iPad 16GB/Wi-Fi for $538.95 Delivered - Graysonline - Other Versions Also Available

520

The cheapest prices I found for the Apple iPad (in Australia).

16GB Wifi $529 (SOLD OUT)
16GB 3G $719
32 GB Wifi $659
32GB 3G $799
64GB Wifi $779
64GB 3G $899

Delivery $9.95

Please be aware that there will be soon a new version of the iPad … so discounting will be very common for the "old" version.

I also would not suggest the 3G Version if you have an iPhone … the next software update (4.3) should introduce a Local WIFI Hotspot. So you just need your iPhone to connect to the net.

EDIT: The WIFI Version does have no GPS … so when you need GPS you need to buy the 3G Version … thanks iampivot, tethering might be prohibited on your mobile network … so check your contract, Android phones have that functionality already and will work as a WIFI Hotspot, some people still prefer 3G build in … :-)

EDIT: The 16GB Version sold out … other versions still available.

+1 for good contextual information. Thanks OP!

    • Agree..
Most Android phones are also capable of operating as a WiFi Hotspot too. (possibly even all of them!)

      • +3

Yeah, was either 2.1 or 2.2 so any android phone worth owning has been able to hotspot for a fair while now.
Wait for apple to release the feature and call it revolutionary though and everybody will kneel at Jobs feet calling him the Messiah. :p
I half expected them to make that a big selling pint of the iphone 5's.

  • how could grays can do better (read: cheaper) than HV JB BigW ??? doesnt make sense. maybe refurbish?

    • These aren't refurbished (says "new" in the listing). Grays might be selling these on behalf of some retailer hoping to quickly clear some stock before the iPad 2 is released.

Edit: Says "cancelled corporate order" on their front page.

      • -1

Agreed, once the new model comes out these will be worth zero to 99% of people that will want the newest gizmo

  • +4

great first post. but im holding out til iPad 2… can't be far away now i reckon

  • Gosh. I sold mine off ebay $520 2 weeks ago…..

    • That was some great timing.

    • lucky u.lol

  • wow thats cheap. Ppl are still buying them 2nd hand off ebay for $500+. Too bad OW doesnt stock it. Otherwise pricematch + %5 discount. Holding off till ipad2 comes out.

  • +1

i might hold till ipad2 comes out then buy ipad1. hahaha maybe can get it $300 for a 2nd hand!

  • -2

Not going to neg but $90.05 discount on something worth $629 that will be an old model in 2.5 months doesn't seem like a fantastic bargain. Still, $90 is $90 I guess.

    • considering theres only 10% margin on apple product in the first palce

      • Not saying it's a bad deal.
Just saying that when iPad 2 comes out the price will more or less be the same as iPad is now… So for the sake of $90 + some patience you can have the iPad 2.
But if you take this deal on it's own without other factors, yes, $90 off an iPad is great.

        • +1

Obviously when the ipad 2 comes out prices will have dropped everywhere and wouldn't be much of a bargain, but don't know why you were thinking to neg when it's not even out, instead you should compare it to the price it sells for now.

    • +1

Many people are convinced the iPad 2 is only a couple of months away. How do they know? What if it's 4 or 5? Maybe 6 or 7? People who need an iPad today can get a good deal from Gray's, which is what this OzBargain post is about.

      • Has any naughty apple employee left an iPad 2 in a bar yet?
Can't be far off release when this happens :D

        • I think it's something around Feb-mar for ipads, July for phones and Sept for ipods. I read it was the new release times they want to implement.

      • well Apple's release dates are almost as good as clock. Also from the rumours ipad 2 will be a very big jump from ipad 1. Just look at ipod touch 4 vs 3, that was a very big jump.

      • Apples product cycle is almost to the day every year. It will be announced and released before easter, there is no doubt about it. The really smart people will buy a few of these, then when they announce the next keynote from Apple where the ipad 2 will be announced chuck it on ebay and make a healthy profit.

        • how could they make money on the old ipad when apple accounce the new one?

        • you sell it before they announce it. Ill break it down for you. A few weeks out from the announcement the date (of said announcement) will be revealed. You can be 100% sure that the ipad2 will be shown at that keynote. You can also be sure that majority of the buyers on ebay will not know the announcement date. So you schedule the auction to end just before the announcement. WIN WIN WIN

    • Just bought one! Ipad 2 IS NOT OUT! So I just saved $90 Ozbargain!!!!!!! stop complaining mate just cause the bargain does not suit you! "not going to neg"……… but I will!

2-3 months away for "US" release.. historically, there will be 6-9 months for AUS release :)

    • Unlikely it'll be 6-9 months between the US and Australian releases — this certainly hasn't been the case for any recent Apple product, and some have even been released at the same time. The original iPad was released on April 3 with the Australian launch initially set for "late April", but this was eventually pushed back to May 28. :)

      • +3

and in indonesia, ipad launched only on december 2010.. hahaha

      • Yeah wasn't it delayed in Australia (& other countries) because the iPad was so popular in the USA they couldn't keep up with demand (supposedly). I'm sure Apple will increase capacity to be able to launch iPad2 in multiple countries at around the same time. Mid April is my guess.

    • +1

Ipad smells the competition and they are pushing out the ipad2 asap.

  • Link also has the Iphone4 32GB for $849 - which is a pretty good deal also!!!!!

    • not as good when they had the same product for $799 :(

  • Apple closely control the pricing of their products so I would not think there will be too much discounting allowed.

Very interested in the news of the Iphone being able to operate as a hotspot. I have read that this is possible with the current software, but is purposely disabled by Apple to encourage users buy a 3G model and then a new account with a mobile provider.

