PAMPER20

Already 23% off, have another 20% off with code Pamper20 and get some cheap Western Digital Red 8TB drives. Very decent drive in my opinion, have been running four in a raid for the last year and hasnt missed a beat.

Seagate Ironwolf 8TB, is $295, using the code at FUTUonline.

    • Also a good price. I think the western digital is worth it for reliability. I have had some great seagates and shotty seagates but always great wds.

The difference in reliability is tiny. It makes no sense to pay more for it unless you are saving money by doing so eg you can hire less employees.

Completely disagree. Reliability is crucial when it comes to hard drives. The risk of losing data and the time it takes to recover the data is worth much more than 'tiny' price difference.

        • @bahgain:

speaking of reliability. My external wd drive just died today. Going to recover 2tb worth of stuff. :(

        • Back Blaze drive reliability data is showing little to no difference. You cant go wrong with either the Ironwolf or Red Series drives. In this case, its worth saving the extra $30 in my opinion.

As for the risk of data loss, no drive is perfect. If you dont invest in some sort of backup system, then you deserve to lose your data.

        • Depends.

Wouldn't touch a Seagate portable HDD as the difference is massive.

Desktop drives probably are similar at the moment. Although I note that Seagate have had some particularly dud sizes in the past (3tb IIRC were shockers, 4tb were great.. go figure). Hopefully they've ironed out such trouble, but considering their portable drives, actually I doubt it.

From my own statistics, about 40 desktop drives, split comparably between Samsung, HGST, Seagate and WD, I've had one Seagate and one Samsung fail. So desktop drives have been good to me overall. BUT I'm buying the drives when they are cheaper and when you can scroll through amazon reviews - mostly I'm looking for "worked, but failed within 2 months" kinda reviews. I've noticed this is where Seagate struggles compared to other brands.

    Already 23% off,

Hardly. Their 'original' price of $539 is laughable, it may currently be the cheapest out there with the code but as usual with their price jack, it's nowhere near as much of a bargain as it should be when advertised as '20% off' - Staticice prices
