Hi all, have just joined Ozbargain (not to just for this phone, but long time lurker and thought it might be time to contribute).
Just wanted to post up a warning about the Moto G5S Plus mobile phone. The camera is beyond terrible due to a software glitch and no fix looks to be on the horizon. In short, it actually has good camera hardware, but when the camera takes a photo, the image gets processed and down-scales severely in quality. Everything is smudged and looks like its taken in low light.
I'm not exaggerating with the quality, I have a Moto Z Play, older cheapy Lenovos, a Nexus 5…all of them completely blow away the Moto G5s Plus quality. Its enough that my wife who I bought the phone for (who never really cares too much about picture quality) it still carrying around her old phone to take any photos of the kids because the faces come out blurry in group photos.
Can't confirm if it happens to every phone, but seems to be a known issue that Motorola (now owned by Lenevo) have tried to address through updates but without success. Users online are hopeful that the release of Android Oreo will fix the bug, but no date on this and it is a bit of a wish and a prayer.
Given I am seeing a lot of these phones on special at the moment on Ozbargain (got mine from a Good Guys deal a few weeks ago), just thought I would send out a warning to others.
Example I made showing the difference between the G5S Plus and my Nexus 5X.
Cheers Ryan, and welcome to the zoo.
Although I don't have this phone, a Huawei I bought on clearance has similar issues. Great spec, dual LED flash and many shooting modes etc. The few indoor shots I've taken have been sub-par.
There will surely be an app to address these issues.
