How to Get a Bargain Quickly without Wasting Time?

Being a new mum, I'm half asleep most days and don't have the patience or the time to look for bargains/best deals as much as I used to. So to get bargain/cheapest price I do the followings:
1. Shop at Aldi as much as I can (always quite cheap and good quality), can refund if I don't like it.
2. Shop at Chemist Warehouse and price match them with other stores
3. I love Pricehipster, saves me so much time and I use it when price matching stuff (No.2)
3. Skyscanner/ Flight Centre price match
4. HALF PRICE app
5. Shop at Target/Kmart/Big W
6. Daiso

OK baby is crying now, gtg. I'm looking for other suggestions/tips you find useful??

Load up your ebay cart with stuff and wait for a discount code.

By actively looking for bargains rather than posting stuff on the internet…

      • Lol

    • Good one. Thanks!

how much do you think you save by shopping at Aldi? like 2 cents or something?

    • +1

      A lot :)

I think you do make a saving. Everytime I go there I'm constantly surprised how much I think the bill will be at the end and what it actually ends up being if I brought the same items at Woolworths or Coles. Having said that though Aldi don't have all the things we would want in a full shop for grocery. Also found the fresh food goes off a lot quicker.

No matter how savvy I try to be if I’m at Coles or Woolies I will still end up with brand name products. Aldi fixes that by giving you competitive home brand prices without any choice! :P

While you do actually save something but at what cost? It's probably worthwhile when the queues are short but when there's one cashier and the person right in front of you have 2 trolleys full waiting…

        • My son has a cost value equation as he's a student. So any cost saving methods he is very sceptical. If its only going to save you such a small amount is it worth it. I said to him that although cashrewards generally offer you minimal rewards back 1-2% normally, if you were going to buy the items from those stores and Ebay anyway at least its something back, and over a year it adds up. I know a lot of cashrewards ppl are racking up $1000s in cash as they put everything personal and business on it. So highly recommend that scheme as its a no brainer.

        • @Dedbny: I have tried using cashrewards a couple of times and never got any rebate back.

        • however it all comes down to how much you value your time.
You can't quantify how much your free time is worth… unless you plan on earning money with your free time it cannot be compared to $ you earn day to day.

        • @sagrules:
Check if you have a firewall/cache blocker stuff, you will need to turn it off when completing the purchase (sorry not very good with tech stuff)…last time I kept missing the cashrewards due to that reason. Also follow the cashreward terms and conditions.

      • Agreed about the fresh food going off quicker. Some stuff doesn't even last a week. In saying that though there isn't much of a saving anymore. Used to be able to fill a trolley for $80 now they are nearly the same price

You left out shopping at the Salvo's stores etc

    • +2

My local salvos had a half price sale. Prices were very low to start with. Got a flash office chair for $4.

    • Hmm…tried several times but never found anything (hence wasting time)….and no offence intended, some stores smells a bit funny, like musky smell?

      • Smells like stinky feet. I rather wear Kmart clearance clothes. I don't understand how people who can afford things can wear second hand (very) worn shoes from strangers, the sweat and diseases.

        • +1

Don't buy the shoes but have bought clothes and, particularly, books. Lots of choice and you don't need to worry about a library return date. Nowdays they probably throw out the worn out shoes - they are getting pickier about what they will accept.

I shop at coles for flybuys (save almost 400$ last year), chemist warehouse for baby product and wait for sales to buy kids clothes at david jones or myer (as there are some good bargains for some good quality clothes). But i also love cotton on. I love receiving catalogues of the week in my letter box because then i can look which shop have good bargain and if there are something i want. I also have what i call a bin email where i would receive all the special offers from different companies. Groupon, scoopon and cudo are also good to find cheap tickets for kids outing. And toymate have great prices for toy and will match prices and beat by 5%.

    • Thanks! Will look into the special offer deals when bubba is bigger :)

Fuelcheck NSW for fuel (obviously NSW) there are similar apps for other states
Woolworths gift card or Coles 5% off min

    • Great suggestion. Will look into it. Thanks!

      Hahaha….of course!! Any bargain tips?

      • +1

        Don't have kids, too expensive.

        • Yuppp…I agree on how expensive it is!!!

  • +5

Do not default to chemist warehouse. It is their strategy, draw you in with loss leaders and then getting you to buy high margin items. Things which are not catalogue in warehouse are usually same or more expensive than competitors.

Price match everything. And use self-control.

    OzBargain !

  • Before renewing insurance, get quotes from 3 other companies.

I always come here before I buy anything to see if there is a better deal.

Also, my local Woolies sells meat & bakery items cheap late Sunday afternoons. There are also racks for older bread and cakes and a section for stuff they want to get rid of.

At the Adelaide Central Markets there is a bakery that sells day old rolls for like $1 for a pack of 4.

I also buy all small electronic accessories like cables, chargers, phone stuff online - mostly Ebay. I can't believe the prices shops charge for phone cases!
