overseas handsets?

Any help will be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Cheers

  • Could check with Samsung.

    • Thanks. I had a chat with Samsung Live Chat who confirmed that it is an Australian variant. And it was also bought outright and not part of any mobile network.

  • +1

Where is the seller based? Look on their profile. That’s usually a pretty clear indicator.

Best thing to do is to buy from mobi city or something though and not off eBay.

    • Seller based in Sydney and has 100% feedback, been a long time member of Ebay too.

  • What eBay Store? They can say it is Australian stock but is it an Australian unit.

    • It is not a store but an ebay seller. The message was definitely that it was definitely purchased here in Australia

  • Band 28?

    • Is there a way to find this out from a sealed handset

  • Maybe ask who the warranty is with and how long? Samsung AU stock has 2 years warranty, local and overseas warranty is 1 year. Just need to be careful, sometimes sellers say it is AU stock means the phone is sent from an AU warehouse, (ie. you do not need to wait for a month for it to arrive) and not that the phone is sourced locally.

    • Ok, I will ask about the warranty. I have double confirmed that it was purchased in Australia and not stocking overseas stock here.

  • You can ask for the PDA or CSC numbers, they'll tell you what firmware the device uses and you can match that with the firmware used in the Australian region, for unlocked samsung phones it's the XSA region.

    • Ok, thanks. I will understand these terms a bit more myself and look for more information

  • Samsung Aus Stock have the Australian Communication Authority (ACA) printed on the back.

    • On back of the handset or on top of the box? From the photo that was sent which shows the box shrink wrapped, there is nothing like ACA printed. Thanks

      • It's both on the back of the phone and back of the box. I'm not sure about the front of the box. Maybe look on eBay from a private seller to see if the ACA is printed on the front or not.

        • You mean the C-tick? If yes, I can definitely see that tick through the shrink wrap on the back of the box in the photos that was sent to me. So, safe to assume that it is Australian stock then.

        • @tendliya: Not having a C-tick is a strong indicator that it's not Australian stock. But the converse is not necessarily true, since not every handset that can be sold in Australia was intended to be sold in Australia. From the C-tick, at least you know that the product is labelled for sale in Australia. (And your subsequent chat with SAMSUNG confirms it was so intended.)

        • @twocsies: Thank you. Definitely has the C-tick. And Samsung also confirmed that IMEI is clean and is Australian Stock. Samsung rep also said that it is a handset that is not linked to any mobile network at all and the phone was bought outright by itself.

So, does this mean there is no way the seller can have this network blocked and scam it after few months? As it is shrink wrapped, the seller wouldn't be able to activate or register with Samsung, right?
