Just finishing off my Woolies order and this popped up as ½ price but for online orders only, might be time to give it a try.
(also confirmed to be marked down in store)

Yes.
(Although certainly not worth the $10 they usually charge for it)
Yeah, so many people rave about it, but thought $10 was a bit too nutty for a small tub of icecream :P will give this a go! Thanks
Sorry I'm gonna say no. It tasted like eating nothing at all. Very airy, hardly any flavour. I understand they toned down the kilojoules but if I really was on a health kick I'd rather eat fruit than this…
Yes and no. It's great if you're on a low carb diet. But it's nowhere near as good as other premium priced ice cream.
It's not as nice as Connossieur ice cream, but it's better than most - although it has a dry feel and not creamy like most ice cream. But it also doesn't have sugar - and personally I can feel it. It's nice to have some and then once done there's no cravings for that little bit more sugar.
Personally the mint choc chip was very decent, and the birthday cake was nice and interesting. I think I had another flavour that was fairly forgettable.
But if you're looking for a very low cal ice cream, or treat - then it's worth trying - although I do agree that $10 is a bit too much. $5 is totally fair
It's not very good.
It has a strange, sorta flour-y consistency.
Agreed, I got the free Birthday Cake stuff and it just didn't taste like ice cream. I'm not a gym junkie or a Pete Evans so I ended up throwing it in the bin.
They market it as being like ice cream without the bad stuff, but it's not like ice cream… sweet, but not ice cream.
Not for me. I tried it (chocolate) some time ago based on the hype. It tastes like finely ground cardboard that's been glued back together.
surprisingly nice
I've had three tubs now, and all have been awful. That said, they're from the IGA around my house which has a habit of having pretty terrible freezers.
I've found them to be all very icey and not close to ice cream. It was pretty tasteless too.
The people who rave about it i've found to be the ones who would never actually eat regular ice cream anyway :)
Haha look like this one is widely subjective. I do love my junk food so I think that this wouldn't be for me, but might give 1 a go and then put it out of my mind forever
Harry's Salted Caramel is often $3 at my local WW for some reason.
Great value, but not as good as Haagen Daaz Salted Caramel.
Halo Top is decent, but the trade off of calories vs flavour is obvious.
Bought these for the first time yesterday @ $5 from my local Woolies. The Mint Choc Fudge one is pretty amazing (got the salted caramel but not tried it yet).
Just bought the vanilla one for $5 in store at Emu Plains Woolworths. The vanilla and chocolate were both marked at $5.
Hats off to you if you like it, and I am sure they have plenty of fans out there.
For me, I expected a premium ice cream experience.
That is not what I had. It was flat, watery and not smooth and creamy.
Might be great that the calories are lower, but hey, this is ice cream, which is an indulgence.
Therefore, in my view, it wasn't great value even on sale.
Everyone has differing tastes, so I'll leave it at that.
More for you to buy when it's on sale as I won't buy this brand again.
this is ice cream, which is an indulgence
Pretty sure ice cream is a staple and one of the five food groups.
/Nods sagely
Along with Beer, Bacon, Chocolate & something else
yes even I expected it to taste like Haagen Daaz or ben & Jerrys given the price but disappointed with the taste. I thought I could fulfil my cravings as well as control my calorie intake. After trying this, I was still craving for real ice cream. I will probably try Harry's salted caramel this time.
I don't think it's fair to expect a premium tasting ice-cream considering it's low calorie.
Agreed, tried it just today. The taste is ok, not creamy at all, but at half the calories of other ice creams I was already expecting something to be amiss.
I think it's good to satisfy an ice cream craving in a less fattening way, but it is quite pricey and I probably wouldn't buy it again.
Ignoring the low calories and high protein or whatever, if judging purely by taste then I would rank this icecream below average. (I only tried the chocolate flavour)
I've tried this, and thought it was fkn awful. Texture was completely off to me, not soft or creamy, and tasted like it was made with long life milk. Chucked it in the bin and bought some real icecream instead next time
LOL people buying halo top and expecting it to taste like calorific brands?
It's supposed to be a healthy alternative hence the price point.
But for the price this is worth it, there's not a lot of alternatives out there like fropro tastes worst than this unless you're into that sorbet type.
Don't buy Halotop expecting it to taste like ice cream, it's for those adjusting to a healthy lifestyle and still need to curve the ice cream cravings.
Agree, Halo Top is a niche product, much lower in sugar than all the other mainstream ice creams available. I believe it's only Halo Top and FroPro that offer such products. All others are BS marketing, promoting low fat as the holy grail, not emphasising the sugar which in reality is much worse.
Not in SA?
This is shithouse. Real ice cream lovers expecting a full flavour experience don't buy.
I'm guessing that everyone here is eating it like normal ice cream. The way to do it is to leave it in the fridge(not freezer) for 3-5 hours, and then eat it. If you just eat it out of the freezer, it's like a block of flavoured ice. This is my favourite ice cream.
Yep, gotta follow the instructions on the tub and let it defrost for a little bit.
Perhaps consider this Peters No Added Sugar Ice Cream:
https://www.woolworths.com.au/shop/productdetails/330934/pet…
It is far cheaper - even when Halotop is half price ($6.30 per litre vs $11 for the on sale Halotop) and the nutritional values are actually better.
Per 100 grams:
Lower Kilojoules - 510 vs 523
Lower Carbohydrates - 8.5 vs 20
Lower Sugar - 8.5 vs 9
Lower Fat - 2.7 vs 4
Protein is lower but Halotop promote themselves as a 'Protein Icecream' but the difference isn't too much 5.6 vs 8.
As a diabetic I am mindful of the impact of the foods I eat on my blood sugar levels and 100 grams of the Peters Icecream only raises my blood sugar by around 0.7 mmol/L at 2 hours post ingestion.
The copious amounts of sorbitol might turn some people off.
I like to movement movement. I like to movement movement. Ya like bowel… MOVEMENT.
Hi all,
in reply to those who said it is not good/blunt.
Given that it has NO sugar, artificial flavours etc.. a lesser flavour hit is expected. Sugar is, as you might know, 5 times more addictive than cocaine.
Considering the ingredients, it's the best tasting healthy ice cream on the shelf.
I am not a rep from Halo, but I have tried pretty much all alternatives.
Also, there are no emulsifiers, artificial flavours and colours.
I take this any day over connoisseur or other brand.
Once you remove sugar from your diet, you get used to it and this becomes heaven.
Halo Top still has sugar. Just less than other brands and mixed with stevia, so if you're cutting out sugar completely, this may not work for you. See here
For someone who is trying to keep on my calorie deficit, this ice cream is gold. It's not meant to compete with Ben & Jerry's or Connoisseur but it does the job if I'm feeling like a nice creamy treat without the calorie density.
if low calories is what your aiming for try paddle pops… they are fairly similar in calories to halo top (depending on flavor) per 100g and much cheaper
Does this icecream match up to the hype?
