Does anyone here know how these compare to parlux hairdryers? Most high end salons I’ve been to use them, and I’ve seen a few people say they preferred them to dyson . I’m still obsessed with my parlux, takes me 10 minutes to dry my super thick long curly hair (compared to like 30 with my old cheap dryer and it was a frizzy mess still) and it’s so straight I don’t need to use a hair straightener.

I just can’t see how this could be worth $150 more (even on sale) when parlux are fantastic and around the $200 mark :/ not to mention it’s constsntly the #1 suggestion when people on a beauty Facebook page I’m on have asked about hair dryers…

  • Order confirmation received 3:13pm EST - just received a cancellation email

  • It’s back in stock!

  • Ordered one, see how it goes

  • Bought one, finger crossed.

  • Bought 30 mins ago. Still have stock

  • Now the price back to $499

  • They cancelled my order (issue with payment) so I made a new order using PayPal… I was one of the first to make an order so I don’t know whether they are just screwing customers over by cancelling them

  • Bastards, added to cart and showed up back at $499

  • It's insane if they cancel orders. They set the sale price. It would probably still be a profit margin given the markup on dyson products. I was considering buying it as a gift. Oh well.

    • Likely an error, they have 30% off accessories but it also seemed to include the hair dryer.

    • -1

'It would probably still be a profit margin'… Not sure if you're serious, but I think there's still plenty of meat on the bone at 350 for a hair dryer.

      • +1

That was my point. They would still make profit at the sale price.

  • Link has been removed altogether. Product can no longer be found on the website.

  • seems like they are cancelling?

  • Wrong pricing

  • So does this dry hair in like a fraction of time or what?

  • my order was also cancelled

  • O no hopefully mine doesn't get cancelled. Seems like they are cancelling all the CC orders first then paypal perhaps later (Perhaps the person who handles those isn't in today)

  • My order went though with American Express at 2.30 and I got an email confirmation. I haven’t seen a cancellation yet.

I personally think this price is really too expensive.
In comparison, the price of the tool is much more reasonable.
    https://www.bunnings.com.au/dewalt-18v-li-ion-2-speed-hammer…
It is also a DC brushless motor,And the power is bigger than it.
And have lithium batteries and chargers.

Also the manufacturing cost of mechanical components is much more than the manufacturing cost of heating wires.

  • They canceled my order the second time. This is false advertising. Did anyone get a screen shot of the offer - if so please upload here. It will be useful for the ombudsman

  • +1

Ombudsman. Please over a hair dryer lol.

    • It's not an ordinary hair dryer

  • Bought it at 3.30pm via paypal/amex.
Instantly received 1 email from paypal saying that they have submitted the payment to Dyson, 1 email from Dyson for the confirmation of my order (with the price and all), 1 email from amex because i setup a notification for all transaction over 100.
So looks like the order and payment did go through fine.

Then at 5.30pm, Dyson sent another email saying my order couldn't be completed because there seems to issue with my payment, which is b.s. As I received emails from both paypal and amex confirming the payment as mentioned above.

Interestingly though in the same order, I also put v8 accessories but since it's in the same order, i assume it is also cancelled..

Not sure if this is what others experience as well.
Not sure what to do in this case either..

  • Dyson are bloody hopeless. Requested a tax invoice since they never sent me one when I bought a supersonic off their own website and still haven't received it.

  • Has anyone who paid via PayPal had theirs cancelled yet? I received confirmation of my order at 3:32pm yesterday and still haven't received a cancellation notice yet. I paid via PayPal.

    • +1

      Yes. See 2 posts above

  • Paid AmEx, no cancel yet.

  • Paid paypal, no cancel yet

  • is this a pricing error?? no cancellation as yet… paid via CC

  • Ordered and order confirmed 20 hours ago. No cancellation email yet.
Maybe no one is working today, wait and see on Tuesday.

  • 7000 clicks. Prob atleast 1000 orders, take them a while to get through them all

    • 1000 orders,,, nah,, 1000/7000 clicks are mine :)

  • +1

I had cancellation email, emailed and asked why, they rang back and said they are happy to honour it for a reasonable period of time. I paid over the phone and it went through.

    • I wonder what the reasonable period is. Will try the same, thanks for the update

  • Could it be that the AUD349.30 price is for professionals ? If so, I'll get the guy that cuts my hair to order it

  • Not planning to buy but, could a knowledgeable person explain WHY a hair dryer for home use is soooo expensive?
    Please?

I am honestly curious to know and learn why?

    Thanks

    • Paying for research, development and design.

Dyson is officially calling it the Dyson Supersonic hair dryer. It has apparently taken 4 years to develop, involved the creation of over 600 prototypes, and cost $71 million. They’ve also tested it on over 1,000 miles of hair. With that in mind, nobody should be surprised to see the price set at $499.

    • Thank you guys.

      But I meant to ask:
What is in this FOR ME?
How will I (or a user in general) benefit of such an expensive hair dryer?

I do own a Dyson vacuum cleaner so I can "justify" the price tag as "extra suction, no dust bag, accessories", etc, etc

So, what is it for a hair dryer?
Isn't just hot air being blown?

      • I'm happy with Dyson handdticks, fan + purifier is ok, I thought the same thing about hairdryer as well. Didn't plan to buy but since it's discounted and comes with extra attachments I just bought one, impulsive..

