I spent a short while trying to produce an example where it would save me a lot of delivery cost, but the things I'm likely to want with a lot of delivery cost aren't in the eBay Plus category. Funny that.

Try it for free. Then decide for yourself.
I found a few items which would would save "a lot" of delivery cost. For example these motorcycle boots which have Au$20 postage.
I think it'll be worth it if sellers start to include postage price separately. I've done it now for items I'm currently selling. Since I ship express 3kg, buyers can save $16.40 with eBay Plus.
How does it work? Does ebay pay you the 16.40 separately?
Yeah just like how a 10% or 20% off code works. It'll deduct for the buyer but I'll still be compensated by eBay
Why not sell 99c items with $100 postage?
Or am I missing something
@Quantumcat: That's what I'm thinking too. I thought they would set it such that you can only use Australia Post rates. But you can also set the postage yourself and still have eBay Plus which is what I did. I don't particularly feel like testing that out so we'll see what happens in the future. I wouldn't be surprised if they set it so that you can only set the postage as determined by eBay/AusPost
@BlazinPast: Can all sellers participate in eBay Plus or were you contacted?
@singingwolf: it's automatic. here are the requirements:
We will automatically opt in listings offering a best-in-class retail experience on eBay, including the best customer experience. Criteria to be part of the program include (but are not limited to):
Sellers who are Above Standard or eBay Top Rated (eTRS)
New and fixed priced listings
Returns are accepted
The item is located in Australia
Item is non-bulky or heavy.@BlazinPast: OK - thanks. Will try out with some new items. Cheers.
thanks for that overview
wow, ebay is really moving away from being a second-hand auction site to an amazon-style marketplace platform for vendors with this, isnt it?
If it is the same as the eBay Plus system in Germany, it works like this:
The seller needs to:
- offer free shipping
- handle any return if required
- must specify a cutoff time (and if the item is purchased before the cut off time), seller needs to post it on the same day
Seller gets discount in final value fee. So, don't think about tricking feeBay on putting a high postage.
Please do not give your personal spin on eBay Plus unless you are sure that's how it is going to operate. feeBay does NOT refund the postage to the seller.
Sorry, I wasn't going to have a go at you until I read what you wrote in bold.
You start off with
If it is the same as the eBay Plus system in Germany, it works like this:
Then say
Please do not give your personal spin on eBay Plus unless you are sure that's how it is going to operate
You say to not give your person spin unless you know how it's going to operate yet you don't know how it operates in Australia because you're just assuming it's the same as Germany. Quite hypocritical
Currently, you do not need to ship it the same day since I have my listings set to 1 business day handling and they still have eBay Plus. Secondly, no, the seller does not have to compensate the postage.
Listings can still qualify for eBay Plus if you've specified a postage cost. eBay Plus members get free delivery as one of the benefits of their subscription, so we'll cover the difference.
eBay will cover the difference.
You are right. I apologise. You do get free postage and return on eBay Plus listings. It's good for top rated and power sellers.
@netsurfer: They might revise it with some of the aspects you mentioned once there are enough people on eBay Plus. For now, there's no real extra burden for sellers. If you were already offering returns, this doesn't change much.
This. Right now most listings which offer Ebay Plus offer free shipping, which was the culture Ebay wanted to generate for quite sometime.
I think as businesses using Ebay Plus uncouple their prices and start including postage then it MIGHT become worth it.
At first glance, no.
Still early days and too soon to properly assess.
Be sure of one thing, what EBay give with one hand they take away (plus more) with the other
We have several hundred items listed on EBay, with probably half offering free postage.
So the question is if we have listing (a) at a priced of $27.50 with free postage and listing (b) at a price of $20.50 and postage of $7.00, logically a buyer would opt for listing (b)?Yes that's correct if eBay plus is applicable on option (b), otherwise not because coupons don't include postage.
That's the annoying part of it. If someone doesn't have eBay Plus, then it's not as appealing. I think it bothers people when I offer $15+ shipping separately as opposed to absorbing it into the price and including it as 'free' shipping.
free shipping normally gets higher ranked too. Offer both - I have found both appeal as some just look at the price and ignore postage.
