Meal Substitute Protein Shake - suggestions

Hi all

Wifey is in the protein shakes. She’s has been Been buying here small containers from the supermarket. I’m sure there is a better option. Anyone got any recommendations for a nice tasting, now sugar bulk option?

I’m guessing bulk nutrients - but which one? Do we go the whey or isolate? I’ve got no idea.

Any suggestions?

Also I know we could make them ourselves but sometimes it’s easier to add start to powder when you’re busy at work.

Cheers

Does she even need protein shakes? Does her diet lack in protein? Why does she drink them, what are her goals?

    • Protein satiates you immediately unlike carbohydrates.

    • Her diet is fine. More to do with having something in your bag to ingest when you’re on the move and is filling.

I’ve been making soup but (obviously) it doesn’t last forever. After something that’s convenient

  • 1) If trying to lose weight, drinking your calories isn't recommended due to the lower satiation factor liquids have. Also it should be part of a wider nutrition plan to meet certain macros based on her goal.
    2) Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard protein powder has the protein/carb ratio closer to WPC (80%), but it's still pretty low in sugar and is the best tasting protein I've ever had. WPI is usually 90%+. Whether to choose WPC and WPI again depends on desired macros which in turn depends on the goal.
    3) Amino Z has deals a few times a year where you can get Gold Standard at 10lb/4.5kg bag for $127.
    4) Haven't tried Bulk Nutrients personally but have heard good things and they're reasonably priced as well. Try not to pay more than $30/kg.
    5) As for storage solutions for protein powder, can't really see another way around little containers. More secure than sandwich bags. Or just keep the bag of protein at work and scoop as required?

for protein, those little cans of chicken are pretty good, and taste better than youd think.

for weight loss, eat more vegetables. dont battle hunger and dissatisfaction by avoiding meals. konjac noodles can be pretty great. they are basically 0 calorie noodles, no taste and super easy to use in meals as empty filler

    • I appreciate your username.

      • right back at ya

  • whey protein concentrate is fine, they claim isolate is superior because theres more protein in the serving, lactose free and easier to digest but i think thats just marketing and bullshit. You wont feel a difference from both. Just get WPC, save yourself some bucks

  • I like WPI over WPC purely because it dissolves better and is less grainy.

Bulk Nutrients or Venom are both good, both source from Australian milk.
