Thailand for 20 Days

I'm flying to Thailand for approximately 20 days and it will broken down something like this:

1 night in singapore
7 nights in bangkok
8 nights in phuket
3 nights in singapore
back home

I was wondering what is the feasibility of going to Cambodia while I am in bangkok for a day trip? Or overnight trip, by flight. I was mainly interested in going Siem Reap to see angkor archaeological park. Should I stay in Cambodia for a bit longer? I can possibly move some more days from phuket to bangkok so I can stay in Cambodia for longer.

What do people think?

Cheers

  • It's very feasible, but I'd suggest a 3 day trip so you have a full day exploring (or at least arrive there night 1, explore day 2, depart morning 3) they have standard circuits that take a full day or half a day, but depending on time of year I found it too hot to do much (and very little shade) between 11-2pm. The drivers will likely stay with you for the day for around $20-30US, and take you where you choose to go including a break over lunch. By staying over the night before you can have an early start and beat the crowds to the sites.

My only other suggestion is maybe arrive a early enough the night before to visit the ticket booth and purchase the tickets for the next day (check on trip advisor and they can tell you what sort of times you can start purchasing) and if you time it right you can get a sunset visit to the Wat that first night too.

I don't know about buses to or from Bangkok, but I heard that you need a bus to the border, walk across and a different service to Siem Riep. Or train to a station near the border, bus to the border etc. I flew, and while that includes the usual wait at the airport, transport within Bangkok is so easy. Trains to and from the Bangkok airport are very regular.

If you get a chance I found the War memorial was a nice 1-2 hour visit. They have veterans that guide you and tell you the stories behind photos/weapons and the wars.

    • Okay thanks, I will look into the ticketing. Looks like you and the person below both think 3 days is the best. Cheers!

  • day trip: No.
minimum I would suggest is fly in Day 1 am, fly out Day 3 night, gives near 3 full days.
Anything less does not do the area justice.

Plan your travel in a circuit, eg SIN>REP>BKK>HKT>SIN to minimise flights

    • I will look into that cheers. I had been planning BKK-REP-HKT but needed to fly back to BKK before I can go HKT. Will look into the other way around. Sounds like 3 days is the way to go

  • Forget about Cambodia, Vietnam is much more interesting :)

  • 8 days in Phuket is way too much, considering doing Phi Phi Island and Krabi instead. We stayed in Phuket for 3 days last time and hated it. Lucky we were moved to Phi Phi Island and Krabi after. Would not go back.

  • Singapore and Thailand are different countries…seems like you're spending 16 days in Thailand..

  • 7 nights in Bangkok might be overkill unless you have specific things you need/want to do. I would look at 4 nights if it is your first time.
A must do and very cheap is get on the public ferry on the Chao Phraya river and just go up and back; cheapest tourism you can get.
Personally I don't like Phuket, far too noisy and commercialised (particularly Patong, Karon and Kata)for my taste. For the past several years we have gone to Khao Lak (about 75 minutes drive north of Phuket airport.

  • Recommended waking up for sunrise views at Angkor Wat

    • if you buy a ticket in the evening the day before you go, you will also be able to see the sunset.
get ready for a mass of tourist for the sunrise…
and don't go back to the hotel for breakfast continue on while the rest go back… less people!

  • Phuket 2-3 days, Bangkok the rest. Get bored go down to hau hin or pattaya if your in to that sort of thing.

Still bored ? Jump on a plane, from dmk plenty of $10-20 flights to just about anywhere in Thailand.

    • Will I be landing again if I get on those $10-20 flights? So cheap cant be good for safety lol

      • Up to You. lol .
They are flown by Airasia mostly.
Did bangkok to Udon thani, a few times. $9-$12 . Chang mai i seen as low as $15. You can fly by Thai Smile not much more and includes some snacks and water.

I have had no issues with them. done at least 80+ domestic flights in Thailand over the last 2 years.

        • All the ones that had issues can't post anymore :)

All jokes aside, thanks for that. Ill look into it
