  I'm not a fan of the dynamics at play here. These card packs normally cost real money to buy. Giving vulnerable people a 'free spin on the wheel' to encourage real money to be spent in buying more packs (when the inevitable disappointment of not getting what you want in the free pack given), is poor form.

  Have a look at some of the desperate comments at the bottom of the link page.

    Or you can win games and finish quests and buy packs with in game gold without spending a cent.

      I get that mate… I played WoW for many years in the past, and I get that using in game currency for stuff is fine.
      But Hearthstone is different- it has a real gambling profile. Yes most sensible people won't use real cash… but there's thousands out there playing this game (and a lot under 18yo) that develop very poor gambling judgement, and as a direct consequence will use real cash to build their card portfolio 'to impress their mates'.

      It's marketed as harmless fun because you don't have to use real cash.
      But you wouldn't take your kids to the local club for dinner and allow them to play with 'play' poker machines in the free games area.

      It's gambling programming for the vulnerable. And it's not just underage players that are at risk. Why is real cash even allowed at all? (rhetorical question, I know why… Blizzard is making millions off people gambling!)

      You can but the grind feels disappointing when they rollover a season and your older cards get invalidated from the next season you can be tempted to spend to unlock the new good cards.
