OzBargain's favourite pasta is back. This time at IGA.
19c per 100g
Check your local catalogue.
Thanks PJC.
Fairly certain that coles or aldi store brand pasta gets down to 0.13$AUD/100g, but I don't recall which one. This definitely isn't the best value around.
Same can be said for a Supermarkets own brand against any food produce. It's relative to to that products usuall RRP, not necessarily finding the cheapest.
I'm guessing there's a reason why ozbargain isn't just full of supermarket brand names… for Zafarelli pasta, this is pretty good. Coles usually have 2 for $3.
Divella pasta is the best! I should know I'm Italian ;)
Lol being Italian doesn't mean you know crap about food lol. Real Italians just make it, takes 5 mins…
Did you see the ;) it was a joke lol. Anyway Divella is a better than Zafarelli, ask any Italian I bet the majority will agree with me :)
The brand sounds more like African than Italian… btw same price in Coles $0.97
@dlovep: Made in Italy https://www.divella.it/en/history-of-pasta.html
@adr8: we got the point, thanks for your opinion
Zafarelli is nowhere near as good as Divella but Divella isn't great either.
Di Ceccho and Garofalo are the ones you want. Price is 3x Zafarelli but well worth it.
I'm from Napoli, known for pasta and Pizza.
Italians don't compromise on quality when it comes to food, our culture is built around food and family.
honest question: arent all dried pasta the same.
No, try Barilla and you'll see and taste the difference.
both zaferalli and barilla pretty bad. Just like san remo and all the others that share oven drying and teflon extrusion.
You can tell by the dark, glass like appearance.
Good stuff is air dried at room temp and extruded through bronze (slower).
It looks very coarse and opaque.
Try for instance La molisana, Garofalo, divella the organic line at woollies, the top shelf casa barelli at aldi… Worlds apart
goto aldi for casa barelli. got it
Not in the slightest. Buy Garofalo pasta from Coles and try it. You'll never go back.
Yes, I really like the radiatori ones. They pick up a lot of sauce.
How does this stack up to Barilla?
None of the supermarket brands come close.
Neither are supermarket brands though?
I meant none of the other brands like Vetta, San Remo and Zafarelli come close to Barilla.
I prefer Australian made food, and dislike the way Italian food seems to be dumped here e.g. Italian tomatoes, where they were either below cost of production, or made with virtually slave labour from African refugees. I believe this was reported, but haven't the inclination to go searching.
gmo, pesticides, organic labelling and controls are way stricter and safer in the EU. The best in the world.
" I believe this was reported, but haven't the inclination to go searching."
Wow, what an advocate.
They're also the same price at Coles; bought a few packs there yesterday
When I was in Rome, the kind lady who owned the apartment I rented gave me a food welcome pack with Barilla pasta and sauces in it.. So that's what I use now. Approved by a humble lady in Rome.
Buy 21 packs and get a free newspaper.
Well spotted OP.
