Thanks!
This is great advice however I'd like to add my 2 cents worth as i have purchased many off Gumtree over the years.
From my many years of experience, many on Gumtree do the right thing and there are others that are blatantly corrupt and lie.
You have to be careful with laptops as an issue might not surface until after purchase.
I mean you are not going to sit there testing it for 2 hours.
Good luck!
Cheers
Great tips couldn't have said it any better myself.
Just to add try and establish as many communication and verification avenues as much as possible to verify integrity what I mean is try add there Facebook, messenger, LinkedIn even or have a mobile number to contact them. I would even maybe try get their address if it is such a big ticket item.
While it may not ensure safety it might give you a path to communicate or at least vent when and if things do go wrong.
I still have a lady who scammed me outright over an iPad pro and we still talk on Facebook and messenger.. She has been putting off the delivery for nearly 2 months now and giving me all sorts of excuses. Not letting up on this one at least I'm gonna get my refund back for this.
Thank you

Time to call or refer this scammer to the cops!
Good luck!

@vinni9284: trying to give her the benefit of the doubt before I do.. Don't want to ruin a life before I am sure it is malicious
2 months to receive payment and still waiting?
Tbh,i don't think you'll receive anything.
You're optimistic and very patient!
@vinni9284: they don't call me delusional and crazy for nothing :)
TL;DR You win some you lose some
This might not be a win might be a loss we shall see.. I guess it counters all the wins I have been having lately gotta balance the equation or the universe might get me :p
@AlienC:
Fair enough!
As long as you can sleep at night and don't stress. That's what really matters!
Cheers
I'm curious why you want a laptop over a desktop for your apartment, for the money you invest on a gaming laptop you can get 15-35% better performance in a desktop PLUS future upgradability.
Have a look at this place https://www.metabox.com.au/ i got mine there a couple of years ago and still going strong .
Thanks!

Op - any budget? Plenty of 7700HQ/1060 laptops nowadays and should be cheaper now that 8750H CPUs are out.
Go on gumtree and get a GTX 1050ti laptop.
They can sell for 1000-1200 AUD brand new so you should be able to nab a second hand one for 600-800 if you are lucky.
Same goes for a GTX 1060 laptop but those might be harder to haggle as most people don't know these could be had brand new for 1600 AUD before and are still selling used ones for like 2k and upwards sometimes so haggling might be harder.
But yeah I would say 1050ti/1060 is the sweet spot.
Cpu shouldn't matter it will either be a 7300HQ or 7700HQ most likely.
