    Australia GST Tax Notice
    Hello,

From 1 July 2018, Australian goods and services tax (GST) 10% will apply to each order valued at A$1,000 or less, and AliExpress is required by law to collect such GST and remit to Australian Taxation Office.
For more information, please visit :
    https://www.ato.gov.au/Business/International-tax-for-busine….

    Sincerely,
    AliExpress.com

    • Yep that's the email I got. That's why you buy up now with this double cashback before it's enforced.

      • Are you really going to forward collected GST to Australian Taxation Office? Or this is another way to make extra 10%?

        • Considering the shear size of Alibaba Group and the fact that they already have an office in Australia I think we don't have to worry about that. The ATO would be targeting multinational companies so they're at the greatest risk for not complying.

        • The office in Melbourne is not responsible for Aliexpress, they are two different departments. The office in Melbourne focus on exporting Australia products to china. Not aims to help oz shopping from china. I have several times shopping experience on this platform. Some sellers will send you the wrong item and steal my money. It's very bad to shopping on Aliexpress, there is no customers warranty. Also there is no customer centre number you can called. They forbidden people to use paypal because they know some of the sellers will cheat customers though this way. They are afraid of punishment from Paypal. They force you to use credit card or alipay, though alipay is the top one payment app around the world.

@sampson: I've been using aliexpress for years and never had any problems with getting deliveries. Every delivery has arrived on time too.

Had a couple of things break due to shoddy quality, opened a dispute on Aliexpress and got a full refund both times within a day or two.

        • i have some bad experience with my order, such as the wrong colour of my item, missing parcels. Tried to discuss with the seller but they request me to return those products and dont want to pay the shipping fee. I think you are very lucky. I just explained my own experience of using aliexpress. For different customers problems are different. To be honest this platform's customer service is bad.

        • @sampson, well you would be in the minority. Two purchases two different times, ali express suppliers are thieves and that is why you cannot use PayPal.

        • -1

@Hubcap: You can't use Paypal because they own the rival AliPay who are actually larger than Paypal.

You sir are my Sunshine and Warmth on this shitty Rainy day in Melbourne =)
    Kisses for you!!

Couldn’t have seen this at a better time. Was hanging out for a win GPD 2 and this just sealed the deal before the GST Garbage kicks in tomorrow.

    Thank you kind sir

    • Haha thanks 😊

Now I'm jelly. I've been wanting the Win 2 but too tight to buy it.

      • Mate just do it. Regret it later lol
I was waiting on my original pre order to ship on Ali for $657 usd but the seller still has no stock.

Pulled the plug on the $715 one and they have stock and will ship in 2 days.

I cancelled the original purchase and an extra $58 usd really doesn’t matter plus seeing your post just made me do it. I was going to wait till later in the day to pull the plug with 5% cash back and before the GST poo rule kicks in so that’s why this is a TRUE OZ BARGAIN MOMENT to Celebrate

        Thanks to you my man

Thanks for the heads up "Clear" great find,

and just before the new Harvey Norman Tax
(Off topic, seeing as Toys R Us said that their company closing down was due to people not paying GST on overseas purchases. What a joke, Toys R Us could not even compete with Big W :-) )

    • +2

Admittedly, as a kid Toys R Us was a much fun place than Big W. Sadly, Toys R Us only has themselves to blame when they were still operating their business as if they were untouchable.

Combine this with this deal on Xiaomi Mi TV Box 3.

  • Good time to buy Mi Band 3 now? Or should I wait for English version?

  • +3

Funny how Alibaba, a Chinese company, is so quick to comply with the ATO. Yet Amazon with all it's vast AI capability can't even do this, quite clear from the beginning they intended to orphan the Aus market to their new store to charge us more because our postage system is too damn expensive.

    • Especially bleedingly obvious as just recently the USA Supreme Court has decided that all online platforms must collect US State taxes - so it aint a software issue

      • Sso is this the one world order I've been hearing about for 50 years? One global cabal enforcing its will on the whole world regardless of jurisdiction? Either way, it certainly looks like it. :)

  • Just got a bluetooth transmitter receiver. Last day to shop overseas without paying gst.

  • Just to confirm, when theres a 10% cashback it essentially means you're paying only 90% of the original price?

    • +1

You pay 100% now, you get 10% back around 3-6 mths later (depends on store)

    • Also, if you use any Seller provided coupons, I believe it may void the cashback. Best to work out if you prefer an upfront discount or a much later (few months later) 10% cashback.

      • That's not true. I used the seller's coupon with a bluetooth transmitter receiver and got 10% cashback as well.

        • It could be declined down the track though. Your transaction remains pending until Ali approve it.

Time to stock up on Lepin sets…Maybe time to pull trigger on Star Destroyer

  • I can't seem to process my order:

    Reason: System error.
Suggestion: The system is busy. Please try again.

Where to buy my potable HDD from . Can't decide to just bugger it and pick one up from JBs or Harvey; or Amazon deals are redonc - have to check this out now - gr
    r

    • -1

lol - I got negged for being indecisive?

