I would not second guess using those to whisk eggs.
I bought a few from eBay. They're only a dollar each from China. And $5 from BigW(bigw.com.au). I like them but you do lose the sensitivity after a while (and it's not ideal for hair prone to frizz).
But I think regardless of whether the massage is deep or superficial, OP wants a hands-free massage.

I've heard of strokes happening from neck massages (due to damage to the carotid artery) so I suppose this should be okay?

I tried the Osim head massager.
Even though Osim is a top brand with top products, I felt the head massager was pretty useless.
Some days I have strong headaches and I thought this would be a good idea to try, but the massager is nothing more than air pressure:
