Advice on Getting New Tyres for Mitsubishi Lancer

I need 2 new tyres (front) for my Mitsubishi Lancer but I am thinking it is better value to get four new tyres, plus I won't have to worry about replacing them for a while.

  1. I am tossing up between Bob Jane and Tyrepower - any suggestions?

  2. Which is the best deal at the moment?

Any advice would be awesome!

  • I think unless you can find a 4 for the price of 3 offer, you may be better off finding the tires on tempetires and getting Kmart to price match

    • Agreed with FoxJump - This is what I did last time…

  • Surely you should be looking to buy tyres by brand, rather than retailer?

    What's your budget?
How many k's a year do you do?
What's on your car at the moment?
    Do you like them?
How many mm tread left on the rears?

    • The brand is the priority, but I want to choose a retailer that will provide lowest price and best service etc.

      1. $400 fitted
      2. 15,000km
      3. Bridgestone
      4. Yes they have lasted 50,000kms+
      5. Not sure but they are getting close to the tread guide thing.
      • Then buy 4 of the ones you already have and like.

        Last 3 questions

        What size are they?
        Where are you located?
What date stamp is on the spare? (assuming it's a full size spare) the date stamp is a 4 digit code like 2414 which means 24th week of 2014)

Rotate your rears to the front and buy new rear ones. Rinse and repeat.

    • The rears on the way out so I thought if there is a pay for 3 and get 1 free it would be better value to upgrade all 4 in one go..

Well you didn’t say you needed 4 tyres did you?

        • I think I could get another 6 months or so out of the rears so that is why I was thinking of just getting 4 new ones…

    • For a front wheel drive car you want your better tyres on the front of the car as these are the tractive wheels and should have the best rubber.

  • dont bridgestone have their 4 for the price of 3 offer on now?

Don't buy retreads and don't cheap out on them. Wife bought some cheapos for her car and in the wet it had little grip

@ Ryanek "Rotate your rears to the front and buy new rear ones. Rinse and repeat."

It's a front wheel drive. You want the good tyres on the drive axle.

  • Try Costco.They are cheaper
    Need membership but still better.

    • The bonus is you can pay for membership, get your tyres fitted and then cancel for a full refund.

1 - Firstly, you need to understand the dimensions of your tyres.

E.g. 215 x 65 x ZR 15 .. have a look at your tyre wall for something similar to this.

2 - With your new found dimensions, call a local tyre shop of the Brand you like (Bridgestone) and get a quote for 4 using your dimensions. Also ask them for wheel alignment (extra), fitted and balanced (that is the norm)

3 - Get several quotes from other tyre places and then when you get the best price, call back the tyre place that you like and ask if they can match or beat the quote.

4 - Some tyre places offer free tyre rotation for the life of the tyre however they will try to flog off the cost of the wheel alignment as an extra. You don't get something for nothing LOL

    Cheers

  • Found Tempe tyres to be the cheapest, at least for my tyre size. Buy it on their ebay store to get 10% off with the current ebay promotion.

go to a new car wrecker buy a set of wheels (tyres and hubs) from a low KM car that suit your car.

you update your rims. and get "new" tyres.

I did that with my 2013 outlander. needed new 4 tyres. looking at ~$250 each.

bought complete set of tyres+hubs off a wrecker from a 2015 outlander that had done less than 5,000km.

    paid $540.

Sold the old rims and tyres on gumtree for $150. (to a bloke who wanted updated rims for his 2011 outlander)

had a complementary balance/alignment at my next service. - bam done.

    new tyres + updated rims.

Goodyear is having a buy 3 take 1 atm. Take that into consideration as well.
