Do Wifi Booster / Extenders work ?

I have my modem in the middle of house, but the wifi signal is very hit and miss outside in our shed (probably about 20metres away from the modem). So I was reading up on Wifi Boosters /Extenders and wondered if these units work and if you do use one did you notice a considerable improvement ? I called my local computer shop and they said either that or buy a new modem.

    get a mesh system (i have google wifi and can highly recommend it) or an ubiquiti

    use powerline extender to the shed as long as they are on the same circuit.

    I used to use an extended but didn't really like it.

    I now have google wifi and love it.

    I have a granny flat about 50m away - it uses the main house wifi via the powerline extender on the same circuit.

    I'd be careful with those repeaters. Seemed like a great idea at the time except when you're in between 2 of the devices, and suddenly the wifi pretty much doesn't work! I turned them off and sold them off on ebay

    I've heard Google Wifi mesh system is pretty choice

      Sounds like you might've had them both running on the same 2.4ghz channel…

    I have 2 netgear PLW1000 powerline accss points in my place which work very well. Sadly they don't mesh, but are a good option for the place that I'm renting and don't want to run cables in the walls for a ubiquiti wifi setup.

    Hi all,

    I have a two floor apartment where the floors are not directly above each other but joined via a diagonal staircase, like the dodgy illustration below:

    My modem is on the first floor in the living room and as you get halfway up the stairs the signal is gone. I have a powerline adaptor already which i have my PC hooked up to.

    I just bought a xiaomi robovac so need wifi upstairs so i can clean up there as well.

    Is it as simply as buying another powerline adaptor, pairing it and then placing a second modem upstairs?

    I ended up buying the one that I posted above in my original post - it worked a treat - very happy !!
