Reset Toyota Corolla Car Radio - Little Help

Hi, I have read the earlier posts on this matter,(scrimshaw and uberrider)
Neither of these worked.

The model i have is a 2009 Ascent.
Toyota want $88 to do this - no way I'm a DIY sort of guy.
The CD/radio audio side works, can play CD's, but no radio, stations are displayed, but no audio.
Had no luck with the suggested, press seek and one together etc.
There was no display prompt requesting code input.

Thanks in advance

Anything provided to you in this thread is a DIY solution, so.. pay Toyota?

    • Probably means “no way; I’m a DIY guy”

    • I mean, it's just $88. I can understand if OP is balking at say, a $200+ price which might justify basically learning how to DIY it from scratch, but for $88?

I've found that disconnecting the battery for a few minutes tends to reset the car radios. Have you tried that?

    • This should work.

      • Thanks for the replies , no go with battery disconnect.
This whole episode started with a drained battery ,recharged battery , then all this nonsense.
Sometimes the white noise is there when selecting am/fm channels , but intermittent——?
Never touched antenna connection——maybe a gremlin did——!!!!!
Audio side of things is OK
As mentioned i tried the hold "seek and 1 button" thingy , but no go.
Pinzvidz may be on the money , but this car is a company car and i have buckleys chance of extracting a red cent from the boss——-wish HighAndDry was involved he seems to splash the cash around :)
        All input welcomed—-just love DIY
        Thanks

  • Checking the connections on the rear speakers.

More likely the aerial connection has come loose if there's sound coming out with cds.

Head unit is stuffed, tell-tale is you should still hear white noise on both AM/FM off station. The 2009-2011 head units Toyota used were absolute shit anyway (terrible Bluetooth, poor sound processing).

Upgrade to a 2011 or later unit, they are a far better unit and show up on eBay fairly cheap from time to time. Plug and play for power/speakers, only require an antenna adapter (about $10-$15 from Toyota parts), and if you have steering wheel controls, a 20 pin to 28 pin harness from Toyota parts as well ($10-$15).

Toyota sizing is 200mm wide and unique, hence my suggestion of obtaining a factory replacement. Otherwise, if you fit an aftermarket unit, it needs 10mm side trims, ISO harnesses and a pocket if fitting a single DIN unit.

  • wreckers?

  • If SEC shows up on radio screen after flat/changed battery.

    Car on accessories
Hold seek ^ and number 1 button down and 3 - - - should show up.
A dealer told me all corollas have 986 preset
Input numbers then hold scan button in until SEC shows up again.

    Radio should now turn on

    • Dealer is talking through their arse. The code is optional and not set at PD, it's up to the customer whether they wish to set it or not and can be whatever random number.
