          Well you don't necessarily just hold it, often you'll find yourself picking it up to give it a bit of a toss. When it's full of food it probably weighs 5kg+ so it's good to have an ergonomic handle.

      Most people who are decently experienced with cast iron tend to recommend flaxseed oil as it forms a pretty good layer of seasoning, however it's prone to flaking and is also very expensive.

      Generally any high smoke point, unsaturated oil works. Crisco, canola, vegetable oils, etc. Don't use olive oil as it has a low smoke point.

      I've used canola oil and rice bran oil.

      I normally use vegetable oil, and I tried other cooking oil, too.

      You want oil that has high smoke point.

      In old days, I used pork fat (without skin & meat), does the job very well.

      I find grapeseed works quite well. It doesn't go flaky like flax and is far cheaper.

    Excellent find OP.
    I've been looking at getting a cast iron Grill for a couple of weeks and getting 2 for well under A$100 delivered is amazing.
    For those who don't know, cast iron grills are amazing for cooking a steak for several reasons such as even distribution of heat etc. But by far the best reason is the deep ridges, that you simply can't get in aluminium grilles, which provide excellent sear marks on your steaks and allow excess fat to drain away from the steak.
    If you only want 1-2 steaks it is far more convenient than firing up the BBQ.

    Consider this if you want to buy larger pan as 9-10.25" can be very restrictive to cook. This is 13" and is good quality.

    my order arrived this morning, ordered on the 19th, so pretty quick delivery.
    But the packaging from amazon is surprisingly bad, it arrived in an oversized banged up box with minimal bubble wrap thats barely covering the items, and no filling materials so the pans are rolling around inside. even the delivery guy from UPS mentioned it maybe damaged.
    Luckily its cast iron…

    I ordered 6 items, arrived today.

    No wrapping, just rolling around lose in a huge box. I guess it doesn’t matter for cast iron.

    Double Dutch oven is different to the item listed. The lid is flat and non reversible, has drip cones on the underside. Have emailed amazon and will see what they say

    Apparently mine got delivered to a wrong address yesterday. Someone signed for it. Now created a missing delivery case with Australia Post. Not sure if I should approach Amazon yet or wait for the resolution from Australia post :/
