Merged from GearBest not shipping to Australia?
I recently tried to purchase a Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 from GearBest, however when I got to the checkout page, I received an error message. I went back to the product page and saw that under the Shipping heading, it read "no more shipping method".
I tried to select a different warehouse, but I got the same message. I even tried to put different items in my cart (another phone, a table & a laptop), but again, same error message. I even waited a few days and tried again with no luck.
Is anyone else having difficulty ordering from GearBest? I've been using them for years without any issue…this is the first time I've run into this problem.
If anyone has any insight, I would greatly appreciate it. Cheers.Eglobal has a message about closing their Australian front because of the gst changes. Maybe gear best is doing it more subtly?
Did a quick test - it will let me buy a light bulb or backpack, but not a mobile phone.
Same thing here, been trying to buy a phone.
I actually asked them and they said that they currently don't have a shipping method to AU. But, they asked me to check in 2 to 3 weeks time.
I suspect that they can't use their existing shipping methods due to the GST, so maybe they are trying to get away with another method.
Check Geekbuying they still can ship although they are more expensive than Gearbest.Been keeping an eye on a tablet, it's finally hit a price I'm ok with and can no longer buy it due to:
"product does not support sending to the current country"
[rant] Scrap the GST. Do not vote for any politician or party that supports continuing it.
Gerry Harvey the consumer will both be winners!
Oh that's right the government has guns and shows us who runs things around here. [/rant]
Just noticed they have a weird shipping option for Oz now and it's ridiculous
Express For E-cigarette Only AU$84.88 - 10-15 business days
That was an option with an Android Tablet in the cart
And of course my item has gone up $200 (~$300-$500), no longer on sale.
Merged from Gearbest can't deliver Xiaomi phones to Aus any more?
I tried to order a Xiaomi Mi Max 2 from Gearbest today. I was unable to.
Their online chat assistant said:"I am sorry, currently we cannot ship this item to your country due to Customs policy and courier restrictions. However, we hope that it will change in the near future and you will be able to order from us again soon."
Admittedly, I have been under a rock taking care of things other than tech and purchasing info recently, but…I have picked up several things delivered from Gearbest in the past week. Is it just phones? Is this correct… That we can't buy from Gearbest any more?
What's going on?That'll teach you not to buy from Harvey Norman!
Hehe…I've been there twice in the last 4 yes, each time vowing to never go back.
I reckon I will prob keep my word…their salesmen truly suck.
Wouldn't let me buy a Mediapad M3 LTE tablet today (utter steal at AU$229). Same error message, when you try to check out.Seems they haven't been able to "fix it soon".
I don't think they're going to "fix it". It's because of the new GST rules.
I'd guess that the fix will be to start charging gst, as some others already do.
Anyone know of a dependable parcel forwarder in Hong Kong?
So basically there is no system in place to collect/pay GST at this end. Well thought out (not). :( Surely in this day and age.
Incredible isn't it. I can't think of another country that forceably outsources collection of its sales tax to overseas companies, rather than doing it at its own border. Its almost like they want to stop them selling into Australia period.
Well, except the entire European Union, and the United Kingdom, which do the exact same thing.
Are you sure that the UK HMRC doesn't collect its own VAT (GST) & duty on stuff you ship into the UK from outside the EU, by sending you a bill to pay (and possibly holding the goods until its paid), and that the seller does nothing other than supply an accurate sales invoice for HMRC valuation purposes?
Are you sure that EU vendors, shipping to elsewhere in the EU, don't collect their LOCAL VAT (GST), for their LOCAL tax authority, as opposed to collecting and forwarding the destination country's VAT for them?
Are you sure there's any similarity there at all with Gearbest collecting Australian GST in Hong Kong and sending it to Canberra?
Because I don't think there is.
A bunch of good laptop sales at Gearbest right now, and none are offering shipping options to Australia. This is the end of a quality bargain site ☹ Hopefully Gearbest or someone else finds a workaround soon
It's astounding that assholes like Gerry Harvey can force through this protectionist bullshit to save their own companies.
It's like luxury car tax, which was put in under the guise of protection for out local car industry. An industry that doesn't exist anymore. But the tax sure does.
Gearbest now seems to allow shipping to Australia again, via Singapore Post registered.
At least it does for the tablet that it wouldn't let me buy a couple of days ago.
doesn't seem to be all items - tried for a few mobile phones but still no shipping method
Hmmm I tried several tablets and a couple of phones (Oneplus 6 and Huawei P20). No problem with the tablets (which is new) but still a problem with the phones. Maybe it's something they're implementing in stages? It's definitely taken a step in the right direction, which is good.
I hope so…I think Chinavasion has stopped shipping phones to AU as well :(
@ssx: Soon it's just not going to be worth being alive any more :(
AFAIK the GHST applies to everything <$1000. So why would Gearbest allow shipping of some things (eg tablets) to Australia, but not others (eg. phones)?
I've given up waiting. Ended up buying a tablet from the Good Guys (ebay with discounts)
The tablet I wanted still never showed Aus shipping as an option and I check at least once a day, every day. Tab 4 8 Plus, Bought the local 10 Plus instead.
Strangely, the older tab 3 8 pls is shipping here, but too old for my liking android 6 with no updates (and has been ~$50 cheaper before the tax changes).
$275 for the Huawei Mediapad M3 8.4" on Gearbest was still a cracking deal for a cracking tablet mind. Lovely 1600 x 2560 screen and LTE (with B28) to boot. Although it rankles that it was also $225 before it could be shipped to Aus. I'm waiting to see if it goes back again.
Seems like gearbest is now charging GST and has resumed shipping phones / tablets.
Wonder if Aliexpress will follow this path too
…im in my cart > random item & 'Ship to Australia / AUD'
is available in top R corner
