Fwiw, no sane person would pay that RRP. Still a great deal though 👍

    • +1

      God no.

    • but most cyclists are insane though :P yay neg away ;)

    • The normal price of these is probably around 75-85 for a pair from wiggle.

  • Great deal.

  • Super deal! 2 tyres and tubes for less than the price of 1 tyre locally!
Do we need to order before 1 July to avoid GST?

    • +1

Good point, From the DHA website:

From 1 July 2018, the Goods and Services Tax (GST) may apply to low value goods when imported from overseas by consumers in Australia. However, the GST will be charged at the point of sale and not at the border.

      • And good luck to the Australian government to enforce this and collect the money.

  • How do I get the deal? It's showing me 62.99 pounds, thanks

    • +1

Link still shows $59 for me, try changing country and pricing to AU on the top right.

      • Thanks :)

  • +1

Keeps charging me for postage even though it says it's free…

    • same .

      • +1

I had to bring my total to $80 to qualify for free shipping, not sure where it’s saying free for you guys. Sorry.

      • Added a note about shipping to the post. Thanks guys.

  • Any other discount codes to use with this deal?

    • I ordered 2x of these for free shipping and used GETTHERE18 to make it $100.59.

      • +7

I'll see your order and raise you: I ordered 2x of these for free shipping and used GETTHERE20 to make it $99.97, and cashrewards if applicable :)

        • Read your comment just as I was paying, good thing I could cancel, thanks!

        • +2

Thanks @davowade and @cryptos. Bought the Continental pack, plus 1 x Lab Series Multi-Action Face Wash 100ml and 1 x Cinelli Gel Cork Bar Tape. Total out of pocket was $86.19 including free shipping.

        • +1

I gave 'GETTHERE20' a try but only got 'Sorry, this offer is for new customers only'.
I got the same with 'GETTHERE18' as well. :(

Bad news for the long term Wigglers with the codes, but all good with Cash Rewards.

        • +1

          @NatDan:
          Make a new account…

  • +1

    2.45% cashrewards perhaps?

  • God damn that is cheap.

Places in Perth sell ONE GP 4000 for that price alone.

  • +1

Used to ride with these before going tubeless. Great deal! My LBS once told me they stopped stocking these tyres because there was so many online deals for them and they couldn't buy them wholesale for the price they were selling for online! They couldn't make a $$ out of them so they stopped stocking them!

    • +1

What tubeless do you use? Pro Ones?

      • Yep Schwalbe Pro One!!

  • +2

God damn the price is only for the 25's I ride 28's.

  • Amazing price for amazing tires. Was on these before for a year and a half before I lost them to multiple flats.

If I haven't bought new ones already (went with sturdier and more flat-resistant tires this time), I would have went for these.

  • Ripper price and note that 25s are the hardest size to find due to trend for fatter rubber.

    • -1

But fatter means more rolling resistance.

      • +10

I won't start this debate but let's just say not necessarily!

      • +1

Nope, fatter is lower at same psi. Look it up.

      • +1

Less rolling resistance with wide rims on real world roads. More comfort.
        Worse aero, more weight.

The current trend is that the benefits outweigh the negatives.
Do need suitable rims though and clearance issues with many rim brakes.

        • -1

Thanks guys, I googled it and understand now.

Nice find OP, great tyres. Also at 99 Bikes for $58 each or 2 for $109

    • I have bought 2 pairs for almost the same as 99 Bikes for 1. Free shipping with 2 pairs.

    • That is 1 pair for $109, this is 1 pair for $60. Big difference

  • Hi, possible stupid question but my current tyre says 23c, so I can't use these ones on them? Cheers

    • Still can, they're just a little wider. Good for slightly rougher terrain and modern wheel shapes can be better suited to 25s but depends on what ya run.

      • ^This^. It's a bit hard to tell without knowing what clearance you have with brakes and frame. I upgraded my bike from 23 to 25mm, it's probably a 2011.

