Where can i find a bargain for tennis and/or squash racket?

placed an order for some swim goggles on wiggle just now.

now i start looking for a tennis racket and probably a pair of cheap squash rackets(b'cos we dont know how to play squash:)

i saw tonight in rebel some cheap ones costing 40 bucks and aldi also has a "special" for tennis rackets this week.

however, as a proud ozbargainer, i believe there is better value somewhere else.

thanks alot. (btw, i dont mind ordering online and waiting for a couple of weeks for delivery)

Cheaper then anywhere in Aus. mark up on rackets here is huge and the AUD is strongly riding the greenback.

    • 3-6 weeks delivery time as world mail. does it really take 3-6 weeks to AU capital city like sydney?

  • I've been using my racquet from Aldi weekly for about a year. It's a good frame although it tends to have a bit more reverb than more expensive racquets. With Aldi, you can play with the racquet for up to 60 days and if you don't like it just return it for a refund. I should add, I picked up the tennis shoes from there and am very happy with them too.

I've found the better way to get a good racquet for cheap is to get a used one from Cash Converters or wherever, then get it restrung by a tennis store. My friend did that is quite happy with the result.

    • cash converters is a good idea. but for racquets, it seems the website recommended by Fincky is quite good. i am planning to order one cheapest (Wilson K Factor K Strike, currently on sale at 45.95usd, plus 12.5usd postage. at same time, probably will grab one from aldi tomorrow, now the question is which to buy, the junior racquet or the adult one from aldi:)

  • Am I right assuming you are a novice? If so then I wouldn't spend more than maybe $70. Once your skills and technique outdo the racquet then go for something really good. End Of Line/season racquets can go for 50% off in sports stores if you are in the right place at the right time. Not sure when that is though. I fluked it few years back.

    • can you make some examples? i could not find any cheaper racket than this wilson K Strike (excluding some junior rackets or the one sold in aldi). what i will do is give my almost 10 years old but well looked after (simply becos i didnt find many opportunities to play tennis, but i do love it) head junior racket to my friend who is a absolutely novice with big interest. then pick up a new racket for myself.

  • If Rebel are selling cheap $40 ones (and they are Prince) then I would be inclined to get that. I buy them for my club so that the beginners can use - they are extremely good value especially since beginners tend to slam them into the walls quite a bit.
