  • Referral spam - This is a free service offered by most pharmacies who want a steady supply of prescriptions to dispense - Eg. Chemist Warehouse, Terry White etc…

    • Thank you for your comment. The stores around this area charge $5/week. You are welcome to call them to confirm

      • Free for how many years?

        • Thank you for showing interest. Anyone mentioning this deal the free packing will be ongoing

    • Chemist Warehouse

Are you sure CW offer webster packs for free?

      • They definitely do not the last time I checked

    • PlasmaPuff, you make a fair point, but it is a service we all (pharmacists) charge for and are entitled to a fee for. Ultimately every business runs promotions to increase their steady supply of customers/patients/people wanting their goods/services.

Having said that, Chemist Warehouse do not offer free Websterpaking. In fact I respect them because they charge a larger fee per week than most pharmacies, as it is a better reflection of the time and complexity in managing the service.

I do not agree with your neg though. This is a limited time offer on a service that is routinely charged for all across Australia. Unless I am missing something, this is a deal.

      • All the metro Brisbane Chemist Warehouses, Good price pharmacy warehouses etc I know do not charge for Webster packing.

Of course they can, but if no one else is doing it, you stick out like a sore thumb… With the amount of competition at the moment with the warehouse chains, I don't think the fee would be sustainable. Just like how in theory you can charge a dispensing fee for each script but no one charges it.

The income from guaranteed regular scripts in addition to any front shop purchases by far offsets the meagre wages of a dispense tech or pre-reg pharmacist who is doing the packing.

The only places which I know still charge the fee would be in rural areas where you have no competition and therefore no choice.

All the metro Brisbane Chemist Warehouses … do not charge for Webster packing.

          False.

        • Fair enough. I called my local Chemist Warehouse yesterday and it was $6 per week, no delivery offered. I thought that would be a national price, but I could be wrong. I am in NSW for what it is worth.

"The income from guaranteed regular scripts in addition to any front shop purchases by far offsets the meagre wages of a dispense tech or pre-reg pharmacist who is doing the packing."
I don't agree with this. No matter the efficiency or volume, you cannot tell me that material cost, space (that could be used for retail), wages (both tech and pharmacist checking) you lose by providing this service is offset by the prescriptions. It is the lowest margin profit you make, guaranteed. When else would you dispense the same medications 4 times, for the same fee?

Source: Current pharmacist - no friends (lol)

As above, most pharmacies offer free packing and delivery all year round.

    • Could you please advise which pharmacies offer this service for free?

    • That is a fair point, but it is a service we all charge for and are entitled to a fee for. Historically, any offering a free (Websterpak/DAA) service is for a limited time only.

    If the "deal" expires in 22 days then isn't the "saving" only 3 x $5 = $15?

    • The free packing offer is ongoing

  • OP - are you able to post medicines out?

    • Will ask the Pharmacist to check the Pharmacy regulation and let you know. It may depends on the actual medication items in the pack.

If you can I want some Schedule 8 drugs, will pay for Express Post.

  • The majority of chemists offer the service free in my area. It seems unlikely that other chemists in your area, and there are many do not also offer this service.

  • This is supposed to be free. No-one charges on my area.

    • I disagree, we (pharmacists) are entitled to charge for our services. It is not supposed to be free.

If the pharmacies in your area are doing it for free more power to them.

      • +1

Well yes you can charge for your services (ie there is no legislation saying you must give free Webster packs) but many people don't.

However, not many seem to be doing free delivery (only 1 of 5 nearby) so that's good.

        • Totally agree. Probably read "supposed to be free" too literally :)
