bought it 4 years ago, it was around $15, it's still very good

      • You bought an 8GB USB 4 years ago for $15? Where from?

        • links to 8GB O_O

        • oops should've mentioned mine is 2GB

        • ah, that makes a bit more sense :)

  • nice price!

  • USB 2.0 makes it slightly less appealing but for the price I won't complain.

USB 2.0 should allow 480mbit maximum speed. That will allow a read speed of 60 MBytes/s. This thing is no where near that.

But that's the technical maximum, other factors come into play that mean the realistic ceiling is about 40MB/s

      • usb 2.0 wasnt duplex so its 30 up 30 down, realistically most cheap usb 2.0 devices average out on 21-25 MB/s, if you get 30MB/s you are blessed with a good one.

  • What MLN like with their postage times?

    • I've never actually bought anything from their online store. I live close to the actual shop so it is easier for me to get it from there.

  • I added item to cart and it charged me 9 bucks for shipping. Total $20, no deal for me.

    • +1

yeah thats why i just go in store.

    Benchmarks please?

I have this drive, I bought it for 20 from HN not too long ago. Feel ripped off now lol. It transfers at about 20mb/s but obviously peaks higher. Very good flash drive IMO.

Is that read or write? And what sort of files were being read/written?

Ed: I would be quite impressed if that was write :)

      • So would I, given that the missus has one & the xfer speeds on hers are woeful…I've never got it to crack 5mb/s! I cringe whenever she suggests I put a movie on it for her! ;)

        • +1

I think most of the cheap USB2 thumbs only do 5MB/s writes. I have a 16GB Sandisk and thats all it does. I also have a 32GB Corsair GTR and that does 28MB/s writes and 35MB/s reads. However, it cost $90. It's worth it if you're loading them up with movies or big apps.

      • +2

Reads at 17.78MB/s and writes at 11.02MB/s.

        • +1

That's quite a nice write speed, thanks for the info :)

        • Damn, I should take the missus' one back to Hardly Normal & tell 'em to use it as a suppository!!! She did only pay $7 for it though…when the Lexars ran out last sale they started dishing those out! ;)

    • HN had the 16GB model of the same type for $19 last month, are you sure yours is 8GB?

  • +1

    that's a good price

  • I got one from MLN. Worth the price

  • At Myer for $14.95 if you find going to Myer more convenient and don't want to be slugged for postage (pg5 in Myer's catalogue)

  • Nice price, anyone able to price match this deal for non Melbourne people?
