Looking for a Replacement Apple Laptop

Been waiting 5 months since the death if my macbook air for this release.. and unfortunatly im stuck in the apple eco system

Currently looking at a
13”
i7 (due to hyper treading)
256gb (most my files are stored on cloud/dropbox/externam hd)
16gb ram

Attempting to a student discount on this price, which js 10 percent off i think)

Has anyine had success with ithering a custom config like this from jbhifi? As im thinking i might be able to buy gift vouchers to bring the price down a bit more ? Does this still work ?

Edit- I chose these specs as I felt they would be set suited for what I do.. editing raw photos In photoshop / light room / bridge / chrome with multiple tabs open
I’m also looking to get back into graphic design

I don’t do coding / video / 3D rendering

  • Looks good but I'd be wary of the 256GB. Even if most of your photos aren't on the main disk it can be eaten up quick.

Yes, the student discount is 10%, which you can normally only get through Apple direct or on-campus Mac 1 (disclaimer: I haven't tried to do it in a while so maybe you can get it elsewhere).

JBHifi will have regular 10% off macs, but that's the same as the student discount and isn't normally available on built-to-order models.

    • How do you get pricing @10%? It’s only 70 off base model

      • Hm, checking now the 13" touchbar is -$150, which is only just over 5%, the macbook escape is more like 3%, and the top of the line 15" is ~7%. I get an education discount (staff) in store, so maybe the student one has changed recently, sorry for misleading you!

The other place to check is iFrog, which is an AU store that sells at decent discounts, and they do BTO options. Their website is a mess and they won't have updated with any of the new models yet. You might be able to get them to quote a price over the chat?

        • I stocked up Myer Gift Cards during a wws sale, hopefully Myer doesn’t go out of business before they stock the new laptop:)

  • The new 2018 MacBook Pro revisions have a quad core i7 and a hexa-core i9 available in the 13 inch Touch Bar and 15 inch Touch Bar models, respectively.

The two cheapest ways to achieve what you want are:

    13 inch MBP w TB
2.7GHz 8th Gen Quad Core i7 (boost up to 4.5GHz)
    16GB RAM
    256GB NVME SSD
    Integrated Graphics
    $3499

    15 inch MBP w TB
2.2GHz 8th Gen Hexa Core i7 (boost up to 4.1GHz)
    16GB RAM
    256GB NVME SSD
    Radeon Pro 555X with 4GB GDDR5
    $3499

Both are the same price, however the 13 inch is a custom build whilst the 15 inch is the standard configuration. Neither are a cheap option, but they will have very solid resale value in the future.
