Need a cheap projector for movies

The appartment I just moved into has a surround sound system hooked up and a mounted projector screen. Been thinking of getting one anyway since everything is alread y so conviently installed. Been doing some research and found that there are large variances in prices for them and was wondering if a 200$ ebay one is sufficient cause i don't feel like forking out 2k on something i'll use once in a while. Will use the projector for just movies. Budget is just an indication cause i would rather pay a couple more $ for a better viewing experience but not an absurd about cause why else would i be on ozbargain, Thanks guys!

Update: the projector must have what i beleive is called a trigger point because there is a preinstalled screen.

I would recommend you to visit GearBest they have some nice projectors listed in 200-300$ range. I am eyeing on alfawise x and cheerlux 760.

    • So i've checked out gear best and found that none of them actually contain a trigger point so that I can simultanously roll down the projector screen. Is it just uncommon between that price range?

Most of the $200-300 units are pure junk. LED lamps don't give you that big, high contrast picture and most are not even native 1080p.

I'd be looking for a 1080p DLP projector with at least 3000 Lumens (more if possible). Generally cheaper on import (~US$500+) since the local stores are rip off merchants.

the cheap no-brand models on Gearbest and similar are dim, low-res models and you won't have an enjoyable viewing experience at all with them. for $600-800 you could probably find a decent entry level home theatre projector imported from US (BenQ, Optoma and Epson all have popular entry-level models), else for under $500 you might be able to find something decent secondhand, which is what I'm currently trying to do.

for $200 the best thing you could probably do is a secondhand 720p/WXGA business projector, which won't have the contrast and pop of a home theatre projector but at least it'll easily be brighter than a Gearbest no-name. if you are going secondhand just make sure the projector is a recent enough model to have a HDMI port.

  • Who likes to watch video at home? I can offer you a good option http://bestrobotsguide.com/pocket-projectors. He is like me. I look at it all, and am very glad that it is small, comfortable and beautiful, many of my friends have already bought them
