eBay Plus Membership - Restocking Fee's & Returns on Used Items

Hello,

Spoke with an eBay rep and they advised that even though it doesn't state anywhere to the public, their 'internal' policy does cover restocking fee's, but you have to contact eBay to initiate the refund of the fee.

&

For returning an item that is used, it isn't covered if it's for a 'change of mind', is that right?

I wanted to buy x2 variants of a specific peripheral and return back the one I disliked, and this is what had excited me in the first place about this new eBay+ Membership, but if it is just for faulty products, or items you have not yet opened then changed your mind the what's the point of the membership?

You need to consult the seller whether they accept return of used item. Most sellers won't accept used item.

why would an ebay seller want your used item back? even if eBay did cover the returns, the value of the item has plummeted. It only covers the return policy specified by the seller. They're obliged to return your item either way if it is faulty. It's only beneficial if you happen to change your mind once you've received the item. Could be useful if it was an impulse purchase or you've found a cheaper price elsewhere by the time you've received the item.

The main reason people would be drawn towards eBay Plus is the fact that eBay Plus items have free shipping if there is a postage cost associated, not because of the free returns.

    • No I know the item would devalue of course it's just what I had thought the membership offers, I guess I misunderstood.

Like apparently it's a thing in US with phones for example? buy something now, not happy? Return for full refund yadayada, I interpreted this service being along the lines of that sort of thing.

      • I think eBay Plus is just shipping related (free shipping, free returns, etc) and special eBay Plus only deals.

Not sure about the US thing. But I generally don't think US-style consumerism is something to emulate anyway. Apparently buying a car with cash (not financing it) is apparently unheard of there. Financing a car for a normal person (not novated lease, not small business owner, etc) is madness.

I never got this. What do you expect the seller to do with the now opened, no-longer-new second item?