      • +1

I have a boardman from this deal.

        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/340902

Still a relative noob when it comes to this, so definitely appreciated it. Thanks

        • You just need to check the clearance between the tyre and the frame at the fork and seat stay. If you have say 5-6mm either side then you should be fine. I have a different Boardman and could probably run up to 28mm tyres on it.

    • +2

this measurement relates to how wide the tyres are. As long as your forks and seat says aer wide enough to have a slightly wider tyre fitted you should be OK to go from 23 to 25.

      • Thanks for your help, learnt something there, bought and if they don't fit I will just give em to my mate.

    • You will definitely be able to run 25s

  • Very nice find OP. These roll fast and have excellent puncture resistance.

    • Just not on the sidewall, as I found out to my cost.

  • I paid $100 for a pair few months ago. This is a super deal.

Oh, couldn't recommend more this one. The best rubber you can get.

  • Seems like its available on the .au site as well - http://www.wiggle.com.au/continental-2-grand-prix-4000s-ii-2…

Is there any difference in buying from the .uk or .au sites?

    • Don't think so, most of the stock still comes from the UK i believe.

  • I could be wrong but buying from the au website might negate international credit card transaction fees?

  • +2

I suggest buy now as wiggle tend to change their price daily.

    • CRC often follow as soon as Wiggle ends.
      Same company playing games.

  • Attempted to buy. But i don't need them right now. Just how long would these tyre be good in storage? I think rubber do degrade with time especially in the warm weather here.

    • +2

There's no guarantee that when you are ready to buy that it hasn't been sitting in the warehouse of the manufacturer or retailer for some time aswell.

  • +1

Go through aus site and use code GETTHERE20 to receive $20 off purchase over $100 for new accounts.
The Aeron bib shorts are excellent value for $63 to get the discount, usually sit at about $90 and are just as good as any high end brand IMO. Still commute in a pair >6years old. http://www.wiggle.com.au/dhb-aeron-bib-shorts/

    • These are my favourite bibs :D

Easily up there with the pairs 3x the price

  • Currently ride on 28C. Not really my forte so can anyone advise if I can fit 25Cs on my rims? Still 700s.

    • +2

These tyres are much wider for the size. 25mm is measure at 28 and 28mm is measure at 31. I am using 28mm and they are huge.

      • Depends on the rim. Google the min/max widths for it.

      • Thanks. So for future info, as long as they are the same rim diameter, width is only an issue if I go wider? (I.e. as long as they fit in the forks?) Edit: My rims are Giant S-R2.

        • No, there will definitely be a range but these are standard road wheels so you'll have no issue with 25s.

Eg 29ers = 700c but there is no chance you can run 25s on them.

        • @frbargain:
Most 29er rims are 17 to 19 mm. So most can take a 25 mm tire

      • The 25C is 26.5mm on my C24s.

  • Thanks OP

  • Thanks OP
    Good find
    Cheers :-)

  • what a great price.

Fwiw these are a high performance tyre. Contrary to any comments made above the puncture resistance is "good" for a high performance tyre but come no where close to something like a schwable durano or marathon.

They also roll fast. Which means they have no tread. Bit of moisture and oil around a corner is a recipe for a crash.

If you are a commuter I suggest you pass on these and get something more durable and grippy. Schwable Durano Plus is my recommendation. I recommend against gatorskins, they are worse in wet.

I ride about 5000km a year for the last 5-6 years and all the punctures but one I've had have been on 4000s tyres. The other puncture i copped was a pinch flat when I hit a pot hole at relatively high speed.

    • Fair enough, you buy the tyres that suit your conditions. I found I had less flats with the GPs than I had with vittoria tyres, but if I had a commuter bike i'd go back to schwalbe marathon or similar.

