Hi all
I am looking to buy a new Kia Cerato Auto hatch (with AV pack) in the EOFY sales. Best dealer price I can see locally is about $19k drive away. I haven't bought a new car before. What should I be aiming for as a final price?
Thanks

MMMyeah sort of inclined towards the ultimate-tomato's way of thinking, but 'mabes' you want all the WARRANTIES that come with new cars these days? (I.e., up to 5 years depending on the 'deal'/usage/etc.) … not the sort stuff included in a 'Chop-Shop Gum-Tree Deal'. It's been a while since I frequented/posted on this website, but a couple of years ago there was a guy on here who regularly/selflessly provided great advice about car-related stuff to all and sundry… I think he was an actual mechanic. From memory, his UN was some sort of permutation of 'Rocky Raccoon'. If you can get some advice from that guy about this, I reckon it will be well and truly 'on the money'.
If you buy a 1 year old car, you still have the balance of Kia's 7 year (unlimited KMs) manufacturer's warranty.
The profit margin on well selling budget cars is very low. That's why dealerships try to sell you finance (don't do it), window tinting (ditto), paint treatment (people still seriously buy this for $2k or more!), and other garbage like extended warranties (often come with lots of strings attached).
If you're a guy then sit back and be entertained by the song and dance car dealerships make. After signing for the car you'll be introduced to a hot young woman to sell you paint treatment and other useless items. Enjoy the show, but don't buy. I don't know what dealerships do if a woman is buying a car. Do they have a hot guy waiting in the wings to do the 'Approved by Boeing! Space age nano crystal carbon technology' paint demo, or they maybe hope the lady swings both ways.
Your chances of negotiating down a KIA Cerato are pretty slim, unless the dealership has a sales target to reach EOFY and hasn't done so, or the factory is kicking in bonus cash for the dealers. The best you can do is play dealers off against each other and see how low they will go, but ultimately are you going to be satisfied working hours to chop maybe $200 off a $20k car?
Beware that car dealers may give you a better price on the new car by cutting the trade in value of your existing vehicle.
Fyi the past 4 dealerships have had:
Woman
Straight guy
Straight guy who then transitioned to a woman
Gay guy
So it's not always a 'hot young woman' (unfortunately!)
Straight guy who then transitioned to a woman
Man, what dedication to her career…
Do your research and then when your ready to do a deal call around. Make sure you tell salesperson you want to do a deal today and ask what their best price is. That you dont want to waste time. Let them call you back but tell them it needs to be within hour as you want to sign today.
This should be done say on last Sat of this month.
Ensure it is a new 2018 dated manufactured model.
Your better bet to make a saving is to get a low km demo with say 500 or 1000km.
Giod luck.
ask what their best price is
😂😂
Most modern salespeople won't entertain this proposition
New model coming soon. This one is runout essentially
cerato s AV. purchased on last year April for 18.5k with accerroies with expensive CTP insurance(ctp refund happened this year for last year)
This year new model already released. So I will be looking around 17k drive away with accessories

Good discount! How did you do it?
just went there test drive, and walkout
got a callback with price of sub 19
i said 18 and we came in between 18.5 with accessories.
but the sales guy got approval from manager(i saw him running to the manager for final approval when i was there to sign)
when went for service, i asked for discount, service manager told me he can't do anything,
but i just gave a try and blabbed "sales guy told me if i service here i will get 10% discount"
so he just did it and on invoice it says VIP discount 10%. which i will use for future as hard refrence

Hey buddy @captaincabinets,
Did you manage to negotiate & buy cerato? I am also inclined towards this car.
Thanks.
Haven't bought yet, I'll let you know if I get a good deal
Thanks for the replies all. Helpful information here
Here's a tip: buy a real car lol
And you drive what exactly?
I'm waiting…
My bet is on Bombadore, a Falcoon or any of the early 2000's range of beaten up old twin cab shit boxes.
look on carsales for the same model. Find the cheapest. That is the price from where you start negotiating from. (take into account any differences there may be in state sales tax/registration)
On another note. why go for new and lose money on new car depreciation? why not get a model that is a few years old with low Kms with balance of Kia's long warranty and save a lot?
