QuickSales.com.au Is Closing - Would Anyone Notice?

So I got an email from Quicksales saying they were finally giving up and shutting down at the end of July.

Nothing on the site though, the last announcement was from 5 years ago where they updated the community forums.

I guess having a seller to buyer ratio of approximately 1,000,000:1 doesn't make for a sustainable business. But hey, free listings that never expire!

I did once sell an item on Quicksales (member since the OZtion days); it had been on there for so long by the time the sale happened I'd forgotten all about it. I did find it and mail it, the lousy bugger never did leave me any feedback.

Ha, I've still got one listing! Over 800 views! And there's a typo, good one idiot. No wonder it didn't sell.

Is there anyone here doing such a roaring trade on Quicksales that they might care at its passing?

I wouldn’t have noticed if you didn’t mention it. I had a few items up once upon a time, but after two years, still no buyers. People give eBay a hard time because of their fees, but hey at least I actually sell something every other day.

  • Were they OZtion previously? I got the email yesterday, but didn't make the connection.

I did sell some stuff on OZtion back in the day, but I was selling the same stuff on ebay and the ratio of sales was like 100:1 in eBay's favour.

    • Were they OZtion previously?

They started as OZtion around 2005, and changed to QuickSales around 5-6 years later when they sold to CarSales. They spent a few years after that trying to promote it and basically gave up about 5 years ago.

(The email I got came from CarSales, not Quicksales oddly enough.)

  • I remember when I looked there years agi, all the prices were significantly higher than on other places like Ebay and sometimes from the same sellers. So I just bought elsewhere.

    • significantly higher than on other places like Ebay

I never could figure out the logic behind that.

So ok, compared to eBay Quicksales has much cheaper shop rates, no listing fees, listings never expire and the selling fees are lower meaning I can sell at the same price and get more profit, sell at a lower price to get more sales, or price my stuff higher and get no sales at all.

Option #3 sounds brilliant! How could I lose! And I'll take that extended warranty as well!

  • Had 1-2 items listed, good thing is there's no scammers/spammers or low ballers, bad thing is there's also no buyers too.

People complain about Gumtree and the fees on eBay, but even though Quicksales is free, it's got no buyers market. You're paying for the buyers market when listing on eBay/Gumtree.

  • Has a bunch of listing on quicksales, and have sold many stuff over the years. But there's no more buyers anymore I guess.

And I don't know why they don't let google to index the things on the site, it's just that you cant find any listing there on google.

Anyway, sad to see it's shutting down.

eBay/gumtree does the work but I hate them.

    • they don't let google to index the things on the site

Worked for me on a few things I tried, mind you they were a fair way down on the list after eBay, Amazon & other shops.

I don't think that was their problem.

  • Lucky we have Amazon now, otherwise eBay will just keep increasing the fee.

  • I am upset that QS is closing and that I have no easy way to save my almost 1000 detailed listings.

Does anyone know of any other good sites that are alternatives to eBay? I use gumtree and marketplace already but would like to replace QS
