[PC] Steam - Desperados: Wanted Dead or Alive (96% Positive Most Recent Reviews as Now Fine on W10) - $0.99US (~ $1.34 AUD)

140

This is the all-time lowest price for this great game. While it is 17 years old it is still lots of fun and plays a lot like the Commandos series in a Western setting.
And the best thing: THQ Nordic has updated it recently (after 17 years!) so not it runs smoothly and without hitches on modern systems including Windows 10 - this is why the latest reviews are so positive. And given its age, it runs on virtually any PC.

Note: It can also be bought on GOG DRM-free for $1.59 AUD!

About the game:

"Desperados: Wanted Dead or Alive" is the first strategy game ever to combine a movie-based and story-driven atmosphere of an adventure game with the intellectual challenge of a real time tactic game.

In this western-style title, discover a game of strategy and tactics played out in exceptional real time. You're in charge of a team of 6 mercenaries and must find a way to complete your missions, be it infiltrating an enemy fortress, saving a team member or escaping an ambush… Combine the different skills of your 6 heroes to lead them to victory.
The Story
El Paso, a typical Wild West town in the southwestern United States near the Mexican border. It is the year 1881. For the last few months, the trains belonging to the famous railroad company, Twinnings & Co have been the target of a whole series of hold-ups and ambushes. The management of the company has decided enough is enough and they have to put an end to the raids. It has offered a reward of $15,000 for anyone who captures the leader of the gang responsible.

But no one in and around El Paso has the courage to take on the might of the bandidos, so the outlaws just keep on robbing train after train. Even the local Marshal is keeping well out of it.

It’s only when a stranger rides into town that things start to change. Bounty hunter John Cooper pays a visit to the local Twinnings & Co manager offering to end the railroad company’s problems once and for all. He gathers together a gang of his old partners and declares war on the bandidos. But during his pursuit, which will take him through half of the southwestern United States, Cooper soon discovers that on this mission nothing is quite what it seems…

  • Dang. 50c short in my steam wallet.
    +1

  • Great game.

  • Interestingly Kalypso(? or something) just announced they purchased the Commando's IP and are going to be making new Commandos games and re-releasing the old games.

  • Great game!

Can be bought for $1.59 AUD and DRM free at GOG - https://www.gog.com/game/desperados_wanted_dead_or_alive

    • I did mention that already above but thank you for pointing it out.

      • +2

You can also get it DRM-free from GoG.

  • Excellent game - good fun!

  • Paid $1.40 AUD using PayPal. Not sure why my conversion rate is much more worse.

    Exchange rate: 1 AUD = 0.710342 USD

I am with Westpac. Used Mastercard debit card I think using straight from my bank account and not card makes no difference.

    • I think you can survive the 6 extra cents, can't you? ;-)
But if you really want to know it is time to query your bank - banks are greedy and maybe Westpac is leading the pack, although of course I have no clue whether that is in fact the case or not.

      • I don't mind the 6 cents it is the discrepancy or anomaly that bugs me especially if I plan to maybe buy a $1600 laptop or some pc parts from overseas sometime in the future.

Bought a tonne of steam games in the past month also.. I think I need to find a better exchange rate because those cents and dollars add up.. probably paid a whole total war wargammer 2 or monster world hunter full price in exchange rate not saved from all the games I buy.

Everything adds up. Might be a PayPal fee or something but I have noticed I don't get the best USD to AUD always sometimes which is bothering to me.

    • Sorry if this is an obvious question, but is the currency conversion being done through PayPal or the bank? Usually PayPal's much greedier, though it does depend which bank you go through.

      • No idea but I am paying with PayPal using my Mastercard debit card which is linked to my Westpac account / bank.

Haven't tried with just my bank account details or just Mastercard details. I assume it is just PayPal fees somehow but I am just assuming and guessing at this somehow.
