  • Do you get charged now or at release?

    • I ordered Crash Switch through them, charged me on day of release.

    • Amazon usually charges when the order is dispatched. I doubt it's different for preorders.

    • Charge on release. I preorder Let's Go Pikachu last month and have them charged yet.

They also don't ship until release day, which means an extra 3-6 days for postage.

Personally I don't see a point in pre-ordering this far out. As someone else suggested below - Big W will probably have it for $62 at launch for price matching. With the $10 coupon you're only saving $3…if they had the Amazon20 ($20) coupon again, it'd be a different story.

        • I agree. I'd want to be smashing ASAP and couldn't bear to withhold for an extra week.

Pretty sure Amazon Prime has release day delivery - has to be ordered two business days before release.

People here are getting games from Amazon before release date.

        • @KevinL:
Hmmm.. Last time with Mario tennis they posted it the day after it was released and I got it 5-6 days later. If it wasn't $20 off I wouldn't do it again.

        • Reason I pre-order so far out was due to the price. At the time of purchased, I used "AMAZON20" to get Pokemon Let's Go Pikachu with Pokeball Plus Bundle for $92.21, which I'm almost certain won't be close to that price on release.

        • @KevinL: they sure do. They also automatically match the big retailers launch prices. I've got a heap of pre orders with them

        • Sometimes they do, sometimes they don't. I've preordered two games from Amazon and they both arrived the day after they were shipped. YS released on a Friday but they shipped it on Monday and it arrived on Tuesday. Octopath was shipped the day before release date and arrived the next day.

        • I ordered from Amazon AU the other month…
Took them one week to despatch from the order date.
So I don’t trust that pre-order items will be shipped on the release date. I’d rather go into a store and be guaranteed a copy.

        • 2 day shipping for prime.

One of the big reasons for preordering early is the preorder guarantee. I've done plenty of pre-orders with Amazon of the years (mostly comics) and it works quite well.

Amazon changes prices regularly. It's entirely possible the price might drop further (but also it might not). If the price does drop, say $4, for a short amount of time (eg 1 day) then on release you pay $65.

As you're charged on dispatch, if someone else does a better deal you can always cancel the pre-order. So no harm done.

@KevinL: I ordered Captain Toad a week before release and on release day it still hadn’t shipped. It had expected arrival as 5 days later and I have prime.
          I won’t bother again.

Might wait until the actual release date. Big W has had new Switch releases at around $62.

if the price changes (amazon will most likely match any price changes) then you will pay the new price not the one you preordered with

    • exactly, this aint smart…

    • but with the 1000s of $10 discount codes, this will be $59 for many people.

      • Initial revision of the post did not mention the $10 Amazon credit. While it may be ~$3 cheaper, it still won't be posted until release date. I would happily pay a few dollars extra to play on the opening weekend.

    • The big W releases that come out at $62 are $80 RRP games. This is going to be a $90 RRP game as far as I'm aware. The same as Zelda.

    • +1, support the local guys!

Is there a deal on freezing yourself until December?

  • I'm waiting for the re-release of the official Super Smash Bros. Ultimate GameCube Controller and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Gamecube Controller Adapter. Just that December 7 is so far away. Wish they would release them earlier. Considering the Switch already supports these controllers since the v4.0.0 December 18th 2017 update.

    • You can buy Wii U or third party version now.

      • Where can you still buy new official Nintendo Gamecube adapters? Only seen unofficial third party ones which I don't want.

        • Only seen unofficial third party ones which I don't want.

I had both and they worked exactly the same. Only difference is the branding.

  • I reckon this will be standard price