Think about it like an insurance policy
You might use it and you might not.
You might come out ahead and You might not.If you dont buy it, then you dont pay for it and have nothing to lose.
Just got a deal making it worthwhile- $15 + $7.90 postage, now $15.
$29 for the first year.
$2.42 a month.
Less than 70c a week.
Worth it.
It's not that bad, bought something from Computer Alliance, they wanted $15 shipping, eBay Plus makes it free. At $29 a year for the first year, couple of deliveries you're on your way to breaking even so this might be more beneficial if you shop frequent?
As a seller how can I qualify to have my listings show up as 'Plus'?
Merged from What benefit is eBay getting by offering eBay Plus memberships?
Just wondering what is the benefit to eBay with the eBay Plus service? Why would they introduce it? If it is to drive more online sales, why not just make free shipping available to everyone for selected items? Or make it an opt-in free program?
eBay must be getting something out of this. More data for analytics maybe?
Response to Amazon Prime.
But why charge for the service?
I'm skeptical about this but this makes great conversion.
I think this is a largely devious plan to get you to pay $29 for free shipping by scaring you into thinking a $15 fee per order is the norm.
But you make your money back on 2 deliveries… I'm conflicted.
If seller starts to split the postage fee for ebay plus member, at $29 per year it's almost a no brainer considering how much Australia Post charge for shipping these days.
I wonder if ebay plus also cover restocking fees for returns.
Is eBay trying to push sellers to charge a delivery fee so that buyers are more inclined to buy eBay Plus?
I swear I've seen sellers recently start charging a delivery fee when they used to be free (or included in their item price)
yep, which was expected. There's no 'value' if sellers are including postage in the price and offering 'free postage'.
Although things will shift to stores charging a more reasonable cost as right now some of the businesses are ripping off Ebay with ridiculous postage fees (one I saw today was charging $19 delivery for a SD card).
I'm fine with businesses charging postage if it means those with Ebayplus get the item cheaper but those without Ebayplus aren't paying more.
Sooooo, I have been buying a lot of stuff on ebay lately and I find ebayplus literally useless.
- Lots of sellers already include postage in the item cost, so Ebayplus is useless here.
- Ebayplus items cost more than non ebayplus items for some reason…
- Free returns is useless, My amex has protections and Paypal offers a few free returns per year which I dont even use..
- I used ebayplus support to complain about the issues above and I found out that I was actually not talking with ebayplus support. They dude was asking me why I needed to be transferred. FFS.
With Amazon, since its a warehouse, you get actual free shipping and not fake free shipping.
You get amazon prime video
Twitch sub, free games and bonuses in games..
Free access to books
paying only $2.50 a month with AMEX
Shipping is a lot faster (1-2days)eBay are currently offering a $40 gift card for new Plus members, if you signup immediately ($49), foregoing the trial period until 30 September
2018. You could give this a go for the first year and probably come out in front.
New items can often be won a lot cheaper at auction. Example, a new HP EliteBook 1040 G4 4K i7 Notebook Laptop, sold recently at auction for $1,170, with free shipping. By comparison, several eBay Plus members were asking $2,330 to $3,400 with free shipping and it was only the i5 model. Remember, eBay Plus only supports new and fixed priced items and this is not always the best option. In guessing buying a dishwasher and using eBay plus would not give me free delivery from the Goodguys
I was buying an LG C9 TV ($4600+) today and a discount code for $300 was available or a different code for 20% for eBay Plus members. Spending $49 to get $900+ discount certainly made it worthwhile for me. I don't know if extra discounts for eBay Plus members is a common thing.
Yes definitely, you save on big stores such as Bing Lee, Computer Alliance, Myer, Catch and many others that have delivery costs which are usually unavoidable, especially for cheaper items. Of course some have C&C, but Bing Lee for example is only in NSW. 4 purchases in the first year already covers the cost of the membership.