  • Anyone got shipping notification yet?

    • not sure what is going on.. no cancellation or anything about delivery..

      • Got my dispatch notification…

  • +2

    Order dispatched

    :)

  • +1

    Order despatched #2

    • Huh…which one is right despatched or dispatched?

      • +1

In Australia - dispatched. Despatched is more commonly used in the UK. Both are correct just different spelling.

  • Wow they honoured it, Kudos to Dyson. Supersonic Professional + Stand (when it was 30% off) shipped this evening.

  • Just got my shipping confirmation from Dyson that the dryer has been sent for the original price of $349.30. I ordered at 2.30pm so maybe they cut the deal off after that. Wifey will be happy.

  • Ordered on Saturday using PayPal, confirmation email received at 3:30PM. Second email received just 10 minutes ago with shipping confirmation and tracking details.

    • I ordered around 5pm using Paypal and just got shipment confirmation. Maybe the early cancellations resulted in enough "feedback" that they decided to ship?

    • Tracking is invalid but I think cos it's not added to the system yet.

      • Shipped started working this morning.

  • got a confirmation as well!

  • Order despatched !!

  • Same here!

  • Wow mine was despatched! Did not expect that at all. Ordered Sunday 12:30 WST through PayPal

  • The picture that comes up in the emails is not the one for the professional version. Wonder which one will turn up? Hope it's the professional as it sounds the upgrade is worthwhile. Although some others have a nice carry case.

    • Does yours say “Dyson Supersonic™ Professional Edition”?

      • Yep the words do, but I think the picture is of the normal one (purple) plus the bonus silver bag they are currently including (which is junky I think)

        • Actually same here but it lists both pro and non-pro but it has a price and unit count against the pro, and not the standard.

  • Order dispatched email just arrived an hour ago for me as well :D

  • I bought 2. They are sending only 1.
The other one says promo ended.

  • Looks like they couldn’t be bothered stopping all orders. Hope OP was one of the lucky ones

  • I have not received mine yet but it says the warranty is automatically activated??

    • Don't think anyone has received yet. Same email for me about warranty. Just says Dyson supersonic so still not sure if they've sent the professional.

  • Does anyone have some idea how long the delivery take with Dyson? Probably longer now with our AusPost.

  • I've got the same warranty activation email, but why it shows 1 year warranty only instead of 2 years as per their website???

  • I contacted by phone and was advised they had had so many sales they had run out of stock. They also have different colours at different wait times. There's one colour coming in at the end of this week and another colour coming next week. Depending on what colour you ordered you might be waiting till tomorrow or into next week for your order to ship.

    • +2

I thought the Supersonic Pro only came in one colour?

  • I just got off the phone from a Dyson team leader - the unit takes 5-7 business days for delivery.

As soon as the unit leaves the warehouse, if you purchased directly from Dyson, the warranty is automatically activated.

Also they confirmed the Professional has a ONE year warranty. I'm a bit annoyed since its technically the same unit and I lost 1 week worth of warranty due to the automatic activation. At least my Amex card doubled the warranty.

  • Interesting. The Dyson Supersonic Pro page states "Every hair dryer is guaranteed for 2 years, on both parts and labour". I got my warranty activation email yesterday and it says "Machine:DYSON SUPERSONIC". Am I getting the Pro version? I also just received an email from Auspost saying that my Dyson is due to arrive tomorrow. Lastly, the most concerning thing is that the warranty email shows an old residential address. This is the address I had when I registered an old Dyson vacuum unit back in the day. I used my updated and current address when I created my Dyson login account on the day of making this purchase. This same address is what's specified in the Auspost Tracking page, which I don't trust. I had "redirected" a delivery this week, the specified address said X, but it got delivered to Y. Time to give them a call.

UPDATE: Spoke to Dyson and clarified some details.

    1. Confirmed, order is going to my new address, even when I only registered an account over the weekend. So they must have gotten my old address when I registered an older Dyson vacuum cleaner, over 5 years ago….

    2. Confirmed, that despite the confusing emails and warranty email notifications that I am in fact getting a Supersonic Professional, NOT the standard

    3. Warranty IS 2 years. NOT 1 year which the warranty email states. Dyson advised me over the phone that previously, they only offered 1 year for these devices, they have recently changed it to TWO YEARS.

    Update:

Another "Your Dyson guarantee is now active" email just came in.

    Date of purchase:
    13/06/2018
    Warranty valid until:
    13/06/2020

    • Good to know, I didn’t think they could just swap out the product invoiced with another different item. Thanks for the update.

  • I will send another email to Dyson and get that warranty expiry fixed.

  • +3
    • Professional?

    • Did you through the cancellation fiasco?

  • Thanks heaps for verifying with Dyson!

  • Received, but why the invoice on their website does not have ABN? I can’t use it for GST refund.

    • +1

I had this problem too. I tried to request a tax invoice over voice chat the night before I flew out and I got nothing. I called up the day of the flight and after being on hold for 1hr I requested the tax invoice again and they said sure… in 24 hours.
Almost two weeks later I still haven't received anything.
Hopeless. Apparently tax law says they can take up to 30 days.

      • Thanks for sharing. This is so annoying though.

    Arrived today.

Wife loves it, looks like I’ll get one away tonight
