CLR Calcium Lime Rust Remover 750mL $9 @ Officeworks

710

750ml on clearance at Officeworks for $9 - in store and online.
Normally $16.10 at Officeworks, can be had for $13.40 for 750ml at Woolworths or $18.40 for 1L at Bunnings.

Have used this to good effect on older baths and bathrooms for removing rust, grime, etc. and cleaning up around taps. Good for a bunch of other stuff too one would assume.

Blind mullets or brown trout giving you problems sticking around?

    • I have these scaly deposits in the bowl as the enamel is long gone
I can flick them off with a knife but any ideas if this would work, and how one would apply?

      • Sorry this won't help. If the enamel gone I would think it past redemption a new loo would be in order.

Anyone know what’s in it? More than likely just a simple acid that’s available in a different aisle of bunnings for a fraction of the price.

Edit: probably sulfamic acid. You could just use hydrochloric acid for most purposes.

          Nope.
You want something that breaks down protein and also some bleach

It gets taken down for a minute every day by the elders of the internet in remembrance of the hawk.

    • You are correct loopy. Well, at least it was sulfamic acid (and citric acid). That might explain why it doesn't work as good as it used to…

Plenty of things. They don't stock every model of everything, so if your research says you want XYZ model printer there's a decent chance OW won't even stock it. And even if they offer it they might just be drop shipping it from China. I'm still waiting for a home photo printer I ordered from OW like a month ago. Plenty of places in my city are selling it for $200 less and they have them in stock, but I thought hey OW is convenient, no one else offers same day delivery. Meanwhile where is my printer, stuck in some warehouse in China? And where is my money, stuck in an OW bank account.

      • Can you not cancel it?

        • +2

I feel like I’ve cone this far. Then again I really want to print. My compatible inks from America have arrived weeks ago. I probably should cancel it and save myself $200, get it sooner.

Yes I know that’s not CLR

        • I'm a 50 year old kid (who's never seen the infomercial, but I tracked it down) :)

    • Any acid based cleaner would do it, I used to make my own but now too lazy just use easy off bam.

      • I found CLR works a lot better than Easy off bam, especially if it hadn't been cleaned for a while.

    • I don't use it in shower booths because it can kill the waterproofing after prolonged use. I use Fairy dish washing liquid. Does an awesome job without being acidic or health hazard.

I have treated bore water and have much more success removing calcium and lime from my bathroom screens and tap fittings with https://www.bunnings.com.au/glitz-2l-calcium-scale-and-rust-… (plus it's a lot cheaper than CLR).

  • 46 votes and probably not available anywhere.

  • I find it great for descaling the Nespresso machine, just got to make sure to rinse well after

    • +1

May not be food safe. Cheaper and safer to use vinegar or a mix of citric acid and cream of tartar (tartaric acid) from the baking aisle in supermarkets. I think from memory they were the ingredients from actual coffee descaler.

      • +1

Citric acid is all you need. 1 tablespoon dissolved in 1 litre of water

      Classic.

  • Can I use this to remove water spots on car windows?

    • Yes, it works for that. Careful not to let any drip onto the paintwork or wash off immediately.

  • CLR Calcium Lime Rust Remover and Officeworks seems like an odd combination to me but upon clicking the click I saw the suggestions tab of household items such as milk and coffee?? Is OfficeWorks trying to became BigW or something?

    • Office supplies for catering - coffee, biscuits, lollies, etc. etc. I get my descaler there. But yeah, CLR is a little different.

  • Could this get rust stains out of clothes?

  • folks aldi sell a similar product 1 litre $5.99 I think when on special
    http://offers.kd2.org/en/au/aldi/pbhll/

    • Seems to be a long wait until they have it available again. I assumed it was a regularly stocked item. I was wrong about this and also Vanilla essence, which only gets sold as a special.
