FYI not well reviewed on the below website which assess the quality of dog food based on its ingredients / feedback from users.

Great Oz made premium dry food

There is nothing premium about it.

EOFY deal 15kg bag for $75 instead of $119.

Why would anyone pay that when for not much more you could get better quality?

  • Negged, first ingredient is wheat. Canidae/Ivory Coat and other better alternatives out there.

My rule of thumb for dry Dog food - if the first ingredient is cereal or wheat based, put it back. The first ingredient of this stuff is "Wholegrain wheat and or sorghum". Might as well buy homebrand.

FWIW, I recently switched over to a raw food diet for our dogs - pet mince from a butcher (leftovers, offal, bit of fat) mixed with bagged frozen veggies (thawed) and a small brisket bone.

    I used this as a rough guide - https://honeysrealdogfood.com/feeding-adult-dogs/

Pet mince is $2/kg, veggies are $1.60/kg from Coles and the brisket bones are $6/kg (also from Coles but haven't checked pricing at butcher yet). It ends up being cheaper than the premium dry dog foods.

We have gone raw also. We do BARF from big dog and our own recipe based on this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7P85BMCCboI

I often mince chicken drumsticks for our dogs. Combined with offal of various sorts and it works out cheap and nutritious.

How much do you pay per kg for Barf?

        • ~ $7-$8 bucks a KG . Google Big Dog Barf and you will see the varieties

Raw is the way to go people! Another great resource is https://perfectlyrawsome.com/dogs/raw-feeding-transition-gui…

    • Thanks for the links Stix and Metric! I've never fed raw because I've found it too daunting. Love the Perfectly Rawsome one which breaks it down according to your dog's weight.

Raw food is great just stay away from chicken.

I only feed my dogs cooked food. Note that several other foods may cause paralysis in dogs including things like macadamias.

I don't believe there is anything wrong with chicken and the link you provided is a hypothesis and not definitive or proven.

This comment further eroded any credibility:

We recommend owners choose regular dog food

Countless more dogs have been killed and seriously injured from "regular" dog food.

Just recently over 70 dogs were permanently maimed from commercial food.

  • Not a bargain?

How am I to joke "Dinner. Sorted" Now?

  • Who doesn't junk food? Doesnt mean its healthy! This thing is pure crap..
