Logitech Ultimate Ears 200 $30 Save $10, 200vi $45 Save $15,100 $22.50 (Newly Released Range)

90

The cheapest I could find elsewhere for these two products is $40 and $60 elsewhere, so this seems a pretty good deal. This is for the newly released range, not the metro fis. I don't know how the quality are on them, but below 200 is 100, which is incidentally on sale at DSE for $22.50

Is Logitech killing off Ultimate Ears branding? Tacky cheap design. Suits the build quality nowadays I guess. RIP UE.

UE back in the day of the superfi.5 pro were still making great universal iem's. Logitech then bought them and turned them into the consumer oriented business while still developing decent earphones at a lower point both financially and in terms of sound quality (super fi 5, super fi 3, super fi 5 EB, UE700 and the old metro fi range). But now with the new line up and the new metro fi releases they have let everything go, sound quality, build quality, everything (except maybe pricing, but only when it's from LTS). I now no longer consider the UE brand for universal earphones although I will consider them when I eventually go for customs, they're still one of the best in that department.

I guess logitech bought out UE so they can jump into the earphones market without having to start R'n'D from scratch, cheaper and faster this way plus the added benefit of having the old company's reputation to destroy (or in their eyes gain and enhance). They still however produce some quality products like the UE 700 and triple fi 10 pro (albeit a design from when UE wasnt controlled by logitech).

      • Get some TripleFi's for around $200 and reshell them with Unique Melody for around $235 (extra $135 if you want another driver and artwork) and bam, you have a custom triple/quad driver IEM for about half the price of what you'll pay for a UE 7 Pro (triple driver) or UE 11 Pro (quad driver). That's what I'm planning to do…TripleFi's are on their way. :)

In the meantime, I have the UE700 at the moment and they are a fantastic dual driver earphone. I might sell them when I get the TripleFi's.

      • That's a half decent idea actually, but adding an extra drive is a gimmick when it comes to reshelling I think cause the original 3 drivers were designed to be just three and not 4. But something tells me the drivers in the Triple Fi's isn't exactly the same as the UE X Pros, any comment on this?

        • AFAIK, the drivers are the same.

As for the extra driver, the mids in the TripleFi's are a little recessed so Unique Melody offer adding an extra mid driver to boost the mids.

@itsross - I don't think they're worth considering in the low end of the market but their high end stuff is still great…I just hope Logitech don't jump in and stuff that up.

  • you didnt make another stupid zyzz related thing in your post!

ULtimate ears are shite!! I returned mine 4 times under warranty. Eventually I gave up and pulled them apart, the contacts weren't even soldered, they were just glued!! Soundmagic headphones on focalprice are similar, cheaper & have a much better build quality.

Hopefully UE have improved with this newer version.

    • I have to agree.
I've owned two pairs that cost well over $140 each and they both failed me.
Am currently using my fiancé's el-cheapo Scull Candy's which have lasted twice as long.
      UEs are completely overrated IMO.

      • Thank GOD.
I want new headphones but UEs were the only ones on sale.
And I can't stand how they all look the same.
Time to try a different pair of new IEMs! :D

mate, friends don't let friends use skullcandy.

      • I don't know…
I bought 2 pairs of those Metrofi 220s from logitechshop last time when they were $20 and I am still on my first pair which I use every single day at work and when I go to bed. They are still going stong and the cords are still pretty tough.

    • maybe you're damaging them. i used my first pair of metro fi 220vi for just under a year when i lost them, and at that time they were still completely fine.

      • I love my MetroFi220's

I think this new gen look alot cheaper (havent heard them though)

      • lucky. I lost mine in a week. Also lost skullcandy's after 1 time.

I am used to losing stuff :(

      • Trust me when I say that I treated my UE's like gold compared to these $15 Skull Candys. Always put them back in their case, never dropped them, dragged them, wrapped them around my phone or anything like that, yet both pairs came out with different problems. I'm not pro Skull Candies by any means, but if they can withstand disrespectful abuse then the UE's should have been fine considering I handled them with kid gloves. Plus I was a little underwhelmed with their sound quality considering the price. These ones may have addressed that issue by dropping the cost however.

        • Which model did you have?

        • @Stix I had the Super.fi 4 then the 4vi. I remember that because the microphone on the vi was so bulbous it kept catching on my shirts collar which was also irritating.

  • Does anyone know if the remote control of UE 200vi will work with any phone other than iphone? Yesterday I bought a pair of altec lansing but I had to return them. They were only compatible with iphone.

    • The 200vi are specifically designed for the iPod Touch/iPhone (it says on the packaging btw)

I bought my 200vi from DSE earlier this week as I needed a new pair of earphones. There's a button and a mic on the remote to pick up calls, though I haven't tested that feature out 'cos I use an iPod Classic.

  • Just found this in Amazon website: (*Volume control functionality not available with BlackBerry devices)
http://www.amazon.com/Ultimate-Ears-200vi-Noise-Isolating-He… highly likely they wont work with any devices other than iphone.

  • i have the UE200vi- 2 years warranty and better than Sennheiser MM50. They don't work with Nokia or Sony Ericsson. iPod Touches and iPhones are compatible

  • The UE Superfi 4vi and Metro 220vi I bought from L'shop have been faulty within a few months.
