Wiggle: Boblbee Megalopolis Aero $213.66 delivered (vs $399.95 AU RRP)

70

First of all, if you don't know what these (ace) backpacks are about then have a look here:

http://www.boblbee.com/us/artiklar/Artikelfullpost.asp?id=47…

In a nutshell: It's an uber-ergonomic hardshell backpack with lots of add-on storage modules and accessories. For peeps who ride motorcycles and scooters, the moulded plate also provides some back protection in the event of an accident. The Megalopolis Aero is the largest in the Boblbee series.

They're (finally) available in Australia via Rushfaster… for $399.95

Now, these are NOT cheap at the best of times. My brother-in-law picked one up for USD239.00 in New York while there in December and was pretty chuffed considering the prevailing exchange rate. Unfortunately, these can be somewhat exxy to ship and I've been quoted anywhere from USD75 to USD105 to have one sent to Sydney from the USA.

I've been doing some reseach and found (what I think/hope is) the best deal around for one of these for Aussies.

Step 1: Go to http://www.wiggle.co.uk/boblbee-megalopolis-aero-hard-shell-… (currently 20% off!)
Step 2: Pick a colour and add it to your cart
Step 3: Set shipping destination to Australia = free courier delivery!
Step 4: (Add any optional accessory modules)
Step 5: Check out!

At the time of writing, GBP130.33 = AUD213.66 (PayPal rate)

Note: I'm a HUGE fan of Rushfaster, especially their awesome service. I've bought lots of stuff from them over the years and I would have loved to have bought one locally. But I just couldn't justify the 46% additional cost and 5-7 days wait for the colour I wanted.

  • What is so special about this bag that justifies the cost?

    • You seem people wearing them around wanting to look like hardcore adventurers etc.

      • I'm going to use mine so that I don't look like a hobbed-over granny by the time I've 50 ;-)

…and, should I take a fall from my bike and land on my back, it will still work out cheaper than chiropractors and/or a wheelchair.

If you read his comments it is because they are solid and according to their website are the only bag currently available with a back protector built in.

    • You're paying for the design, materials and build.

In terms of ergonomic design, it's uber-comfy as it lifts the carried weight away from the lower back. Awesome protection for your stuff AND your back. The plastics and fabric scream quality, too.

If you just want/need a cheapie backback, this is NOT the one to buy ;-)

  • "uber-comfy" ? give me a break, mate. If you had said "uber-ugly" I might have agreed with you.

The use of the word "uber" is enough to tempt me to neg this deal, heh heh…but that would be against the rules.

In terms of the deal itself- It is a good price compared to Aus RRP…. But is it really a bargain ? Hmm. I'm not sure.

  • Id never even heard of these, but i appreciate the post! Looks great! I ride to uni every day and always carry a laptop, Might work a bit better then the trusty krumpler :) Thanks OP!
