Book publisher Phaidon are well known for publishing some pretty amazing cookbooks/coffee table books. In addition to actual cookbooks that home cooks might find useful, they also publish books by a number of famous chefs, including Rene Redzepi, Massimo Bottura, and even our very own Dan Hunter. For these "cookbooks", it is unlikely that many people will actually cook using these recipes, given the the skills, equipment, and exotic produce required. However, they make for great coffee table books with their amazing photographs.
Phaidon are currently having a sale (with free shipping) on many of their books and the prices for some are even better than the lowest found on Booko
I've only looked at the cookbooks but here are some of the best deals I've found:
D.O.M. Rediscovering Brazilian Ingredients by Alex Atala - $17.99 delivered (cheapest on Booko is $42.90) more a coffee table book for most home cooks
Vegetables from an Italian Garden - $14.99 delivered (cheapest on Booko is $38.50)
China: The Cookbook - $29.98 delivered (cheapest on Booko is $42.90) nice collection of recipes from different regions in China
The Art of French Baking - $24.98 delivered (cheapest on Booko is $36.15)
Books on art, architecture, and design also discounted but definitely check Booko first before purchasing.
Good find. But for people who are serious about cooking, it's worth keeping in mind that Phaidon's cookbooks are very patchy: often poorly proofed (e.g. ingredients missing from recipes), sometimes volume instead of weight measures, and frequently impressive in their presentation/promise but not necessarily better than existing books.
I always check reviews on Amazon and Goodreads before deciding whether a Phaidon cookbook is worth considering.