I jumped on the bandwagon a few months ago. Ipad 2 might end up being better, but if I waited then the Ipad 3 would only be around the corner. Also perhaps the Ipad 2 will be better in the way the Iphone 4 is than the 3GS - ie not a major breakthrough but a progression - with a lot of bugs…

iPhone 4's screen was worth the upgrade just by itself. If the next iPad gets a higher quality screen then the upgrade will be well worth while.

    • The ipad is great, after learning a lot i the year i cannot wait to see what they do with the ipad 2.
There will be plenty of significant upgrades.
Screen, processor, camera, inputs, speakers etc They may be rumours but apple still needs to be able to compete/edge out the competition.

    • Mobile Hotspots will become pretty standards, essentially all Androids, and Symbian (probably meego as well) have mobile hotspots. In order for iPhones to stay competitive, Apple would have to offer it to their GSM iPhones as well. CDMA iPhones on Verizon already has the hotspot.

  • i have too many scratches on mine to sell for a reasonable price. will have to sit ipad2 out and keep using my gen1 =(

  • -1

    wait for new iPad guys!

    • -4

Better still don't buy the over priced locked down toy, buy an Archos 101 for AU$330 express delivered from Amazon.com or wait for the Motorola Xoom to be released in the winter.

I bought the Archos and it's awesome.

      • -2
        • +2

It sells for $299 from Amazon but they are out of stock. The Amazon Marketplace sellers are just taking advantage of the popularity and out of stock status.

      • I don't think the iPad is a good purchase, but the Archos is even worse.

        • Lol you should try one, froyo 2.2, Usb, mini Usb, micro SD, camera, rooted it kills ipad and is a great android. The only downside is the relatively low ram (256mb) which is the same as ipad.

  • +2

The advice about not getting the 3G version is a bit ill-advised. The non-3G version doesn't have a built in GPS.

    • +1

Ops … true … (I updated the posting).

      • I have a wifi only model. If I switch on a GPS ap away from my wifi connection it will still give me a position lock. Just will not update if I am mobile.

  • -3

I would rather buy the HP TouchSmart TX2 13"
    a proper laptop with multi-touch.

    • good for you, tens of millions from around the world disagree.

      • -1

        good for them.
millions more couldn't care less about the iPad.
as for me, I need a computer with a touch screen. (the HP is one example).
And the iPad is not a computer. (Apple never claims it to be)

        • Only.goes to show that many people are sheep or otherwise technically inept. If crapple didnt sell so well to mums and teenagers then the ipad wouldnt be doing so well. When my iphone 4 contract is out I for one shall jump ship to android.

  • +2

Apple product are overpriced and over-hyped.
I hate iTune and will avoid this product and ipad2 as well.
I will wait for their competition to come into the market and it will be very soon now.

I will also avoid Graysonline as they are dishonest and very troublesome to deal with - not worth the $90 saved for me.

    • -2

Dude what are you smoking? Graysonline rock. I've bought plenty of stuff through them and their customer service has always been excellent.

If $90 saving is not enough for you, what are you doing on here :P

You hate an un-released product? wow you must be able to see into the future. There's plenty of competition in the tablet space and it's already obvious Apple are wiping the floor.

Oh and for those of you considering, get the 3G. Don't follow the original advice. 4.3 Beta has the wifi hotspot (as Apple announced it would be coming to the Verizon phone) and yes, it'll come to the production, but the iPad data plans are good. It also means you don't have to rely on your phone when it goes flat (the iPad 3G battery life is brilliant whereas the iPhone 4's is not). The 64GB 3G price is good, although you're still better off getting one from the USA if you can (iPads have full international warranties).

      • +1

If ipad2 locked with itune it is all the same for me no matter how good the product is.
May experience with Graysonline was two years ago. I have not shopped with them since. I have spent over twenty grands at the time. I was disappointed when one of the pc came with a missing component that is not easily obtained but essential for its function and another with a faulty hard drive on the same day I have received it. They did not honor to replace the faulty components which value at a meager $50.

        • +2

If ipad2 locked with itune (sic) it is all the same for me no matter how good the product is.

How about telling us which relative you give christmas presents to while you are at it.

  • +1

im waiting for ipad 2. apple products hold their value well though and even a second hand iPad will still cost over $400 when the 2 comes out.

iphone 3G can easily fetch $450 for a used handset on ebay because most people just want an iphone and dont care about little differences between models.

    • -2

You're kidding yourself. Apple products only hold their value within their generation, meaning that 1 year window. Outside of this, expect your resale value to plummet.

You're looking at someone with several old iPods/iPhones that aren't worth crud once the next gen hits.

      • +1

explain to me then why iphone 3g is still selling for at minimum $350 for 16gb version on ebay?

  • What's this company that keeps buying iPhones and iPads and then not keeping them? LOL.

    • +1

      It's Google! :p

  • +2

My experience with Grays is that they don't check electronics. Buyer beware.

  • -1

just a bit of extra info on top of what OP has said. Currently (correct me if im wrong) Vodafone (maybe 3) is the only company that lets users tether their internet for free. I am pretty sure telstra and optus charge a fee. It wouldn't be the strangest thing in the world for this trend to continue when the new software is released. I do not know how much this fee is but it is something to keep in mind.

    • +1

Optus no longer charge for tethering on plans from last July onwards.

      • I seem to not be charged for my tethered data at all, i get 6gb per month, i used 4gb tethered over a week ago now and it still hasn't showed up on my usage meter. I've never really used it before due to the iphones crap bands, they just installed a new tower here. I had friends with $100 handsets that could pick up 3g here whilst my 'smart phone' only found gprs…

  • Not sure where you got your info on, but Telstra don't charge for tethering, your data is data whether you use it from the phone, or from tethering.
