Camera Recommendation for Bon Jovi Concert

Calling all camera nerds, I'm after recommendations and suggestions :).

Hey guys I bought a ticket to Bon Jovi's concert at Botanic Park SA, I'm going to be seated in A1 row L
I want to film the whole concert in the best quality video and audio I can afford, my budget is around $500 and I’m not bothered if it's second hand, cheaper the better as I'm a very, very frugal ozbargainer!
I'm after something that's good in low light, good colours, and obviously good audio recording.
I want to get close ups on Bon Jovi, like portrait close ups so I'm guessing I would need 200mm?

Update 1:
I'd just like to thank everyone for their recommendations and suggestions you've been a tremendous help :).
Due to input I'm now considering abandoning recording the concert, and instead capturing stills.
I'm now looking for camera recommendations within my budget, that place a greater emphasis on the quality of stills they capture.

Update 2:
I'd just like to thank everyone for all the comments, suggestions and recommendations.
I have decided to get the Sony Cybershot DSC-RX10, or the second gen if I find it for not much more.
Once again a big thankyou to everyone and have a good one :).

Any advice or recommendations are very much appreciated and thanks in advance :).

P.S. I'll probs post some pictures of the concert here :).

How bout enjoy the concert and buy the recording?

It will be cheaper, you'll have more fun, and the quality will be significantly better.

I never thought of this… This would definitely be the best, cause as Scab once said "I'm gonna party like it's the year 2000!" :)
Thanks tshow, I'll check the website if a recording is available :).

    Do they allow record?

    • I reckon, I couldn't find anything on the website.
I saw some videos that people recorded on YouTube, but I'll double check don't want to waste money on a camera :/.

      Thanks chenrenchun :).

Especially in the premium areas you will be at minimum asked to desist and at most kicked out with no refund.

        • Ouch.
Been thinking I'll just take stills instead of recording the concert.
          Thanks krenske :).

Pretty sure you're not allowed to record on anything more than your phone or something at things like that…

    • Dang :(.
Oh well if there is a recording available to buy like tshow said I'll definitely go that route, it'll be better quality and cheaper too :).

      Thanks John Kimble :).

I recorded an entire Bon Jovi gig around 1988/9 (New Jersey tour) on a VHS-C cam and 4 tapes I smuggled under my denim jacket into the Sydney Entertainment Centre. I never watched it in full except to transfer to a VHS tape; the sound was often distorted/clipped and one viewing angle soon became boring.

        Enjoy the gig.

        • Wow.
When you reach old age though, I bet you'll go over all your memorabilia from your youth and that Bon Jovi concert will be one of them :).
Though I do definitely agree with you on the quality of the recording and viewing only one angle.

Used Sony RX10 with an external shotgun mic, easiest solution. $500 is going to hard though.

    • Thanks for the recommendation plmko, I'll check it out :).
BTW what shotgun mic would you recommend? :).

Mmm, the key words are: quality, $500, 200mm, low light. Low light quality is bigger sensor, fast glass. 2nd hand sony rx10 II. Awesome video, 24-200mm lens @ f2.8 through the range. The combination of the 1" sensor and the f2.8 lens is really good for low light - and then you have sony video quality. There's a review here: https://www.dpreview.com/products/sony/compacts/sony_dscrx10…

    • Those specs look good, thanks for the recommendation poohduck, I'll check it out :).

Hope there's no video record time limit in this one. Many camera has this.

        • I find that limitation to be annoying :(.
I'm not sure about the reason why, but I believe to get around some licensing issue a 30min limitation was introduced, and video cameras don't have the limitation as the manufacturers have paid the licensing fee.
Thanks for reminding me chenrenchun :).

Be present and enjoy the concert.

All you will get with a cheap camera is a shaky, grainy video drifting in and out of focus with distorted and clipped audio.

    • Yeah that's true, if a recording is available to buy like tshow said I'll go down that route.

      Thanks marcusv :).

    $500 … record night concert ?

    no can't do bro

    you need a7sii for that

    • I'm guessing that camera costs more than 2x :(..
I'll check it out and thanks for the recommendation phunkydude :).

Say phunkydude based on where I'll sitting in that diagram that I linked to, what mm zoom lens do you think I'd need to get portrait shots of Bon Jovi?

Trust me - your friends will believe that you went to the Bon Jovi concert, no one will ask you for a video of the entire concert as proof.

Why not just pay $20 to buy a DVD of a Bon Jovi concert (and maybe $30 for a DVD player), and it will be much better quality.

    • I'm not sure, my friends know that I'm a real tight arse, they would want proof lol!

If the Adelaide concert becomes available on Blu-ray I'd definitely get it and skip the camera.

      Thanks seano2101 :).

Lol just take a selfie and show them!

You can try with your phone with an attachable lens
    https://www.ebay.com.au/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p238005…
and hope for the best. Save the money and buy the blueray.

    • Hey that's a good idea.
If the Adelaide concert is gonna be on Blu-ray, I'll get it and use that lens with my phone :).

      Thanks chenrenchun :).

Try and get a refund or sell your ticket and watch the concert on youtube.

    • But I love Jon Bon jovi :(.
I'm his number one fan, I wanna get a selfie of me wearing an Ozbargain t-shirt and me hugging him..

I have filmed hundreds of lifes events. Stand there like a moron for 10+ minutes recording, and i have never ever watch anything i have recorded. I dont even which sd card or old phone any of the vids are on. U only ever look back on pictures, you and everyone your telling wont give a sh*# about a video.

    • Hmm you certainly do make a valid point ego22.
I certainly do look at the photos from my formal, but I hardly look at the video that I recorded.

I certainly do want to get a good camera.
Maybe I shouldn't bother about video and audio quality, a comparative still camera might even cost less?

Thanks ego22 :), think I'll update the post.

  • The worst possible camera you can can find, so you never have to relive such a terrible singer again

  • Any recommendations for a camera for a Queens of The Stone Age concert?
