Logitech G29 (PS4/PC) - $349 @ JB Hi-Fi

60

Have been looking for a good deal on these, it was $369 yesterday on JB, has been/is lower on ebay etc, but perhaps if anyone wants to buy from a store this could be good.

I wonder if they can reduce the price any further in store if you ask?

    Shame PS4 doesn't support this.
Hmmm reminds me to put my G25 up for sale on gumtree.

This one is for the ps4.

    • +1

This is the PS4/PC version :-) - have updated title to avoid confusion with G920.

    • This is the PS4 version.

I wonder if fluidtek have these on sale?

    • +1

Oh nice!!! I just checked their ebay store and I had a voucher that brought the wheel and shifter to $355!

  • +2

Buy a Thrustmaster T300 instead, it's a much better wheel at a similar price point. The G29 feels like a toy in comparison, I owned a G29 first and after two breakdowns I took the advice of other sim racers and refunded it and bought the Thrustmaster wheel. The G29 uses plastic gears, it is clunky and noisy because of this whereas the Thrustmaster uses pulleys and is a much stronger build with a more realistic and stronger force feedback.

    • Where can I get the t300 for $349 or similar?

      • I think I paid $400? at JB just before Xmas.

        • +2

          $599 right now. Thanks though…..

        • @OnlinePred: I just checked and I actually paid $480 anyway. My bad, still I'd recommend throwing the extra cash at it if you can afford to.

        • +1

@Where's_That_Cake: It's something that many people don't keep or use much past a certain amount of time/use. So it's not worth splurging on something this expensive if you don't know how much you will use it. If you are upgrading your old wheel, then yea go Thrustmaster for sure.

I have never owned a wheel, so I don't know how much I will use it, it's therefore not cost effective to buy a $500 unit - $150 more. I could buy a wheel stand for that.

Ideally I want to spend around $250, but there isn't much there for that, except second hand. So this wheel for this price is me splurging already haha

        • @OnlinePred: actually I'd also recommend the T150 GT edition over the G29 which should be same price as this

        • @OnlinePred:

If you're playing any of the GT series without a wheel you're doing it wrong.

        • +1

@BlinkyBill: GT is a glorified ice driving game, not really into it. Controller is just as good when driving around on ice. Getting it for DIRT Rally, Project Cars, Asseta Corsa etc then FM3 on PC for relaxed arcade driving.

HN just lowered their prices too

    $328!!!

It's been as low as 300 with a gear shifter at JB around Christmas. They also had a seperate deal where you got Forza for the same price. Its the cheapest entry level force feedback wheel so if youre after something a bit more quality i'd go a TMX pro or T150 simply for the better force feedback and more life like design.

    • Yep we have a T300 at work, and it's amazing. T150 is still too expensive and the pedals have had a very bad wrap in reviews and user opinions. I couldn't find any deals like that on ozbargain - the best being dick smith at $279 for the wheel only. Also T150 only has two pedals at the $350 price range - also it's mostly inferior in a few ways.

        • $399 (almost $60 more than HN G29 price) - and a rubber wheel, very weak FF, questionable reliability, plastic pedals, lower resolution.

Also for that price you can get the G29 with a shifter.

I understand that people have something against Logitech, but it's a great entry level wheel with many positives against it, under $400 it's the best wheel and shifter set you can buy. Given the cheap materials used on all entry level Thrustmasters, it's also a hard buy spending so much and getting plastic and rubber wheels and pedals and even plastic gear padels!

        • -2

@OnlinePred: it's not something against them it's the fact that you're buying a G25 with a new security chip. It's very old tech and it's not better than a T150 mate. Take it from someone who has owned wheels for years and uses them regularly. Anyway I can see you've settled on a G29 but this is handy for those who have not.

        • +1

@Where's_That_Cake: it's old tech, bit it still works and is very reliable. We have t300 at work with H shifter and upgraded pedals, it's worth $700+, it's amazing and I want it, but at $400 there is no Thrustmaster to compete against g29. If you have more money then definitely buy the t300 and also buy the shifter and updated pedals, but never recommend the t150 as it's inferior to both - you can't even change the plastic wrapped wheel on the T150 - of which it's dual drive with belt and mechanical. Also keep in mind you may need to replace the belts as they wear out, our T300 has had it done twice as the FF becomes so weak after much use due to physical belts loosening. It cost $150 each time to replace the belts. You can perhaps see now why you might choose and recommend the G29 to entry level buyers I hope.

FYI I am looking at buying the G29 with Shifter for $355 off ebay, and then a used stand for $80 off gumtree. Imagine what I am getting for the price compared to the T150 only.

        • -1

@OnlinePred: So imagine how many times yor office would need to have a G29 repaired mate because I had 2 breakdown within 3 months. The shifter btw is a plastic clunky toy, I had several friends all me to turn my mic off whilst using it as it made so much noise.

For $250 more than you're paying you can get a T300 GT edition and a Next Level Racing wheel stand from JB Hi-fi. They'll sell them bundled for $700, many of us at WP have had them at this price.

