Men’s winter jacket - good quality but not very expensive

Hi,

Am looking for a good men’s winter jacket on sale around $100-$200 but very good quality. Can someone please advise a good place in Melbourne to but these? Gazman currently have a sale but not sure how the quality is. Kathmandu also have some jackets but they seem to be quite overpriced anyways.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Presty.

    Just buy a coat?

Wool coat from an english menswear brand like ctshirts or tmlewin will last you decades

    • This.

      Buy something decent quality.

    • As long as you select a timeless design.

My main Sydney coat has been going for about 10 years… It'll probably need replacement in the next year or two.

    uniqlo

    • Yep. Uniqlo have good affordable coats that are generally of a classic style.

    What is it for?
    Formal, casual, high-vis, business wear?

Since you mention Kathmandu I'll assume you're after something down, lightweight and not too formal.

Check out uniqlo - they have a good variety of coats http://www.uniqlo.com/au/store/men/outerwear/view-all-outerw… . I personally have a wool / down blend for when I'm in the office.

If I'm working on site I use a cheap Aldi down I picked up for $50. Warm, lightweight and does what I need it to.

Kathmandu is overpriced unless you buy on their half price, then subtract some off that again. And even then, it still might be overpriced. Uniqlo is probably the same, but at least they don't claim that their original price of a jacket is $800, then $400, and now $199.

    • Looking for something semi formal which can be worn for work and also for an occasional casual event too.

      • For something semi formal, that can be casual, I agree with others that you should go for a classical looking wool jacket / coat. They last forever and suit every occasion.
In my view, puffer style coats are a bit too casual.

    • Uniqlo is probably the same as Kathmandu ? Really ?

  • Has anyone tried gazman overcoats https://.gazman.com.au/sale/jackets

  • Kathmandu also have some jackets but they seem to be quite overpriced anyways.

Have you check out the Kathmandu Outlet, some of the jacket's price seem OK.

  • I got a Ralph Lauren down puffer jacket for $200 marked down from $360 a few weeks ago and I've worn it basically every day since. With a t-shirt and jumper on underneath I don't feel the cold or wind chill at all. Fits your semi-formal and casual event criteria I reckon.

Here's the jacket in question - might still be on sale at Myer and Ralphy outlets.

David Jones currently have an extra 40% off already reduced coats & jackets.

  • Myer or David Jones, problem solved !

  • Myer has a decent sale at the mo, with additional discount on already reduced prices. Just bought a Marcs wool coat, originally $399, reduced to $249, final price $175. It's replacing another Marcs coat that lasted a good 10 years and is only now beginning to show its age. There seemed to be a bunch of brands on sale, go and have a look.

Style wise, I agree with the previous advice - stick to classic styles that will last. Personally I was shopping for a similar thing to you, wearable for work but also casual. I ended up going for a pea-coat style.