  • Looks like WD HDD portable is a bit more $$ than even the bricks and mortar are doing. Will check out your Seagate

  • I am having issues paying for the transaction. It appears they refusing and asking me to upload my id???

  • Looking
at external HDD and it seems once you factor in USD exchange rate -much cheaper at Amazaon :(

  • -2

    and shipping 20-41 days wtf

    • +2

You're buying from China so that's expected. I wouldn't be going to AliExpress if you're looking for a hard drive.

      • What do you think of Amazon OZ?

        • +1

You'll get local warranty with Amazon AU.

        • @Clear: thanks man - makes me just trying to figure which one to pull the trigger on and whether I need to buy using multiple accounts to get $20 off from each purchase
          https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/382194

        • @Clear:Thanks really - I don't buy this sort of gear much but am in financial pooh; have had to be mobile instead of static set up - will need a larger HDD and a portable one - both with security. I think the WD is the way to go for just that reason even if no SATA.

Wondering whether to get a 2 and 4 TB or just a 1 TB from local and the 4TB
          for long term back up

        • @Clear: Yeah cheers again - almost went a 2 TB ultra and a 4TB ultra (Amazon US) but decide on the Ulta and it;s bright blue 2TB lesser cousin as the run around HD as I prefer Aussie warranties. The US version whilst cheap wasn't actually on sale anyway.
I was looking a few weeks ago and with prices as they were I was going to have to settle for 1 x 1TB; profanity, these are insanely different prices

Thanks "Clear" for anopther nice $ saving, but Sorry Gerry HARVEY, I just spent enough money at AliExpress to get the maximum value from this 10% cashback deal. I hope this does not cause the closure of all your stores, just like not paying GST on small value Chinese imports did with Toys r Us. Hang on, I don't care what Gerry thinks :-).
As Ron would say: "Eat slugs" Gerry!

  • Got fake Xiaomi headphones with one of the previous OZB deal through "authorised" seller on AliExpress. After countless emails, photos proving design differences and no QR tag, replies from Xiaomi saying they don't have seller on the list, AliExpress still went with the seller providing 0% refund just because shop (or a random Chinese guy) had some overjpg'ed scan of "authorisation letter" to sell something Xiaomi. Still using these awful-sounding headphones just because previous pair broke after 8 years.

AE can suck on a cactus with their customer disservice, all I can say now. Beware of their "authorised shops" and "buyer's protection".

  • Thanks for the post Clear, just signed up using your referral link. enjoy the $10, you earned it!

    • wait wtf lol sign up using referral it only asks for your email then gives you an account without a password, so if you sign out and you have no password to sign back in with and you cant change the password in your account because you have to enter an old password to do so, did i just find a loop in their system?

      • Well it seems to have let me still go through the forgot my password on login and reset it, still a funny process though

So, it appears that you can't use a mobile device. Ali express tells me that ,after me buying from them at least 15 times before, that now I have an abnormal account and won't verify. I can't buy anything via the site, so that's pretty pointless. If any managed to use a mobile browser, great let me know how. Preferably in the next 30mins, so o can order.

    • +1

you need to verify your account on pc, then you can use your account again. I had this problem before.

  • I used to be Aliexpress' customer. Had a few bad purchasing experiences, I will never buy anything from this website again. There is no purchasing/customer protection. Please be warned

    • I am totally agree with you, when my orders have problems i tried to find the customer services. But they only have some online chat staff. Also they cannot solve any problems. The only thing they can do is to say sorry and told me waiting for 14 business days without any solution.

  • So, what did everyone get for their last purchase?

I got an oversized mousepad 90cmx40cm and an "official" silicone case for iPhone 7.

Not much, but still something I always wanted to buy and I guess now is the time.

    • +2

I only ever buy random cheap bits and bobs off AliEx; the stuff that you don't have to worry about if it's fake or not. For me it's typically stuff like plastic cases, and basic electronics bits like switches and resistors, side cutters, etc. So on that note my last purchase was a US $1 breadboard lol. The mini ones I got ages ago are ok but overly finicky at times.

The GST thing is annoying but won't change the habit much; still cheaper than RS for basics and still far cheaper than Jaycar, the overpriced HN of the electronics world.

    • I bought some clothes, mobile accessories.

Put my purchase through at 11:58PM. Cutting it fine.

Refreshed at 12AM Eastern and GST was added.

  • I'm kinda surprised that ali agreed to collect taxes on behalf of the australian government. I sorta expected that none of these chinese websites would be willing to do it when it was announced ~2 years ago.

There seemed to be a lot of resistance coming from all e-retailers including ebay, which makes me wonder what happened during those negotiations when they delayed the taxing scheme for 1 year

    • A lot of these websites like AliExpress and Gearbest for example are owned by billion dollar companies and being in trouble with the ATO is something they can't afford.

  • Doesn't look like my cashback tracked =(

    • Was the click recorded at least? You can do a claim there.

      • Yeah, but there's multiple vendors so they all come through with separate order numbers. Much more of a pain to follow up. Is there some minimum order I had to do through a single vendor I wonder…

Anyway I'm extremely time poor atm and family stress, so it's a low priority.
