Not sure what the best deal for the dsi XL is at the moment but the Nintendo 3DS console will be launched at the end of March. Had a quick look and BigW have a preorder package for 3DS for $348 (http://www.bigw.com.au/pre-orders/3DS), which includes a starter kit and 3d game. Might be able to get a better deal for the XL if you argue that "a newer model will be out soon".
