Hopefully the S4 version is a bit smaller than this.
This is probably the biggest smart watch….
I've been rumors of both the Gear S4 and a new watch with the new pixel coming up, so much want to buy this, but its like hngh must wait.
If OW doesn't close up shop during the 11% deal tomorrow it will be even cheaper.
If you are referring to the eBay Ozbargain 11% sale, then…
it excludes all items sold by the following sellers:
Oh wow. OW actually managed to negotiate an exception? I haven't seen this before. They must think they are really special.
HN has it for the same price as JB, so if you have the AMEX offer saved, will work out to be cheaper than Officeworks ebay. Plus, I don't want to use Officeworks ebay ever because of what they do everytime there's a sitewide sale.
Thank op..
I had this watch. I found it fairly average. You are forced to use Samsung's built in messaging app otherwise you get nagged all the time.
Battery life was okay.
I found there wasn't really a reason to have a smartwatch and having to install apps from the galaxy app store was painful
And some other stuff (this is all just my own opinion…)
Samsung is on the wrong track with their wearables. Since they are currently in a love affair with their own OS Tizen (which runs on linux anyway), this means that this will fragment the Android/Linux/whatever ecosystem further. Tizen is to Samsung phones what Maemo was to Nokia phones.
Probably the only reason Samsung still puts android on their phones is because they know that the Samsung store is a dumpster fire and nobody would go without the apps that currently run on their phones. This pointless fragmentation also affects other areas, like their pay systems (Samsung Pay), Samsung Health, Bixby, etc etc.
The problem from the manifestations of these products above is that they fragment an already fragmented product market and make everything seem not good enough. I am not professing my love for Android Wear, but could you imagine if Samsung got on board and ran that on their wearables? Sure the first few iterations would probably be average, but maybe Google could partner with them for a Pixel watch. If Google and Samsung could get behind one consistent platform, even for their wearables only, then surely the quality of that platform would prosper.
Things like this are always personal taste, but my wife has an Apple Watch and it makes these watches, to me, look like a toy. The build quality of the S3 watch is higher, and the dial turning to select an option is awesome, but everything else is a no-contest win for the Apple Watch. Extremely basic features (remote camera shutter for the camera on the phone, for instance) is a no-show on the S3 watch.
I'll be happy when the day comes around when they release a new S* phone, and it's the CEO of Samsung getting up and saying "We've realised, we're a hardware company, not a software company" and then just cut the cord on Bixby, Samsung Health, Samsung Pay, Tizen, plus whatever else, and just focus on releasing really high quality devices running software from software companies (like Google). Could you imagine the S10 being released with stock android, with treble, and part of Android One, with updates as frequent as the Pixel? They would probably have a hard time selling Pixels in that world.
That's my rant. I hope you enjoyed it.
I did enjoy it, thank you for taking the time.
I'd also add, that if you're in tune with the Apple developer world, the developments from the recent conference show that Apple is very serious about the directions it is taking the Apple Watch. "Walkie-talkie" is the crowd-pleaser, but behind the scenes there are thoughtful developments going on.
For Samsung, it's really more of a "throw mud against the wall, see what what sticks" approach.
Yo wassup everybody, a review by your boy Floss 'ere.
Why is this a deal? Kogan is selling it for $369? https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/samsung-gear-s3-gear-frontier/
That Kogan watch seems to be an international version , which means No Samsung pay in Australia
Must say though.
Having us d it for 6 months , that shouldn’t be an issue coz it’s painful to reach Samsung Py from watch as-is
Much easier using phone
@Jabberwocky: then why is this a deal when David Jones is selling for $349.
Local vs Imported stock. Local one will have 2 years warranty and worth the extra spent.
You are paying $9 (Officeworks eBay) more for an extra year of Samsung Warranty, and support for Australian Samsung Pay.
Also note that $369 doesn't include the shipping so adding that makes the Kogan price not worth it.
Have it for over 7 months and love it. Quite stylish and replaced my fitbit for this along with the benefit of a smart watch.
Need to have Galaxy phone to enable Samsung Pay on Gear.
Does Google Pay work on the watch?
Samsung Pay only.
$329 at Costco today. Must have membership
Looks to be the new price. Officeworks, JB HiFi and Samsung all at this price
I’m an Apple guy, with an Apple Watch …. but geez I like the look of the Samsung Gear.
Classy, as opposed to looking like a duplo piece on my wrist.
The black Gear looks okay in the PHOTO, but I saw it in person in a JB Hi-Fi yesterday and er, no, it doesn't look good.
Strap a large kitchen sink plug to your wrist and you'll get the idea!
Get Harvey Norman to price match and use your $50 Amex offer.
How is this thing worth $400 in 2018? It's tech from freakin 2016.
This is more of a deal for people who want the classic
Why bother with even price match while it is on sale for $349 at David Jones.
As above:
https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/383847
At least get JB to price match it.
Why do I have to bother to match it while I can get extra 10% off via DJ gc.
In fact the only reason I will bother to price match with JB is because of the upcoming JBHifi gc 10% off promo at WW. That will make it 14.5% off. The catch is that not all the staffs are willing to match it.
Any one using iPhone to connect and use. Please share experiences. Tossing between Apple watch and this.
If you have an iPhone don't even think there'd be a better option than an Apple Watch.
The Apple Watch, being part of the same heavily controlled ecosystem, is intimately synced with the iPhone. Notifications, apps, everything is orchestrated.
Third parties simply don't have the same hooks.
Yep definitely choose the Apple Watch. They just work better together. For example this watch has Samsung Pay built in, but requires you to have Samsung Pay on your phone to work, which is only available on Samsung phones.
What I've read is that you don't need Samsung phone to do that. You can set up Samsung Pay via Gear app.
You don't need to have a Samsung phone to use Samsung Pay on the Gear S3:
Oh wow, thanks guys, I stand corrected.
Edit 1: I stand corrected. You don't need a Samsung Phone to use Samsung Pay.
Edit 2: According to this article Samsung Pay is disabled when paired with an iPhone. So not entirely sure. Maybe someone who uses their Gear S3's Samsung Pay while paired with an iPhone can verify.
For comparison, I picked up a Fossil Q Explorist for $386.10 (after 10% off) on Saturday.
Does not have HeartRate or NFC (not sure if the Gear has HR).
Great watch
I have it and use it everyday to track my sleep and sleeping pattern to get the most out of my sleep
Downside is night time is usually the time of the day to charge the watch, so if you're using it while sleeping you obviously cannot charge so you'll have to charge it about 2 hours right before you sleep
can you connect two phones at a time? I have a personal S8 and work S7. Wonder if both can be connected at the same time.
Only one at a time. To add a second you have to reset the device to get it back to pairing mode.
$378.10 @ Officeworks eBay with PULL5 Code. https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Samsung-Gear-S3-Frontier-Smart-W…
Really tempted to buy one, but holding off because I am assuming that they will release Gear S4 sometime this year.
