So I need to order Canon photo paper because it's all my printer will eat and it likes to eat every single day. But it's so much cheaper on American Amazon than anywhere I can find here. A pack of 50 Pro Platinum 4 x 6 is less on Amazon US delivered than two packs of 20 before delivery here. Where am I meant to get my photo paper now if Amazon US won't be available from July.
So we have four hours to order something from American Amazon? Photo paper is so much cheaper there even after shipping.

No idea but damn this new law/tax application on purchases under $1000 will mean the end of an era and beginning of a new one.
Thankfully I have some reliable and trusty contacts in America to do my freight forwarding and Australia shipping but wow.. no more Amazon US deals.. sad
Back to the bad old days.
No more free trade spirit :(
You can thank Gerry Harvey for this.
Indeed, and I will thank him by not shopping at his stores.
I've been thanking Gerry by not shopping at his stores for years! :)
Amazon US items are turning up on Amazon AU, and at least currently seem to be turning up at competitive costs. Not sure if GST gets added later on in the process but :
AMD Ryzen 2200G - US Price $96
AMD Ryzen 2200G - AU Price $131.65 (with free Prime international delivery
= $97 fulfilled by Amazon US)
AMD Ryzen 2200G - AU Price $152 (Aus seller)And what do you know, they put GST on at midnight. Price is now $141 rather than $131.
Holy wow. I had a huge order lined up and bought gift card credit from OzBargain users to make up my total.
Everything in the cart ready to go and I open up another tab to see how much another item would change shipping and boom.We are unable to ship non-digital items from amazon.com to Australian shipping addresses.
Please choose a shipping address that is not in Australia to proceed. Some restrictions may still apply depending on the item. You can also visit Amazon.com.au to access millions of products for delivery to Australia.
WHAT? IT'S LIKE 10:30 PM.
Luckily the other tab I had open was up to the last screen before checkout and it worked! Oh my gosh, I almost cried.
Also, f*** you Gerry Harvey. I hate you, you stink.
I was just about to make my last order and use my remaining gift card balance. Not sure what I'm going to do with the balance now! You'd think Amazon could cut off orders at the time they stated!
I would have been happy to pay the 10% GST Gerry, it still would have been cheaper.
So sad, end of an era.
Try the same, Amazon just cut off, would have thought 1st of July over in the US, not even yet over there.
Nooooo i am about to finalised my purchased and it was block :(
Yeah cutting it off before 11:59 pm sucks and is unexpected.
And I missed the 15% US ebay sale by 15 minutes because it finished at 11:00pm PST no 11:59pm PST as I'd assumed.
And I have pre-orders on Amazon US and Amazon UK which will probably be cancelled due to the delivery address.
Bad bad bad day.
I contacted Amazon UK re a pre-order they said as long as it's ordered before the cut off it should be delivered.
Thanks good to know.
They don't take payment until it's ready to ship so I thought they might cancel the order if payment was due after June 30.
Fingers crossed.
The email I received about using my Gift Certificate balance said…
Orders for shipment to Australian addresses must be completed and paid for on amazon.com before 11.59pm AEST on 30 June 2018.
So Amazon either screwed up or moved the deadline without notifying anyone.
Aaargh the whole page of cart items is red. They said midnight :(
Amazon.co.uk and amazon.fr the same with error during checkout. So I guess all amazon's gone :( Amazon.com.au still allowing no GST for items sold by Amazon US which I assume will stop at midnight. Would be okay if amazon.com.au sold all amazon shipped products from all amazon's (not just selection from Amazon US) and like others I don't mind the GST just let me order what I want. At least I will be spending less from now on.
**GHT (Gerry Harvey Tax) ;)
I just spent an hour on chat with Amazon to see if anyway of getting an order through before midnight, no luck, but they are going to transfer my gift card balance to AU.
And the item I want is not on Amazon AU
Amazon AU are selling 50 pack of Platinum Pro paper for $6 more than Amazon US, and that’s without including shipping on the AU one. Gerry did all this on the off chance I might want to pay him retail for this exact same paper?
Are they at least converting it to AUD or doing 1:1?
They didn't say, they are going to get a member from the Amazon AU team to contact me and transfer it to AU, they should convert it to AU otherwise will be losing out on the cost of the gift card.
Absolutely. I’m surprised they’re not giving you a little extra for the screw over. Amazon support usually rock.
The rep did say they would add an amount to my gift card balance before the AU team transfers it across, but nothing extra in there yet.
@Blackrose: ah cool. Fingers crossed!
try ebay.com it'll probably grow so much with the death of Amazon.com for Australia.
Did you have any luck getting the balance transferred. I contacted Amazon by email and online chat and they insist there is no way for them to transfer the balance from Amazon.com to Amazon.com.au?
I am getting the same now, they are going to get the gift card department to contact me to refund the gift card amount that I purchased via balance reload.
I asked about having the amount refunded to a credit card but was told they couldn't do that either. If you manage it please leave a reply here.
Yep I will, if they do refund it I'm assuming I will only get the amount I purchased via balance reload not the reload bonus or $10 credit from the Audible deal that I had in my account.
I have had the amount that I purchased via balance reload refunded.
@Blackrose:
Thanks for the update. My balance came from the Associates program so that may explain why they won't return the money to a credit card.
Personally I seldom print photos. 10 cents 4x6 prints @ Big W will do.
Small photos are cheaper at big w. But when you get bigger it works out to be a bit cheaper to do at home. But even ignoring that, I’m never bothered to go to Big W to do this or order online. By the time the photos arrive I’ve forgotten I’ve even ordered them. And going in for them is a chore. Home printing is convenient. The results are better than big w. And with after market ink especially it’s cheaper to do bigger photos at home. Most of all though I actually print a lot now, fill empty frames, gift people nice sturdy prints on the cheap.
Out of interest, I just tried to "reorder" three expensive hardback books that I already ordered from Amazon US last week, and for which I'm still awaiting delivery - due on 12 July.
A couple of points:
1 I'm not receiving any message from Amazon saying that they won't ship the books - and my card payment is still showing as "pending", not yet paid.
So it appears that Blackrose's comment above is correct - as long as things were ordered before the cut-off it will be fine.2 When I tried to reorder the books from Amazon US, as expected I got the message "We are unable to ship non-digital items from amazon.com to Australian shipping addresses."
3 However, when I tried to reorder them through Amazon AU, they were showing as not available in AU.
But I had no problem placing the order through Amazon US using Prime on the AU site - I joined up with free membership last week, as I knew I would doing an order for 16 expensive hardcover books.
And the order went through at the AUD equivalent to the USD price, plus a couple of extra dollars for the conversion. So maybe using Prime will be a way around the problem for goods that aren't available locally??
As above I was wanting to purchase an item yesterday from Amazon US but as they blocked AU purchases before midnight I didn't get it in.
I searched on Amazon AU for the item but they did not have it, I have just gone to Amazon US got the product code from the URL and did a search on Amazon AU, now the item I was after shows up on Amazon AU from the same seller as Amazon US but the price was $87.67 + $3 shipping much cheaper than Amazon US which is US$118.72 + US$14.95 shipping, approx $180 AUD.
So I got the item I was after for ~half what it would have been from Amazon US.
I think it may have been a price error as the seller only had one in stock and the next best price is $192.18, hopefully it arrives as described.
Still waiting for my gift card balance transfer from Amazon US to AU to go through.
Not to mention that Australian retailers never stock all the paper I want, I can't find 4 x 6 Luster, or if I can it's really expensive and they don't also have A4 Luster. Even huge A3+ paper on US Amazon is cheaper delivered than buying from Australia, and all the types of paper are on Amazon US.
