Is This Expensive, What Am I Missing Here?

I was just looking through the laptops on the centrecom (i know, don't get angry :P) website, just out of curiosity at their higher end laptops. Under HP i found this:

Is this thing ridiculously expensive?

my 4.5 year old laptop, that cost about 400 dollars less (4.5 years ago) has the same amount or ram,

my brother bought a laptop with an i7 processor (i7>i5 correct?) for 1000 less.

my girlfriend bought a laptop with a bigger harddrive for about 1500 less.

Am I missing something here, is there something super-duper about this laptop that makes it so expensive? to me it seems that this laptop should be worth somewhere between 800-1000 at most.

  • cheapest elsewhere is 1761.00 so yes expensive, some would say overpriced aswell

  • None of the reasons you give are particularly good arguments, but you're right, it is VERY expensive!
    14" screen size is unusual.
I wonder if it's trying to be a large Ultra-Portable?

  • even 1761 seems very very expensive for what you get. perhaps its a business laptop?

although lenovos are business laptops and they can be bought for quite cheap I think?

basically what I want to know is is, why would anyone buy this laptop, even for $1761, when you can purchase a laptop with i7, 500gb hdd, and 4 (maybe 6) gb of ram for 500 less.

    • Lenovo is a brand, they have business lines such as thinkpad , idea pad are their consumer lines

There is also much more to it than specs ie servicing if the computer dies and gets sent away what happens after that , also software and driver support. Thinkpads are the only line i know of that supports 3 different operating systems

Most people dont need any of the above if you are never going to change anything or dont have a problem, its when you do the perceived value comes into its own.

  • +1

Maybe it was intended for sale through David Jones or similar outlet.

HP EliteBooks are their top of the range business notebooks, which are comparable to Dell Latitude, Lenovo ThinkPad T-series, Toshiba Tecra, etc. They are expensive because they are generally well built, have lots of ports for legacy connections (my Dell still has analogue modem and RS232 port!) and docking station support, etc.

  • well i think i've just had my questions answered,

so basically it's a business laptop, with high durability, high build quality, and vast range of features,
