Carport Condensation

Hi guys, got an issue. Only started parking my car under the carport this year and notice in winter now on certain days i'm getting condensation happening and it's dripping onto my car (undoing the ages it take cleaning the car).
The underside of my carport is some sort of metal (not sure which). And it's also open air. Wondering what the cheapest/easiest way of stopping this is apart from just not parking under it.

Cheers

    Car Cover

  • Try stick some insulation panel underneath :

condensation under the carport? it sounds like the carport is getting heat from your house during the night.

  • Winter time you will get condensation on pretty much all metal surfaces. Underneath a carport is a bit of a pain and will be difficult to prevent without changing the roofline to have the drips run off away from the car.

Insulation panels might work, but if they have a smooth skin, it might be metal and still get condensation on it.

If your car is kept clean and polished it should take ages to give it a quick clean after a few drips get on it a few times a year.

  • Aren't you getting condensation on your car too?

  • I have this in my pergola, in Winter the roof will sometimes get heaps of condensation and drip everywhere.

It's because the roof is colder than the air and condensation will form on it.

Only way to fix it is to put a barrier to prevent it, like sarking.

Although it won't be easy to do or worth the trouble.

  • The carport is next to my house don't think it'd be getting heat from it. I don't get any condensation on my car not sure if it's because its ceramic coated? But on a really cold morning today the whole underside of the carport was dripping heaps.
I keep really good care of my car and the drops leave waterspots. I don't really want to get a cover as i use it daily. Not sure if i suspend a tarp over if the same thing would occur except on the tarp?

    • Tarp option sounds possible? I've never done this, but if I pretend I'm MacGyver, I would just need a tarp, a length of wood and some rope to hang a caret shaped "tarp tent" from the car port so the condensation drops onto it and rolls down the sides.

Or doesn't need to be caret shaped I suppose, as long as it's a taut at an angle?

      Only issues could be:
      Probably look ugly
      Wind could be an issue
Condensation could form on the tarp, but you would hope it rolls down the undersides too…