        • @Where's_That_Cake: Office next door has had their G25 for 8 years, replaced with G920 that has been going for almost 3.5 years. This thing is used weekly btw. With the lack of belts and metal components I don't see why you would say they breakdown more? Our T300 has had it's belt replaced twice, at the cost of a whole G29 in less than a year. (mind you they also have a T500 + TH8A that has lasted more than a year with no issues, and is amazing).

Also please tell me where I can get a bundle with T300 RS + TH8A and stand for $680!!!!!!! I will buy and resell! You know that for $280 I can buy a whole G29 without shifter right?

          What's WP?

        • @OnlinePred: I said they breakdown more because I had 2 breakdown within 3 months as I mentioned above.

I didn't mention a TH8A with that stand, no idea where you got that but from.

          WP is Whirlpool

        • @Where's_That_Cake: the Logitech comes with a gear shifter, also according to most users, the t300 breaks down far more. Also going by experience the office nextdoor has had with theirs, it would seem the g29 is far more reliable, and you just got unlucky.

        • @OnlinePred: You're a little off with your info here mate, the first run of T300's had issues a few years back but since then they've gotten over these teething issues. I'm only going by other users in the biggest Australian online racing community that I've been a member of for years though so some one eyed googling might fetch up the results you're looking for ;)

        • @Where's_That_Cake: so how do you know if you get the new fixed ones? Also the internet is bigger than your Australian racing group btw lol

        • @OnlinePred: Well Australian users may give you an idea of how much old stock is out there (in Australia) if you think about it.
Anyway there's an easy way to ensure newer stock, buy the GT Edition. Otherwise there are other telltales if you google it. Also here's a quick vote you could checkout on another sim racing forum discussing whether to buy a Logitech or a T300 https://forum.sector3studios.com/index.php?threads/need-help… that was literally the first one that came up in my Google search.
Read the comments in there and you'll find they mirror my own on how noisy and poor the G's are in comparison. That was all that I was trying to explain, it's gotten out of hand though and hopefully you don't have issues with yours. Enjoy it and if you want good clean racers to compete with and learn from try out http://raceonoz.com/forums

        • @Where's_That_Cake: I completely understand, but you, like many others, are failing to see reason in price which blows my mind. If I want to spend max $400, then the G29 is the best wheel to buy full stop. I'm not going to throw in another $400 to get a T300RS GT and a shifter, even if it's better, it's double the cost.

I understand people will always say "spend more to get a better product" etc etc, but it really doesn't help anyone when they do this. The T300 is VERY expensive in Australia, and if you only want a decent wheel, you should not in any circumstances buy one. In the U.S, they are basically the same price, which is why there are so many comparisons around, and yes, in most scenarios the T300 is better.

That link you sent, the first post said he sent back his G29 and bought a T500. Just so you know, he is saying he took back his $300 wheel, and bought a $1200 wheel - equiv in Australia. This is how out of touch these communities are. It's common sense that if I buy a far more expensive product, I would assume it's better. That's obvious. When someone is buying a house and set a budget of $1 million dollars, do you tell them that they shouldn't buy that house, and instead spend $2million on a better house as they are better?

Think of it this way, I can't afford to spend $400 on a wheel. I went on gumtree and bought a G29 with shifter and a stand for $250. For that price I could get a used T80 and a stand, would you honestly recommend me do that over getting a g29? The experience I am getting is a good wheel, with shifter and pedals all setup on a stand, is this not a win for the online racing community? It's better than a PS4 controller - and guess what, when/if I feel like I have outgrown it, I can upgrade and get a Fanatec or T500.

        • @OnlinePred: The t500 isn't a $1200 wheel, I have one. It's a $800 wheel.
The worst part about the G29 is by far the shifter, you can't compare the $50 G shifter to the $250 TH8A. If you just put the wheels against eachother the price difference is way less. You're also comparing your cheapest price you can find a G29 against the RRP of a T300 do not really fair right?

        • @Where's_That_Cake: HN have g29 for $328 + $55 shifter. T300 starts at $499 best deal I could find and does not come with shifter.

At least it has a shifter though right? I use the TH8A shifter from nextdoor at work and it is amazing. Way too expensive for me though.

But you are at it again, comparing a $50 shifter to a $200 shifter. Comparing a $380 package to a $700 package.

          I can't even get a t150 with a shifter for under $400 lol.

You are trying to compare a sub $400 package to a sub $1000 package.

        • @OnlinePred: but again, you can't compare the shifters. On a totally different level and the price of the TH8A is extremely high. It hurts me to pay that for it. I'm not sure why you think I'm comparing the shifters as they are in no way comparable. I'm comparing a $500 wheel to a $350 wheel. Not the shifters, not a second hand no name stand to a Next Level stand.
You got the best wheel you could afford and second hand so even better price. Good on ya. Brrmm brrmm!

      • +1

You can get a t150 pro or tmx pro for $350 from techbuy. T300 is also cheaper there than at JB.