    • As a communter i agree. I got the marathon plus one 4 years ago and never have had a puncture since (about 5000km a year)

Although I've had more problems with broken spokes.,

    • Only time I fell off a bike was on 28mm gatorskins in the wet. Yes, they are near bulletproof but they also have not much traction either…

    • It really depends on where you ride. As a regular commuter myself, I know where all the pot holes and debris are, so I am more prepared to avoid these areas.

For most roads in Sydney, my experience is that you won't need sidewall protection. And if you are riding on sealed roads, I believe you won't need any "tread" as research has shown tread makes very little difference to grip.

So for me, the GP-4000SII works well because I have sufficient puncture protection and they are lightweight and roll fast, meaning I get to work quicker (my commute is 20km each way).

      • Yep, each to their own :) I found that tiny glass shards shredded my GPs and were often the cause of flats especially when wet.

I'd rather get to work a bit slower knowing that my chance of getting a flat is minimal. Having said that the other week a loose cord got wrapped up in my freewheel that it wouldn't move and I had to carry my bike back home - luckily it wasn't too far from home when it happened!

        • Watch for plastic bags too. When they get stuck in disc rotors and brakes, you won't be getting anywhere fast!

    • I'd recommend these in 28 mm for the front on a commuting bike. Very fast and very grippy.. and reasonably puncture resistant. For the back I run 35 mm Durano though 32 mm Gators are also a great choice for the back.
As for these 4000s tires, the sidewalls always blow when you've still got half your tread.
As noted above tread does f all. It's usually there as a poor substitute for a good compound. I associate tread with cheap tires with dangerously poor compound. Always go with a slick tire

  • Thanks. Have bought my last pair ($94.98) from Wiggle in April. Can't help ordering another at this price!

  • Ah isnt this for one tyre? i.e $59.99 for 1 right?

    • 2 Tyres and 2 tubes.

Just wondering if these would fit on the ALDI crane bike? And would there be any point?
    Thanks

    • +3

Is that the Aldi Crane road bike? (this: https://www.bicycles.net.au/2016/07/review-aldi-crane-road-b…)

If yes, then yes they will fit fine.

These tyres would also be a very good upgrade.

The Kenda tyres it came with were heavy and pretty average.

You might need some tyre levers to get the old tyres off as they were wire bead from memory. If you haven't changed a bike tyre before there are plenty of youtube videos.

      • Cheers!

    • +2

I have the ALDI Crane Bike also and replaced the tyres the day I bought it to these. Well worth the upgrade

  • Posted link now showing price at $114

    • Not for me

      • I still see $59.99 too. Different browser?

  • Cheers.
Had to hand over $90 for a standard Gatorskin a few weeks ago. This deal is much better.
Went via AUS store, got a backpack, brake pads, chain and the tyres & tubes all for $150 (+Cashrewards (hopefully))
Left them a note asking for 60mm valves, will wait and see how that goes.

    • F*%$ers cancelled my order. Didn't email me about it, I had to log in and view my order. Sent inquiry form about it and got email back stating "the order was cancelled by our Processing team due to pricing error".
      We are now 'negotiating'.

  • Thanks just purchased 2.

  • Insanely Cheap, thanks so much OP.

  • +1

    Now out of stock :(

    Thanks for posting though.

  • Nooo, OOS, removed from cart as I was paying!!

  • +2

Order was just cancelled by Wiggle - PayPal refund. Looks like could have been a pricing error!

    EDIT
Just chatted to the online Wiggle Customer Team, orders will be cancelled " … as there was a pricing error, sorry about this. If the goods are still required we kindly suggest placing the order again"

    • +1

I feel your pain, oh fellow cyclist. What a shame. This would have been an amazing deal. Did you only buy the tyres, or did you have something else in your order too?

      • @nortyjak I'm not surprised that the order was cancelled given the price however am surprised it took little time for Wiggle to action the refunds. I had bought a few other bibs and bobs but nothing I can't do without! What about you, will not having these tyres stop you from jumping on the steed for a ride?

        • Nope, I am addicted, just like you it seems! Ride safe. :)
