330

Not sure what's with the 14Gb (seems like an odd capacity). Maybe people would care to comment?

  • Instead of 16gb which most USB consists of, the actual writable memory space is around 14-15gb. This ad seems to suggest that it is 14gb of writable memory.

Too bad it isn't USB 3.0

I'd suggest that the site isn't "tech savvy" enough to realise that it's the usual manufacturer conversion.. Considering they are showing a screenshot with "14105MByte" of free space.

    ie. Usually 1Mbytes = 1024Kbytes - most manufacturer us 1Mbyte = 1000Kbytes.

So, this is a 16GB drive - they just don't realise it.

I think they do realize the capacity of this. From their description:

Moreover, unlike all other sellers we advertise actual amount of data that you are able to write on our drive. You do not have to know techies' laguage - just use our flash drive and full 13.7 Gb of storage are at your disposal.

Interesting… But clearly kicking the trend confuses the masses more than providing "actual" information.

I might be a tech-savvy person and know techies' LANGUAGE, but it looks as if the entrepeneurs who wrote the fantastic description don't know the English language.

      Read!

Should be either 14GiB or 16GB then. :P

      • Can someone please tell me what these posters are smoking!?

        • +5

          the good stuff

  • +2

3.85 MB/s write speed according to their screenshot, that's pretty poor, but i guess you get what you pay for

  • +2

Dunno if anyone noticed the slow speeds of the H2testw report…

    3.85 MB/sec write, 19.3MB/sec read

          or fools never differ

+1 Vote, purely for honesty in advertising. I wish HDD manufacturers did this!

    • +6

      +1 . I appreciate that they showed h2testw results >.<

    • +3

+1 A honest retailer gets my vote too. Good value too even with the slower speed.

    • +1

agree Mehmet - all HDD manufacturers should do this

  • Does the seller really mean GB (gigabyte) because a Gb (gigabit) is only 1/8th GB?

    • You would never measure any storage media with gigabits.
The only proper use I know for gigabits is when you are dealing with network and internet connections.

      • -1

So the seller describing the capacity using the unit Gb throughout the offer is wrong!

        • The person who negged this should have at least seen above the difference between the units GB and Gb or referred to other sources before jumping into action.

From wikipedia: The International Electrotechnical Commission's standard IEC 60027 specifies that the symbol for binary digit should be "bit", and this should be used in all multiples, such as "kbit" (for kilobit). However, the letter "b" (in lower case) is widely used too. The letter "B" (upper case) is both the standard and customary symbol for byte.

id rather stick to a reputable brand to give me a better chance of actually being able to recover my data afterwards, even if it costs $5 more.

    • +2

surely you don't put your pron on USB flash drives?

      • Personally, I put a lot of important files on USB drives - more convenient than emailing most of the time.

And I've also been burnt by shitting USB drives. And short changed - had an "8GB" that would slow down after you put more than 1GB on it, then die completely.

  • I think it might be a 16gb stick with 2gb corrupted

  • screw GiB, GB = giga byte

    giga = 10^9

    not 2^30

it makes much more sense to use GB as gigabye than to use GB as gibibyte

it is OS's that do the slightly wrong thing by using the unit GB for 2^30

  • Website now says 'SOLD OUT'

  • anyone who bought this when receiving the package
check if it is in GiB or GB
