[WA] Recommend a good couch and/or store

Hi all,

I'm looking at buying a new lounge suite and need some recommendations and reports of bad experiences.

Most critical factor is comfort. It's easy to try a couch in store for a minute and think it's comfortable but if you spend a few hours on it it'll cripple you with back pain.

Willing to spend up to $7k. Probably a 6 seater with corner(4+2) or 4 seater with settee. Configuration is flexible so that could be +/- 1 or 2 seats. Recliner would be nice but not a deal breaker. Undecided on material.

There's plenty of places to buy from in Perth but hopefully you can help narrow down the list.

Cheers

Nick Scali has some good deals and good quality stuff. Basically just need to cruise around Osborne Park on Scarborough Beach rd and take a look t a few different shops.

  • if you dont mind secondhand, you can grab a bargain 9 times out of 10

I initially used + and - to indicate positive and negative comments. However, these are interpreted as indented bullets so I have use P and M instead.

    Possible selection criteria:

    • Depth of base and height above ground

M Important for short people so their legs don't stick out or don't reach ground.

    • Angle of base and back

M Most seat bases are flat but some go down at back which makes it difficult for old or short people to get out of them.

M If seat back goes back too far may be uncomfortable and difficult to get out of.

    • Softness of base

M If seat is too soft people sink into them and have difficulty getting out.

    • Triple seaters should have 1 or 3 cushions, not 2 which force middle person to sit on gap between cushions. Over time gap will increase.

    • Armrest width

M Some lounge suites have excessively wide arms that waste space.

P They only need to be wide enough for elbow to rest comfortably.

    • Armrest material

M Some armrests are made of wood or don't have enough padding which causes elbows to become very painful after a short time (like Tigerair solid armrests that need a jumper over them to pad them).

    • Armrests could have drink holders or flat plate area or at least flat enough to "safely" rest plate on.

P Useful for placing drinks or food plates on.

M Mustn't interfere with where elbow rests.

    • Long enough to sleep on

    • Space under couch

    P Useful for storing stuff.

M One more place that has to be cleaned.

PP Drawers in base make use of otherwise wasted space.

    • Legs should beyond reach of bare toes or if they are reachable they should be rounded.

    • Base of legs should be large enough so they don't dig into timber floorboards.

    • Material

P Leather should be better wearing.

M "Plastic" stretches and cracks/tears over time.

P Both don't absorb drinks or stain, as easily.

M Both are hot and sweaty in summer and cold in winter.

P Cloth seats feel cool in summer and warm in winter.

M They absorb drinks and stain easily.

    • Colour

M White and light colours show grime and stains.

    • Thanks for the comprehensive list! Your points regarding short people equally apply to tall people. I'm quite tall and I sink into our current couch.

    • M Important for short people so their legs don't stick out or don't reach ground.

      Should be:

M Important for short people so their legs don't stick out or don't not reach ground.

    • Shouldn't have wooden frame that you can hit if you sit in "wrong" place.
  • I went to Plush and have been incredibly happy with the purchase.

Got the Cooper for $3k (50% off $6k). Everyone finds spots that are comfy for them.

The follow up service was also impressive.