I've done allot of research into the sub $1000 level wheels and although i agree logitechs FFB is amazingly strong compared to thrustmasters. 1 thing that bugged me coming from previous generations of logitechs FFB wheels was the very obvious 5-10 degrees of force feedback deadzone in either direction when the wheel is centered.

Go down a bumpy straight in any racing game using a logitech G29. Do you feel any vibrations?
Go over a jump do you feel any bite in the steering when the car wheels hit the ground?
How about any feedback to the wheel when youre braking into a bumpy zone with the wheel straight?

In my research on youtube videos and forum posts it seems a few people have also highlighted this as a drawback of the G29.

Personally i wouldnt be buying tmx150/tmx pro and g29/g920 unless they were as low as $250. The G29 to me looks like a ripoff of logitechs driving force GT which retailed for $150. Even the discounted prices are currently overpriced imho. My money for the smart buyers would be with something like the fanatec CSL elite or T300/t500/tgt. Sadly however thats way beyond peoples budgets.

        • Yep, sub$400 the g29 is the only real option, given the t150 and t300 have such weak FF they are all mostly not that great under $1k. T150 having plastic pedals, padels, and a rubber wheel doesn't feel good at all.

Techbuy is still:$566 for the t300. This is why the value buy is the g29, leather wheel, shifter, metal padels, metal pedals for the price of a t150 without a shifter.

Also what racing game do you not turn at all on a straight? There's always some degree of turning to correct for movement at high speed.

        • +2

Hey mate in case you are looking at wheels, I think you should also know that most of the reviews etc you are looking at are U.S based, where the T150 costs less than the G29, and the T300RS GT is roughly the same price as the G29. In Australia, Thrustmaster pricing is terrible. The T150 is a budget wheel, while the T300 and G29 are mid rangers, the T500/fanatec are high end. Many reviewers take the price into consideration when comparing the T300 and G29, given in Australia you can get a G29 with shifter for $350, while a t300 wheel only will cost upwards of $500, there is no real comparison unless you are set on swapping the steering wheels or buying a very expensive shifter. The same setup of a T300 in australia with a shifter is over $600.

This is a big issue with wheels, as there are many stupid people out there that tell others not to buy the G29 as it's old tech etc etc etc, and just spend some more money to buy T300/T500. This isn't an option for many, and you will compromise the end result and experience you get. For the price of a single T300 (compared directly against G29) with a shifter, you can get a G29 with shifter + a $250 stand and seat. This is a MUCH better setup for the money. And we are on OZBARGAIN here by the way.

Anyway hopefully you can understand, that although there are better options, there are always better options, and budget is what limits choices. You won't go tell someone looking at a mazda 3 to consider a bmw 3 series - it makes no sense price wise.

          T150 is crap compared to G29 and T300: http://psracingpro.com/thrustmaster-t150-review-ps3-ps4-pc/

          http://psracingpro.com/logitech-g29-review-ps3-ps4/

So yea, T300 is slightly better, but almost double the cost, so for most money is better spent elsewhere.

Here is G29 for $200 shipped with shifter btw: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Logitech-G29-Driving-Force-Racin…

        • @OnlinePred:
          Yea some great points.

Personally im not really excited for any racing sims that are in circulation. Dirt 4 and Rally have been played to death by me before my previous wheel died. Which is why im unlikely to commit to any wheel purchase unless i saw a really good discount (sub $250aud).

Im waiting for the release news of Unreal engine 4 update of Raceroom from Simbin/sector3. A new Dirt Rally game could also lure me into purchasing a $300+ wheel.

I'd love if someone done a reboot of logitechs driving force GT for sub $200. That would instantly get my money. As right now the racing games on offer dont give me enough lasting playtime to justify spending over $300.

        • @IronOrchard: Yea I agree. I held off on playing Dirt Rally, FH3 and FM7, waiting for a wheel to play them with, so I'm looking forward to that. I have GT sport on PS4 but not a big fan of it. Also have Project cars 1 & 2 I only started playing.

Just bought a used G29 + shifter + frame for $275, picking up later this week so super pumped!!!

You def won't be able to get a thrustmaster for less than your $300 though, so that sucks.

  • +2

I would not say $349 is a deal on this IMO

    • Yep as I posted, hn lowered to $328, and eBay $355 for wheel and shifter

  • I just rememebred this wheel also sees frequent deals on sale for $329 at MSY..
At boxing day sales they had it for just $300

    • $328 from Harvey right now.

      • IT australia has it listed for $385 - 10% (PUNCHY) = $346.50. This is the package with wheel & shifter. Link here:
        https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Logitech-G29-Driving-Force-Wheel…
HN is probably the cheapest with shifter if you have AMEX deal on your card. ($328+$55) - $50 = $333. Tried to get HN online to price match ebay $346.50 but no luck. Might get it from HN on amex.

BTW, great discussion you got going here @OnlinePred. You almost convinced me to buy it :-)

        • +1

Yea I fired it up on PC dirt rally and it was so much better than Xbox controller!!!! I went from finding it hard to not go off the track, to be able to focus on times.

          Thanks is mate!
