  • at $299 it's not the greatest deal is it? those $199 emachines seemed better (can't recall their specs).

    • Do you mean this one?
      http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/38741
The only recent eMachine I could find.

    • specs pretty much the same except emachine i got has:
      3 cell battery,
      160g HD
      No Bluetooth
But for under $200, i am pretty happy with mine.

        this one

        http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/37124

        my specs for my emachine($160)
        9 cell Battery —>$56
        160GB HDD
        2GB Ram—>$34
No Bluetooth—>Can get for $18, but i have not use for it

All up $250 for these specs

        also no card reader
No 802.11b/g/n(even though it says so on box)
        not 6 cell(default is 3 cell)
        not 250GB

so all in all this post is goo deal

At least should have wireless b/g.

I heard actually comes with n.

        • em350 has card reader and my em350 has wireless n (on the box, the OW specs are a typo)

but yes this aldi model is a good deal too considering a 250gb is around $50

        • oh and the em350 has a mono speaker lol

        • @ CVonV

haha yea i forgot the EM350 has a card reader(i forgot that, as i use my other laptop to card read{as em350 does not support MAgic Pro})
and yeah it is mono speaker which is annoying, and its also soft(compared to other laptops) as well, but hook it up to speakers and you're fine

    • the em350 deals are what i was referring to. the em350 might have lower specs. i don't know.

  • the specs for this is better imo.. but not too sure of the brand.. O_o

aldi's refund policy is great. if you are not happy with the product, take it back for a full refund within 90 days.

    poor resolution old processor overpriced
    -ve

    • +2

It's a current processor, and the resolution is standard for this size/type unit…. Please research before voting next time.

      • +6

        wrong!!
The current processor is dual core n550
latest single core is n455 and that is already 1 year old
Resolution is not standard either terrible for windows as it is 24 lines less than normal
virtually every other netbook is 1024*600
less than 600 lines makes many option boxes unusable as they are off the screen
maybe you should do some research
only 2 usb ports - no other has less than 3
0.3MP camera is substandard as well

I'm sure as well it win't have a chicklet style keyboard

          Interesting

You give a very simple explanation for your vote first time, you get caned by the community.

Then you get positive votes for your comment when you explain your position rationally and with good details.

          Does that tell you something.

And people wondered why we used to can negative votes without clear explanation. :-)

  • This doesnt seem like an amazing deal to me. Seems like pretty average specs for a pretty average price. I had a quick look at a comparable HP netbook (mini 110) and it was the same price and slightly better specs, not to mention a brand I've heard of. Not saying this is a bad buy but it ain't a bargain

  • sigh, first read it "Fusion" then realised it was "Fission"……

    • +3

is that an indication of quality it breaks down into many pieces hahaha

      • surely you know what Fusion is right?

        • +2

          it was a joke :P

    • You are not alone, I too read it as that. First thing I went looking for was HDMI port, then I realised it didn't say Fusion. :(

    • Lol, more like CONfusion!!

What a strange resolution. Never seen or heard of a netbook with a 576 vertical resolution.

600 is already pretty low, not sure what windows would look like with anything less than that.

    • +1

I am pretty sure 1024x576 is a true 16:9 screen (I am sure one of you will check), and used to be used quite a bit a few years back (not just in Chinese junk, Dell 10v and HP Mini 110 used to use it, perhaps not in Oz though…)

It is certainly a little more unusual these days though.

      • +1

yeah it's 16:9.. pretty fail imo.. with the screen as small as it is.. u need all the vertical reso u can get.. even if it's only 24 pixels more

given that.. the Asus netbooks that were on COTD are better

    • Its what happens when the 16:9 brigade wins. If 16:10 was still favoured then the res would be 1024x640 instead.

  • We purchased this netbook during the sale for our daughter for the $299 for her birthday in a few weeks so the item is still new. However when doing grocery shopping we noted that the netbooks are discounted to $249 at Aldi now so we returned ours to the store with the receipt and the salesperson gave us back the $50 difference no problems - we though it was a great buy at $299 - now even better!
