  • Wow feline natural is never on sale - better than Ziwipeaks for my cat!

  • Some really good deals compared to other shops. Some brands even have 15% cash back on top of the 30% off and cashrewards

  • Looks like Prime SPD and all fresh food is excluded from this deal

  • Any recommendations on dog food for a Jack Russel? Been buying Farmers Market from Coles up until now.

    • Are you looking for wet or dry food?

      • Dry food

        • +1

I have a GSD, so a larger dog. I don't think you can go wrong with either BlackHawk or Ivory Coat. Just ensure that you follow the changeover process. Both are Australian made.

        • +1

          @airupthere:
Blackhawk is not as good as it used to be. It was bought out last year and is now part of the MasterPet brand and is NZ owned. Food was reformulated after changing ownership. Not a bad food, just not as good as it was.

        • @avien: I changed over to Ivory Coat about 5 months back, thanks for the information. Really happy with Ivory coat at the moment

        • Been reading up on a heap of dry foods today as I just got a new pup and have seen good reviews on Applaws Natural Pet Food.
Apparently for all breeds and life stages or there's a specific puppy mix.
Going to give this a try after she's off the breeders kibble.
Lamb & Kangaroo or Chicken with Turkey seem to be the top picks.
          Also available at woolies.

Applaws is the best of the brands available in supermarkets

Only reason I don't feed my dog this, is the lack of variety available at any given time, in the supermarkets

        • @docians:
Sorry I should have said for supermarkets. Have read the only problem is stock/variety at certain stores.
I saw your comment below on ivory coat, hills & royal canin. How does this compare with those? Seems to come pretty close to ivory coat ingredients wise (lamb & Kangaroo version).

        • @HowDidIGetHere:

          is a good brand
          is readily available at supermarkets
Go for it :) Enjoy your pup :)

Lots of OzB love for Ivory Coat (the grain free variant specifically).

      • +4

easy to figure out why :)

Ivory Coat Lamb and Kangaroo 13kg for $77= $5.92 per kilo- aussie product
Hills Science Diet 12kg for $80.49= $6.70 per kilo (owned by colgate- Palmolive)
Royal Canin Adult Bulldog 12kg for $86= $7.16 per kilo (owned by Mars)

        Now compare main ingredients

Ivory coat: Lamb Meal, Kangaroo Meal, Potatoes, Peas, Dried Lamb, Dried Kangaroo, Pea Fiber, Tomato Pomace, Chicken Fat (preserved with Mixed Tocopherols), Ground Flaxseed, Salmon Oil, Carrots, Sweet Potatoes, Kale, Broccoli, Spinach, Parsley, Apples, Blueberries

Hills science diet: Chicken Meal, Pea Fiber, Whole Grain Sorghum, Whole Grain Wheat, Corn Gluten Meal, Cracked Pearled Barley, Whole Grain Corn, Powdered Cellulose, Chicken Liver Flavor, Dried Beet Pulp, Soybean Oil, Lactic Acid, Flaxseed, Potassium Chloride, Pork Fat

Royal Canin: Rice, dehydrated poultry protein, animal fats, vegetable protein isolate*, hydrolysed animal proteins, dehydrated pork protein, beet pulp, minerals, vegetable fibres, fish oil, soya oil, hydrolysed yeast (source of manno-oligosaccharides), hydrolysed crustaceans

Similar price points (actually Ivory coat a bit cheaper)
but a huge difference in ingredients

plus in the case of ivory coat, as per their website for every bag of dog or cat food we buy they provide a bag of stock feed for farmers doing it tough

        https://www.ivorycoat.com.au/why-ivory-coat/outback-giveback

I am not affiliated with any brand of petfood aussie or otherwise

    • assuming you are talking about dry food and not fresh meat :)

      http://www.petfoodreviews.com.au/dry-dog-food/best-dry-dog-f…

as a general rule the better foods tend to be produced independently and a bit more expensive
eg Ivory Coat, Meals for Mutts, Stay loyal, Canidae, Taste of the Wild, Black Hawk etc
the first three are aussie brands

You have multinational companies producing rubbish but expensive dog foods eg Hill's Science diet (non prescription), Royal Canin
Cheaper rubbish food includes Pedigree, Supercoat etc

always read the ingredient list to find out what the food contains
if the first ingredient is grain it is more likely to be rubbish
foods that contain corn (or hide behind the term maize) are generally rubbish

don't be swayed by rubbish claims eg Royal Canin uses the same formula in different shapes to state that this is good for Labradors, and this is good for Cavaliers etc

just my 2c :) (used the word rubbish a lot lol)

  • +1

Stocked up on Meals for Mutts, thanks.

  • Great bargain! Making switch to using alternative anything but petcircle…have a mate who use to work there, only reason why some stocks are cheaper than other pet stores online is that they sell it cheap when the food is close to expiration date. They also like giving away out of date/moulding dog food (exposed packaging but resealed themselves) to animal charities….

    • +1

mate were you talking about petcircle selling dodgy stuff or other online pet stores? (sorry it is unclear to me)

I usually shop around, and give my $ to the lowest price on the day

Petbarn, Mypetwarehouse, Petstock etc all have shop fronts as well; don't think Nettopet does
Having a shop front usually entails more expenses

I can't figure out why Petcircle has not been less expensive than everyone else over the past six months

  • Thanks OP…stocked up on cat food for another 6 months

  • Thanks op
Been struggling with good prices on wet food.

  • Following from the awesome feedback about dog food, can anyone give me some recommendations on cat food? Both wet and dry please.

    • +1

Ivory Coat do cat food also, so I'd assume it's a good choice based on their dog food.

    • +1

      http://www.petfoodreviews.com.au/dry-cat-food/best-dry-cat-f…

Should follow along similar lines along dog food.

Not a cat person, so no clue about wet food, but I believe they like fish n milk lol.

    • +1

Ziwipeak and Feline Natural (the cat range of K9 Natural) for wet, Wellness Core for dry.

  • Now extended, to midnight tonight, another 16.5 hours.
    Happy shopping :)

  • damn, ivory coat for cat are out of stock

    • honestly the next great offer is just around the corner
If you are running low net to pet usually has lower prices than petcircle, mypetwarehouse etc but that sometimes varies

check out the usual suspects for a good deal
